In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Beware shipping DHL... last week we shipped out a 3 ft savannah monitor via DHL. well they lost him. 5 days later and countless phone inquiries they have yet to locate the fore mentioned lizard and are making little effort to locate him. we have called several times a day over the past few days and expressed the importantance of locating and warming this lizard they are showing little interest in locating him.

DHL shipped $1200 in turtles from Clive Longden in Florida to me in Diego and left them on the front steps in the sun, heat etc. The package even read shade, keep cool yadda, yadda, yadda. The office that took the package and sent it even realized that the box was to remain there for pick-up. The delivery driver didnt read "good english" I was told.

Every turtle died in that shipment, albino red ears, diamond backs, cb black knobs and o' so many others. I was told on the phone how sorry and it was obviously their fault.

They did NOTHING about it. In the end the man yelled back at me, after an hour of debating, "If the plane goes down and NOTHING survives, we do not guarantee live animals."

I had to pay for those turtles. Clive gave me a break on how fast I had to pay him back but it was DHL's fault and yet mine. That is one company I will not do business with.

That isn't exactly true, John. Live animals fall under DHL's Restricted Commodities, and lizards are acceptable...though I'm not sure if their animal permit is required.

Clayton, was the savannah shipped overnight? And you're seriously saying that with the tracking number they are unable to locate it...and don't seem to be making any effort to do so? (this is actually no surprise to me, given my past experiences with them)

DHL has always been a crappy shipper -- thats not news.

From what I understand since their corporate meltdown they aren't even offering priority service anymore -- but that's just what I've heard. :shrug01:

Hope they find the lizard in time.

From what I understand, DHL will no longer do any domestic shipments after the first of the year. Only International shipments.

yes, he was shipped overnight "express" and it is in dhl's small animals waiver. It just doesent include snakes. it includes non poisoness lizzards as it was explained to me. Overnight express has just turned into 6 days. Dhl is advertising that they are going strictly international with all their shipments, wonder how long it will take to get a packaage to london or germany. when they can't handle 5 state borders.

Was it a question of funds

or did you not have an account with FeDex or UPS to make your life easier. DHL is and has always been a poor carrier for living material. I would never even use them for fruitflies ! The cost of using a more reliable carrier is certainly worth the expense of getting the animals alive and in a timely fashion then having to go through the nightmare that you are currently experiencing... If this was done because DHL was cheaper, then its a terrible lesson on you and the poor reptile that deserved a little more consideration. In either case, your actions were a poor choice if the carrier was yours to choose. If not, then the liability rests on the shipper.

DHL

I've never had issues with DHL, they seem a little less expensive than the others, but I did go there last week to ship and they are not accepting any Domestic shipping only International as they are closing locations.
So looks like no one has to worry about DHL anymore.

DHL is done for good in the US. Domestic or international. They got a contract with a competitor carrier to ship their international packages for them.

Also it is ALWAYS recommended to ship live animals with a signature required. That way the driver wont leave the package outside the door without ringing/knocking the door.

Sorry Mr. Velardi but in my experience none of the carriers, USPS excepted, observes the "signature required" even 10% of the time.
Our UPS guy will generally knock on the door because we have become friends and he is curious what I am getting this time, but I have NEVER had to sign for anything with Fed Ex or DHL before I stopped dealing with people who insisted on DHL to ship to me.

My past experience with DHL (not shipping animals, but equipment)... We had to stop using them because they lost or damaged too many packages, and being late was just expected of them. And on top of that they had no interest in making things right with any sort of customer service.

Interesting. It has been a few years since I looked but they used to have an overall prohibition on all live animals. That was the reason i stopped using Airborne once DHL bought them

I used to use Airborne, too, from time to time. I really can't say WHEN live animals became a restricted commodity (kinda weird referring to them as commodities, it just doesn't feel right), but they've been on that list for a couple years now. When I initially received that document from DHL, it wasn't even accessible on the website...

well I am not surpised abotu dhl the local trucks are looknig like they been though a paint ball /getto area more and more. I feel sad about the lost of animals. I am currently required to sign for all packages I get from the ups guy cause they left 2 packages ( in the last year ) on the door anever knocked or anything and bother were stolen. the one I was leaving and didn'tt realize the package would of gotten to me in almost overnight shipping ( it came a monday was told not be delievered before a tuesday )
I had passed the truck on the way out to the store. the other was some computer part it had sat outside for an hour or better ( we were home but never knew it )we hear a bunch of kids in the yard the next thing we know they all running off (with the package ) so ups now requires me to sign for anything/everything I rget sent here. which I don't mind as this way I can inpect it and know i got it .. Were I live it gettingto the point if it not nailed or chained down they kids will try to steal it. I thinking of a paintball gun by summer end. cause you know as soone as I pop a kid in te back /butt theyparent wil lcome running wanting to sue me and i know who to yell at and the kid will get in trouble specially when I make it clear they were in the yars stealling and that is the only time the gun used.. plus it non leathel force :shootfoot

Part of the reason that some have had problems and others have not is that each local depot is an individual franchise. There is very little corporate management that takes place which is why I believe there has been so many problems. I too have had very few problems with DHL.

Part of the problem is that while you may have a well run depot in your area the sending or receiving depot may not be run well at all which means that in many cases the carriers don't have anyone holding them responsible.

As far as them stopping business in the US, my local depot is finished as of the 10th of December.

Careful with the paintball idea, in some places that could lead to a charge of assault. You can get an assault charge for almost any type of direct or indirect physical contact, even when no injury occurs. Topless dancers get charged with assault all the time in stings when they do a lap dance.

Now other places will allow lethal force if the person was in unauthorized possession of your personal property at the time you used force. Or they have castle laws that let you defend your home or business from an intruder with lethal force.

Different places, different rules. The penalty for judging it wrong can be harsh. In fact it is not unheard of to be sued by the person who was stealing in the first place if you use any force against them.

Do you have a small animal waiver?
Who are you contacting when you make your inquiries?
Would you mind posting the tracking number?
