Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Big Apple Herps - sent wrong snake?

But she didn't receive a grey Miami like is in the video. I also don't see how an orange background snake makes a "better coloration" if a Miami. I am super confused. If you want an orange background, you would be very unlikely to seek out a Miami. Just because they CAN have a more typical color does not change that they are known and valued as grey. If it didn't matter, she could have bought a Carolina, Alabama, or Okeetee. She chose Miami for a reason, the snake she got does NOT look like the one in the video.

You might think a big standard orange colored red rat is better. That's clearly not what the OP was looking for when she specifically ordered a Miami phased, linebred animal with a grey background.
Orange background? One of our screens needs adjusting, looks bronze/copper to me. Don't be so confused about color, some people prefer other hues over others.

I said orange as a general nod toward the brownish and orangeish tones most corns have. Yeah, it looks more copper in her photo. So, it's still not a Miami.

My confusion isn't that you like a different color. It's that you don't seem to understand that Miamis are valued for being grey. A more typical colored corn- a classic or Carolina- is not what someone is going to expect upon opening the box when they order a Miami.

On a side note, what's with that butterfly saddle? The pattern on the op's snake looks on point. Is an erratic saddle desirable in this species?

Aberrant patterning like that is actually very common. Extreme aberrancies are actually pretty popular; people tend to like zigzag and aztec patterned corn snakes.

I spoke on the phone with Gina in customer service twice and placed the order directly with her after she confirmed that the snake in the video was the actual snake for sale. The snake is very pretty and extremely sweet to handle so I am keeping it. I don't believe it's the Miami because of coloring (could have been very poor lighting...though he described it as I saw it) and the ventral markings are completely different.. There is some question on CS.com forum as to whether or not it's even a female. Big Apple insists it is the exact snake from the video. I don't know... This is my second snake. My first was purchased from Don at SMR, from his surplus list, and she was exactly as pictured.

In bold (above) is the actual crux of the matter.
If the snake, that you posted photos of, is the one you received from Big Apple, it is not the same snake that is in the video. No doubt/question about it.
It is not even Miami Phase.
It would mean that this was Big Apple's error and they should have taken responsibility.

Also, if that is the snake you received from BA, and BA is stating that you received the exact snake that is in the video, they are certainly not good at recognizing different snakes, etc.

Nice to hear you are keeping the snake.
It doesn't right the wrong, but the corn is nice looking, now has a home, and can still make a great pet.

....

I'm not breeding. My first snake is a June 2015 Extreme Okeetee female with some zig zag saddles from Don's surplus list at SNR. I saw the video of the Miami while surfing around and really liked her looks. That she was an adult was a bonus. The snake I got is very pretty in a different way from the Miami and incredibly sweet natured. I wouldn't want to risk a replacement and hate the thought of making her ship again. What I won't do is buy from Big Apple again, which is a shame because their f/t larger mice are an excellent price and I wanted hides from them. This adult has cardboard boxes right now because part of a coil was hanging out of the hides I had for her.

Glad you are taking this well !!

None the less, It is unethical of a business (of such caliber) to have shipped the wrong snake. Having to pay for shipping, is a different story
However, having you're snake probed would be ideal. What would you do, if it's a male ?

They offered to replace the snake but told me in an email that this one was the only adult they had at all because corns are out of season right now. I'd have to pay to ship because they were accommodating my displeasure over the appearance of the snake in person, as opposed to how it looked on YouTube. I told them I was keeping it and asked about feeding. I was told 1 adult mouse each week. I am shocked that such a large company has such poor service. I can't even fathom the misinformation they have given me. If it's a male, I'll change its name from Gypsy to Meatloaf (from a joke on CornSnakes.com). Other than that, I don't need to treat a male any differently than a female, do I? It's a very nice pet.

The op mentioned not breeding, so sex may no longer be an issue.:shrug01: Either way, congrats on the snake and Kudos to you for not titling this thread Bad Guy, which you could've. A questionable deal for sure, but not much more than that.

At first, maybe. Their unwillingness to admit to their mistake, and their expectation that the buyer should have to pay anything to remedy their mistake, is all that's really needed for this thread to have been justifiably labeled "Bad Guy."

OP paid for A; seller wants to hold OP financially accountable for their refusal to admit to sending B. That's simply not how anyone I'd see as a Good Guy would handle such a situation. Also, whether or not the OP intends to breed, the snake ending up as a male would just be the wrong icing on the already misrepresented cake.

Since the OP doesn't seem interested in pushing the issue further, at this point, it is what it is; but let's not pretend Big Apple didn't make a conscious choice to screw the pooch in the handling of an extremely righteous gripe that could have been easily fixed without requiring the OP to lose money on the deal.

Make no mistake, Big Apple definitely dropped the ball on this one, however after being here a few months and seeing some really rotten transactions take place, this one doesn't seem so bad IMO. BA got spanked today; especially by the corn snake crowd..so It's not like they walked away from this unscathed. If the snake was intended for breeding then yeah, this could've turned into a big mess. Anyway, looks like the snake isn't for breeding and the op seems happy with it, so eh.

I think the baseline should be a good transaction. Bonuses for superior aspects beyond that. Demerits for experiences of lesser quality. Evaluating transactions relative to the worst experiences would diminish the gravity of plenty of instances that were plenty bad all on their own.

May not However, Point I was trying to make-

What if, the animal was a male. When the original order was calling for Female. Wrong snake, Paying to ship back and a male to Boot, would call for, a serious business prospect evaluation with a well deserve BG label.

Big Apple definitely dodged one.

999s- At the very least, you deserve a hefty store credit for the inconvenience. Heat pad, water bowl and maybe a hide box :D

Thanks.

Just for the record, I bought up the possibility that the animal was missexed based on some early photos by the OP on CornSnakes.com. When later pics were taken specifically of the tail, then I withdrew my suspicion and admitted that had I "visually eyeball sexed" the snake myself, then I would have called it a female. Probing could prove otherwise, as I have seen some real surprises over the years, but I believe that most people via a visual inspection would also label that animal as a female.

It shouldn't matter if it was intended for breeding purposes or not. They screwed up and then expected the buyer to take some responsibility for their screw up...That equals Bad Guy.

Send me the wrong animal then expect me to pay shipping it back? Yeah expect a bad guy icon.

:iagree: You cannot expect the buyer to pay anything else out of pocket when YOU screwed up in the first place. It is the seller's responsibility to correct the issue.

Had the OP just had a change of heart and said she didn't want the animal any longer, (due to changing her mind, and not due to wrong animal being sent) then that would be appropriate for the buyer to pay return shipping. But this was not the case. So for that reason, if it were me, I would have labeled this as a Bad Guy thread.
