In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bob Clark (Industry and community irresponsibility?) INQUIRY

Tim,

Who were the couple that declined to appear in Letterman's show? Was it this same show where Bob was in?

Thanks,

A.D.

Not sure if it was the same episode or not. This was about 6 months ago and these people do not want to be named here.

I don't guess it matters any longer....If your interested in checking my ID give me a call.

You have caught our great scandal to over power the fauna....Boy we really proved something...We are really bad people out to rule the world.

You can call us all the names you want, you can find things to discredit us.

You can take down this thread for all I care....

Hey those links are all over the internet and have nothing to do with us.
This thread is NOT about you. Further attempts to make it so will result in additional warning points.

IF you want to talk about yourself so badly, start a thread about you.

Tim,

Although I personally believe it if you say so, you know...the rules are the rules, and if there are no names attached...

Best regards :)

While being presented as a "venomous snake expert" he and Jack Hanna have, in my opinion, helped to further the cause of those who feel that we, the public, have no business keeping venomous reptiles.

Although it looks as if my opinion will not be popular here, in general terms the "public" has zero business keeping venomous reptiles.

As long as he is not breaking any law why should a person not be allowed to own a venomous reptile? :shrug01:

yes it really is a good thing. Every new hobbyist that comes into our hobby is a good thing. Hopefully they go to a good store that will teach them some kind of proper husbandry, or maybe they will buy from a bad store and do some research online and either find that good store or make the appropriate changes themselves. Every new person that gets into our hobby, is one less person there is to oppose it. So yes--it is a good thing on so many levels. Most of us met some hard luck with our first reptiles, but it planted the seed and we grew from that point. I kept my first cornsnake on bed a corn and tried feeding it crickets at the advise of my pet store when I was 8. We did not have the internet back then, but I kept trying. I think pet stores --even bad ones--are far more informed then they were back then, and info online is readily available which was not back then so it is progress not perfection.

my fear is that since so many pet stores don't have employees who can properly care for the animals and so many people see snakes as taboo and something that is daring/risky, that you have tens of thousands of people who simply have snakes for the wrong reasons, ESPECIALLY if it's because they saw the show and said "i'm gonna get a snake".

sure there are more snake owners now than ever, but how many of those people don't understand how important temps and humidity are? what about the advantages of certain substrates, the dangers of others? what about all the things that CAN be learned online in a day or less BUT that knee-jerk "i want a snake, petco sells them, let's go" reaction.

this is one hobby where numbers mean nothing. 99 qualified, intelligent, passionate keepers can be upstaged by one person.

After watching Bob and Jacks appearance on Letterman with the retics - I didn't even want to bother this round. But it was pretty much par for the course.

What needs to be remembered is that this is TV and for entertainment purposes - it's not like it was a documentary on the discovery channel. The over the top BS is performance to get the audience into it. Whether its Jack or Steve Irwin or whomever - the over the top playing on their fears gets the audience engaged - yeah we think it's all lunacy but that's their job - Bob's as the "Reptile Professional" - should have known to represent better. JMO.

why is that your opinion?

be careful with your answer. hypocrisy is one click away ;)

Wes, it's been about her for the last 10 or so posts????

I did not say they should be "banned". But, any potentially lethal animal should be somehow regulated. Not so much for the sake of the owner, but for the people around them who could get hurt in the event they do something irresponsible or stupid. We've all heard of "that guy" keeping a cobra in a fish tank with rocks holding down the screen top....

Richard,

I don't see that necessarily as a bad thing. No one is born knowing and although I don't condone experimenting with snakes I don't feel a person should go through an herp-keeper course to get started. I'm pretty sure we all made mistakes along the way and are still learning. My first snake was a WC colubrid that I caught myself 44 years ago. Oddly enough it lived a long life in captivity (pretty hardy species of Liophis). From then on I was pretty much a self-taught individual reading whatever literature I could find. Today it's far easier for a youngster to start and get a care sheet even from a pet store, not to mention the internet.

Just to get back on topic. So is it OK to post as Roberts instead of Robertson? Because if it is I can see someone posting as Dave Law pretty soon...

It took that long to reach a point that I felt it needed to be addressed.

Even though I may show as being signed in, I am often not even home.

I do not want in on this. But when was the last time you heard of a third party bite. Meaning a person that was not working with the animal................................................. Or a snake getting loose and biting someone?

No, it isn't.

Pamela, would you care to clarify your name?
On your own website it plainly states your last name is Robertson.

It was mentioned on another thread when someone missed where you stuck your name. On that thread you plainly stated that the name under your screen name was your name. You are fully aware of the requirement.

Well, last year there was this plane.....

you see, that's hypocritical. you COULD get online and look up the directions for a pipe bomb, essentially endangering everyone around you, right?

you see how ridiculous it is?

most people are all for REGULATION, but the reality is that most places find it easier to ban.

like in alabama, it's perfectly legal to sell an 8 year old a 6' eastern diamondback.

it's illegal for anyone to own a western diamondback though.

regulation would mean a compromise and a safer environment. timbers kill more people in the US each year than do any other snake, yet they're totally legal here, even though the local hospital's antivenom may not work so great depending on various factors.

but you said that the public had no right to keep them, period. that is simply a BAN.

Some may not think that what those two did, acting like, on national TV is that big of a deal, but all it takes is one person to make a mistake because they saw that clip and thought owning a hot would be cool. A small reminder of what can happen when one teen decides that very thing (a hot is cool) without taking proper precautions and is irresponsible:

http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76240

Hots are not a creature to be taken lightly in any manner, to shrug a shoulder and say "no big deal" because we know that Bob had things in control and was pandering to the entertainment of fears. It is obvious they were planning to have things get out of control because the same mistakes were made twice in a row with the same snake. Sure it was all for the ratings.

There is no excuse to look like a fool on purpose when so many respectively look up to you. Do I think they are bad people, not really, but stupidity is not good either.

Have you nothing better to do than preoccupy yourself with my post?

um. correct me if im wrong.. but isnt that the whole point of having threads in here in the first place? Start a thread.. expect to get replies.

My only pet peeve with the 2 clips that were posted was the fact that more caution shoulve been used when handling the snake. When it comes to handling such dangerous snakes, especially in TV, the general public does not know whether it's a venomoid or not. The handler (bob) shouldve been more cautious in regards to handling that cobra... why? There are so many people out there, especially young adults, who come into the hobby everyday, and the last thing we need is another one of those idiots who think they're "invincible" to see a stunt such as the one on Late Night... especially on Late Night, seeing the cobra coming in close contact with Bob's hand was no bueno. Anyway.. all it takes is one moron to get the wrong message, and then what? they're gonna do what bob did, free handle a hot so carelessly, and put themselves and others in grave danger.....and thats when the problems for the truely responsible keepers start coming in to play.
