Does everyone remember KERRY BRAGG?
Does everyone remember Kerry Bragg - I know I do. I would love to share with you all what he has to say about fauna and the people on the BOI. I think you might find this as funny as I did.

Thanks to Ron for settling the canebrake/timber question. Beth, are there any pictures of the large easterns that you could post? I think all of us would like to see them, especially me.

I have never seen a rattler in the wild. I hope I do this year though.

Sorry guys, that was way off subject. I think Ron cleared everything up, as far as the canes and timbers go. I never thought that subspecies could differ so much.

I really never use fauna, except for the cre thing that once. Nobody there gives anyone the benifit of the doubt. ( bunch of zealots) I'm sorry that I even tryed to go to the boi, and post. Nothing good at all has came out of that thread. I got ripped, just for knowing a person (that I didn't know anybody had a problem with), I was called a liar, and a thief, and all of personal information was posted there (phone#, address, my wifes name) without my permission, and you and your husband were some of the main instigators. If that happned to you, how would you feel? I was totally embarrassed, slandred, and my character was defimated. I am a forgiving person though, so I hold no grudges, but I will NEVER give fauna another second of my time!

We have two Eastern Diamondbacks over 6.5 ft in lenght.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As of this time we have two male Eastern Diamondbacks that are over 6 1/2 ft in lenght that will be going to SC in April to a good friend. We currently house 15 eastern diamondbacks along with canebrakes, gaboons and other. A timber rattlesnake - is Crotalus horridus horridus (the northern species) and the canebrake is Crotalus horridus atricaudatus(the southern species which grows much larger) (It is a larger race than the horridus horridus.) By the way - Nice to see you on here Kerry. Did you switch from Fauna?

There are several things thatI believe make the difference in the 2 subspecies.
#1- Canebrakes are larger than timbers. Average timbers are 3 ft in length.
It is not uncommon to find canebrakes over 4 feet and I have had several
that were pushing the 5-6 ft mark.
#2- Canebrakes have the stripe in the middle of the back that is missing in true timber rattlesnakes.
#3- Venom. Canebrakes have a mixture of both hemo and neuro toxins in their venom, and young canebrakes also have cardiotoxins. The neurotoxins have not been the case with the timber rattlesnakes.
#4- timbers breed every other year, while canebrakes will breed every year.
As for the cross breeding... I have seen timber x diamondback crosses and they look nothing like a canebrake. This is not a cross that is likely enough to happen in nature. Also there are canebrakes located in areas that timbers do not exist, so I could in no way except that theory, though this is the first time I have heard it.

someone told me that canebreaks were just timber rattlers that had cross bred with easterns or something.

According to research I've done, canebreaks and timbers are the same species (although I think they may have slight color or pattern variations that differentiate them, I'm not sure).

I have never seen an eastern that big, but most of my books say they can get up to 8 feet. The Jacksonville zoo has a specimen that's somewhere in the 6 foot range if I'm not mistaken. Disapointing enough. I've never seen a rattler around here. I heard a many stories of them around here. Supposedly not far from here canebreaks and timbers ranges overlap. I've even heard some people say they're the same snake. I don't have enough experiance with any rattlesnake to be making that accessment. What are your thoughts JBrent? I know this isn't about easterns, but I figured you may know.

Largest rattlesnake you've seen
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have not been able to find any records on any Eastern Diamondbacks in excess of 5 feet long. I personally have seen one that was killed near Waverly, TN that was close to 8 feet long (this was about 13 years ago). When I saw it, it was laid across the hood of a full-size pickup. Its head was hanging down by one tire, the tail was hanging by the other. Has anyone seen or heard of this snake or any of similar size?

BY THE WAY - Does anyone know if Faunaclassifieds and herptrader.com is owned by the same person? The reason I ask this is because it looks similiar with same features.
And Kerry is a SUPER MODERATOR> lol - he does not even know what he is talking about on there. It is quite the funny to read his posts to all types of snake questions - and if memory serves me correctly he deals only in geckos. But here he gives advice on Venomous. You guys have to check that out!
QOUTE From Kerry BRAGG - I really never use fauna, except for the cre thing that once. Nobody there gives anyone the benifit of the doubt. ( bunch of zealots)
>>>>> We are a bunch of zealots! Here is the definition of Zealot - zeal·ot ( P ) Pronunciation Key (zlt)
n. One who is zealous, especially excessively so.
A fanatically committed person.
Zealot A member of a Jewish movement of the first century A.D. that fought against Roman rule in Palestine as incompatible with strict monotheism. I dont think anyone on here fits that definition.......
QOUTE - KERRY BRAGG - I'm sorry that I even tryed to go to the boi, and post. - Has anyone noticed if Kerry Bragg has been logged in and reading this thread. Maybe we should watch if he does. I personally dont think myself nor my husband were the main instigaytors. But - YOUR story had holes and was FISHY. And it STILL IS. That is my personal opinion in which I am entitled to.
If you were a forgiving person then YOU would have never typed that message above in my opinion. KERRY you are still HOLDING A GRUDGE! I simply stated and I qoute - By the way - Nice to see you on here Kerry. Did you switch from Fauna? There was nothing in that statement that said anything remotely rude.
Personally I think the whole thing funny. But please I would love to know if herptrader and faunaclassifieds are related in any way. Thanks Beth
