Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The snakes do tunnel in the shavings and they are are very happy like that. Snakes like mountain kings live in crevices and tunnel under granite until the spring when they come to the surface. When it warms up on June they go back under to avoid the heat.

By subecting a snake with all that goes on with shipping through any carrier ie.. being tossed, dropped, spun and vibrated is cruel. We need to stop comparing snakes to mammals.

I wanted to address the shavings in the cup shipping method.

Filling a deli cup with typical shavings would NOT be a bad way to ship if they were not firmly packed. When I was writing last night I for some reason thought "sani-chips" when ranier wrote shavings. Sani-chips are small square pieces of wood, much like scrabble tiles in thier stacking nature, that do not compress well at all. If they had been used then it would be bad. There would be no give in the bedding and there would be little oxygen available for the snake. However, pine shavings, by their very nature, are curled. There would be plenty of cushion, done properly and no shortage of oxygen.

My mistake, I read shavings and thought sani-chips.

That does not make a bit of difference as far as your using USPS goes though.

My only concern with pine shavings in a closed deli-cup would be the resin and other odorous compounds that might be too concentrated. Certain pine shavings can release very strong odors (I'm not speaking about cedar of course, which is a huge no no!)

I agree as well.

I also think that ranier is experianced enough to use well dried shavings. I know I always have several bags on hand and if I open one that smells real piney I move to another and leave the pungent one open to dry out. I suspect we would be ok giving him credit enough to know that.

I do NOT know ranier personally but I do know him from reading a lot of his posts on fieldherpers and while not always the most "gentlemanly" of guys in general I have not heard anything bad about his snakes. I've seen pics of many of his animals and all looked nice.

Whatever excuse you want to hide behind so you can continue to avoid answering the questions. I guess you need more time to think of a good answer. It's odd how defensive and evasive one gets when caught.

against me because of this thread. I suppose that is the risk you run when you expose someone, because this was months ago and he is still going on about it. This thread speaks for itself, so now he is posting elsewhere

I have not contacted him about what happened since this thread ceased activity, but I got an email from him a few days ago. The email reply I sent him was nothing but courteous, so I have no idea where this new venom is coming from. I have no idea what the FOS is referring to, because there is nothing in the statement that I made below that was untrue.

from unwarranted, personal attacks that Rainer has made to fog the issue. The pics in the link you posted are NOT pics of the package that you sent to me. The thread contains all of the details and all of the facts from my end of the deal. I described the small VCR sized box that had a deli cup crammed inside of it inside of a standard USPS airmail envelope. They can read the link for themselves - nowhere did I misrepresent anything.

*note: I have had no problems with anyone else that I have purchased from and the only time I have posted on the BOI, besides that time and this time, was for "good guy" posts. I had no intention on bringing up the situation again, because I don't want to rub someone's face in their past mistakes. I have been nothing but civil to Rainer, so I don't know why he insists on dragging his own name through the mud again just to dig at me???? But if I don't say something, someone may take it to mean that he is right about being the victim here (maybe he was with Dan, I don't know, but not in the situation when he shipped me a snake.)
