In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My full name is Joshua Costa. Here is Brock's ad for the 3 Bearded Dragons + Cage that I recently purchased from him.

Below is Brock Shue's original ad

"I got 3 bearded dragons 2 females 1 male. I am selling them with there 75 gallon aquarium all very beautiful and healthy. 1 female has a niped tail from when she was younger but very healthy and active. Prefer pick up or will meet you for some gas money. 350$ for all three and cage, lid, lights and all. Will post pics amongst request."

Brock drove two hours to come drop them off at my house. When he arrived he was a cool guy, he helped me carry the aquarium into my house and we talked herps for about 15minutes. Before we carried the aquarium into my house he opened up the container in which the Bearded's were transported, in which I took a considerably quick glance at them. This is where I made my mistake of not properly double checking the animals.

Female #1 had a nipped tail ya, but you forgot to mention its broken left hind leg, and its 5 nipped toes! Female #2 had a nipped tail as well, along with a broken toe! The male had an extended bottom jaw that makes his mouth hang open at all times. He also has a kinked knob tail and a nipped (half) toe.
I really did not get a good look at them when he delivered them to me, I should have noticed.

I messaged him this morning over fauna and here's my conversation with Brock.

Hey man just wanted to say, you seem like a nice guy, and I appreciate you driving out yesterday. But after taking a much closer look at the beardies I gotta say I was really displeased at the way you COMPLETELY misrepresented your animals. Female #1 had a nipped tail ya, but you forgot to mention its broken left hind leg, and its 5 nipped toes! Female #2 had a nipped tail as well, along with a broken toe! The male had an extended bottom jaw that makes his mouth hang open at all times. He has a knob tail and a nipped (half) toe. You clearly misrepresented these animals and I obviously didn't take a close enough look at them when you delivered them. Anyhow my intentions are not to just completely bash you, but instead show you how the reptile business works. When you do good business and represent your animals fairly, you get good happy customers who will speak highly of you. When you misrepresent them like you have just done, you WILL get called out on it. And it WILL reflect negatively upon your name in this business. If you are truly interested in being part of the reptile trade boost your business ethics, because nobody likes working with people who hide the truth. Are you willing to make up for bad business and offer me anything in return? (maybe a partial refund?) If not I believe it's my duty to place a thread on the BOI concerning your misrepresentation for the good of the reptile community. Thanks, Josh.

Brock's response

"The male has always had that with him I just never knew what was wrong with his jaw. The female with the missing toes was from when she was a baby, and i showed you that before you gave me the money, as for the broken leg she was walking fine on all fours when we packed her up so idk if it was something in the drive I don't know. Also I did not notice the broken toe on female 2. As far as a refund goes. I believe you got a fair deal with the sand and lights and log and rocks. Especially after the difficult times. If you do want to give me a bad reputation you may. I in no means intended to misrepresent them they are beautiful animals and are healthy. Or at least were when I packed them up minus the minor nip tails, the males jaw ( which I never knew was bad) and the female 1's toes. All said and done I think you got a good deal on it all I gave you the opportunity to look at them sorry if you were not pleased."

My last response

"You did give me a chance to look at them, and I made my mistake by simply glancing at them. That was my bad. But realistically those animals were far from what you posted. The only defect you mentioned was a nipped tail on one female. You left out a laundry list of other defects. And I really have a rough time believing that you never noticed that the female's leg was broken. When you hold it you can't help but realize that it cannot move its leg whatsoever, it just hangs limp. It's pretty weak that you're going to try and blame that on the car ride over too. Even if it did get injured on the way over, you should be responsible for transporting them with care. If it happened on the ride over that's pretty irresponsible if you ask me. Anyhow keep your cash, as far as I'm concerned your name is dirt in the reptile community."

He continues to pretend that he didn't know the female had a broken leg, so tonight when I have more time I plan on uploading a video.

My responses to him

As I said before when I was packing up she was walking fine as for simply glancing that is your fault. I by no means am an irresponsible reptile owner and if you're saying they are ugly and unhealthy animals why would you have purchased them. I simply posted that they were beautiful and healthy and in my eyes they are that. She was not limping on it or anything. And you seen me getting the sand off her leg she moved it then. I do not know how it got to be broken honestly but I do apologize for her leg I do not know what happened. I am not trying to rip you off by any means. I just feel it was a fair deal and you could have mentioned anything you disliked.

If you would like to bring the bearded dragons back to me I will buy them $40 a piece off of you. If you do not want them.

That is 120 for just them they make awesome pets and I will continue to take care of them. It is not that I have bad ethics. It is that he purchased something he does not like and that is his fault for not looking. I purchased the big male from a pet store who rescued it and I bought it from her it's mouth has been like that since I have owned it, the nipped tail and toes were from it's siblings when it was younger but still active and healthy, it did NOT have a broken leg when I took it there. Also, the 2nd females broken toe I never noticed but it could have been from getting caught on the half log hide or the repti hamoc I had in the cage that I recently threw out.

unfortunately this is on both of you, Brock you should have disclosed all the nips and any potential problems, even if it seems only cosmetic to you and you have seen it there the whole you had them.

Josh, you should have asked for more and more pics before agreeing to buy them. anyone can take pics and hide defects like that and IF that were the case you would find more people wholly on your side. but that is not the case and asking for many pics is a way to make sure you get exactly what you are expecting.

Over all it is a lesson for both of you and at this point i do believe that brock didn't mention anything on purpose. i had looked at that ad myself just to see what was being offered.

Actually he seen them in person before purchasing them I was sitting there showing him in person the defaults

You're absolutely right, I did purchase something I didn't like without looking. You didn't force them upon me. I was just upset because your ad didn't portray the flaws of the animals for sale. Like I mentioned earlier you seem like a nice guy, and when I talked to you I know you have a passion for herps just as I do. Offering to buy them back is the kind gesture I was hoping for. It shows that you are responsible and because of this I'll gladly turn this thread around in your favor. Are you willing to meet up at the All Cleveland Reptile show this September to buy them back?

And this is coming from a reptile flipper I will take them as pets but he even admitted to being a reptile flipper I used to do that but now I just needed the space open my mom and dad didn't want them anymore

like i said a learning experience for both of you. if he had asked he wouldn't have bearded dragons he is not happy with. if you were more upfront before you drove out there you wouldn't have an unhappy customer.

I will meet you there to buy them back if I can make it I don't know if my grandma has a breast cancer appointment that day but I will try to make it.

and Brock to be fair, you did mention that there was the nip even right in front of my face. But it wasn't like you pointed out the other multiple nipS, and at the time I glanced and thought nip, ya that was in the ad, no big deal. So ya part of this was defiantly my fault, but I still believe you should be partly at fault as well for not giving full detail in your ad. I think that we should both take some knowledge from this trade. Me- I need to learn to ask more questions, ask for pictures, and take a better look at the animals I'm purchasing when purchasing them. Brock- Just be as precise as possible when posting ads, you really do seem to be a good guy, you're offering to buy them back and that's a respectful and responsible offer (that I will accept =p). It's best to always tell the customer everything up front so that there is less chance for problems to arise, and people will respect your integrity.

Really Brock? You just talked about going to the show this month when you were at my house yesterday. Are you really willing to buy them back?

Yes I will buy them back, and I was thinking of a different date sorry yeah I will be there Josh :) I was thinking the reptile show was 19th not 18th
Sorry for confusion

I do take fault for not adding all the details but never knew anything was wrong with the male besides the tail seen his mouth opened when I checked but never occurred to me.

It's cool Brock, so long as I see you at the show we'll be cool =), and Bill yes he picked one up and showed me one default, but the rest I glanced at and did not pick up/ thoroughly check individually. No hard feelings man, guess I'll be seeing you at the show, Ill txt you so we can figure out a time.

maybe if you thought about it, attending the show on a sunday, how many doctor appts are made for sundays?

on the same note, we really don't need to know about his(your?) relative's medical matters. He should know what he has to do AND when he is free. specifics should only be about the sell and nothing more.

many times we have seen people here use family as an excuse as to why they have not been able to honor an agreement and more often then not it was all a lie.
