In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I will keep this as short as possible. I answered the add for the sale of a sunglow corn with hours of its posting. By the time Jo clarified which snake I was referring to ?? (only ad/pm) . My posting was I WILL TAKE THE SNAKE IF STILL AVAILABLE. My one and only response from them was 'call us tomorrow and we will set up shipping" . Upon my call I was then told it had been sold to someone else. At no time was I told I needed to 'pay now' to insure my purpose. The entire exchange was that I was purchasing. I was told by Jay that I took too long -I was PM'd at 9am and called at 2pm as I am a busy retail pharmacist, and that at 1pm someone called and payed . For gods sake, a WE DO NOT HOLD ANIMALS warning at least, but don't have a conversation like you give a shit about your customers and then tell the next caller-oh, sure, I haven't seen money so its yours. I apologise that this is disjointed but have had to write during work

can easily post actual exchange-as my coworker said "I'm pissed off for you"

im confused here what exactly took place??
Is it that they did not hold the animal for you till you were ready to pay??

The Possibly Gravid Female? She is still available. If you call in today we may still be able to get it shipped out today, as long as weather in your area is good. Give the store a call at 954 427 2938 and speak with Jay or Ryan, they'll be able to complete your transaction.
Thank you
Jo

I am sorry the PM's are not time stamped but I would like to emphasize the original PM from me was within hours of their original post. This morning the JUNGLE posted the last pm with phone number. I did not see until around noon, couldn't call until 2pm due to job .
I ' get' that businesses are not going to have the same values as hobbyist selling but I may as well not even communicated with the Jungle as the snake was sold to someone for whom it was the first communication but got shipping quote and sent money ASAP. Live and learn. Ironic that now I'm the bad guy for profanity:reddevil:

As response to FlameBoy
I was plenty ready to pay, but needed a shipping quote, but, sadly, I did not call early enough in the day. I totally get that a business is not going to be as ethical or even "fair" as a hobbyist selling snakes but I did not see this coming. I was giving one employee my shipping address and a second employee is yelling in the background "stop! its already been sold!"

Unfortunately, with the multiple employee aspect (left hand not necessarily aware of the right), that can happen.

Someone else beat you to the punch before you could pay. I did not see it said that the animal would be held specifically for you prior to payment. For any given animal I post, I usually have several who say they want it, say they will pay, or say something similar. Not all will do so and I do not have a device which tells which will be which. If a person asks me to hold it until [future time] and I agree, it is on me to uphold that promise until that time is reached. If I have made no agreement to hold/wait, then the animal is still openly for sale. If another person acts while one person is still intending, the one who is bolder will seize the opportunity and the one who intends without prompt action may well miss the opportunity. There are soldi buyers who lose out to other solid buyers in this fashion. Happens to me as a buyer, too. It has a sting to it for sure, but it is part of that reality.

I do not see how that justifies a "bad guy" thread unless it had been promised to be held for you until some point in time and it was then sold out from under you.

As for the irony, I do not see it. There is not supposed to be the use of profanity on this site and there is a rule against it as per the decision of the site owner. Participation is voluntary with all that that entails.

I answered the add for the sale of a sunglow corn with hours of its posting. By the time Jo clarified which snake I was referring to ?? (only ad/pm)
It appears that you did not initiate the PM using the contact button in the ad...and the title, "Beauty", does not not indicate what snake you want to buy; neither did your message of "If still available I will take". Your only ad/pm comment is inaccurate, as my count is 15 ads that they posted yesterday, and we have no way of saying how many PMs might have been in their inbox.

The phone number and email are clearly posted in the ad...it is also their signature. While they did not specify not to use PMs; emails and phones will generally get a more rapid response than a message left on a forum (unless the person is actually on the site when you send the message).

Ironic that now I'm the bad guy for profanity
You aren't a bad guy for profanity...but you come off as a bit of a whiner for this thread. Maybe some hobbyists are content to wait for somebody that says "I want it" ("I'll take it" whatever); but you didn't really display any serious commitment to the purchase. I'm sure you don't agree; saying you'll take it means exactly jack to a seller. You didn't even ask for payment information or a shipping price, which would have given your message a hint of credibility.

For future reference, you might consider actually forming sentences when contacting a seller. Either identify the animal in the title, or include the description in your message (or both). Ask for shipping price and payment information as soon as you are certain you intend to purchase. Neither of those things will necessarily allow you to take your sweet time in completing the transaction; but it will save unnecessary delays. And, if you really want something, send your PM & follow up with an email (if one is provided)

Looks like I was a little overzealous with the backspace button - I took out more than intended when I reviewed the post.

My one and only response from them was 'call us tomorrow and we will set up shipping"
Was that response left out of the communication stream? The closest thing I see to that was telling you that if you call that day, the snake could possibly be included in the day's shipments.

It sucks missing out on an animal you want - most of us have been there - but from what has been posted, you dropped the ball, not the seller.

Im sorry you are so upset Tom but you never asked me to hold the animal for you, had you I would have advised you to call into the store and put a deposit down on the snake. The snake was still listed for sale after you messaged us, at no point did I tell you I was going to hold the snake for you, had I told you I was going to hold it I would have take it off of Fauna or marked it sold. Unfortunately in retail it is a first come first serve basis, we do our best to make everyone happy but sometimes we cant.

I don't see how you got burned, I consider an animal held when a deposit is made. If most breeders took the word of mouth to hold animals, they would be left high and dry many times and could lose out on potential sales.

Got it loud and clear- my personal preference and naïveté will keep me to hobbyist only. I had money ready to send for an adult cinder pair offered lately. The seller had someone make his intentions clear that he was buying them yet he had not paid yet. Did he sell them to me. No, he contacted the other person to let him know pay now, there are others ready to, he got his snakes. Obviously I would have the cinders now given the business only mindset of many. Lesson learned

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I'll take it" only to have the deposit/payment not show up. If I do hear anything but <<<crickets>>> from the buyer afterward, it's usually "Yeah, sorry, the wife said no..."

Tom, I'm sorry but you are simply blowing this way out of proportion. Suggesting that they care nothing about their customers and just their bottom-line isn't even close to being fair by your own timeline of what happened and the evidence of the communications you had.

You should really read over your own posts regarding communications with the seller and your description of what transpired. Hopefully you can see what others take from this thread after you calm down about not being able to obtain a snake someone was advertising.

I will keep this as short as possible. I answered the add for the sale of a sunglow corn with hours of its posting. By the time Jo clarified which snake I was referring to ?? (only ad/pm) .

Now is that really fair and accurate? Here is your communication.

Is it really by the time Jo clarified or by the time Tom clarified?

He had to ask because you didn't tell him which snake you were interested in.

You're communicating with Jo online and he tells you to call the store to make the purchase that at the time he is writing it is still available.
Ask for Jay or Ryan. This was at 9 am in morning according to you. When you called at 2 the animal was sold. This is what you stated here about that.
don't have a conversation like you give a shit about your customers and then tell the next caller-oh, sure, I haven't seen money so its yours.

How do you know that the next person who called got the snake that Jo talked to? You called the store and it was sold when you talked to Jay or Ryan.

That comment and these
Did he sell them to me. No, he contacted the other person to let him know pay now, there are others ready to, he got his snakes.
(He did. he contacted the other person and told him to pay now? You know this how? How about the other person called the store and payed? Why state things like this?)
I totally get that a business is not going to be as ethical or even "fair" as a hobbyist selling snakes but I did not see this coming.

are just really absurd and unfair by the evidence you presented.

This is really just the plain truth about your experience.
I was plenty ready to pay, but needed a shipping quote, but, sadly, I did not call early enough in the day.
Not the rest of that quote.

Got it loud and clear- my personal preference and naïveté will keep me to hobbyist only. I had money ready to send for an adult cinder pair offered lately. The seller had someone make his intentions clear that he was buying them yet he had not paid yet.

I highly doubt you would experience much difference by anyone that has multiple people contacting them about a ad but let me give you another point to think about. Again, this is what he told you in the morning.

He didn't tell you that he would hold the snake. He told you to call the store and talk to the staff that could process the transaction. Somebody called in and did just that before you. He didn't state it's yours. He told you the procedure. You didn't respond that morning because you were working.
He hadn't heard from you by private message or call that you would do just that but someone did before you. Really that's the end of the story and I wouldn't even had bothered commenting on this because others have already but your overreaction is extremely over-the-top for what transpired.

I'm sorry these statements just don't fit In my opinion. You weren't "burned". They weren't unethical, "lacking values" or pretending to care about their customers.

You're just angry that you didn't get the snake and your overreaction and emotion of outrage is unwarranted in my opinion.

Much like your overreaction of the private correspondence (means nobody but you and the moderators can see) that you received about profanity not being allowed here somehow means you are now a bad guy.

No one is going to hold a snake without a deposit. You'd end up holding it for year waiting on half the people to make good on the deal. If you want it, you need to pay in full or put a deposit down. You can say you want it a million times but if someone with cash comes in, they get it. No payment or deposit, no animal. Too many flakes that waste your time.

Fully agree, 20 years ago a gentlemans word was his bond and was more than good enough, today? Hardly any gentlemen left in this world!
I like to think the best of people but unfortunately it is becoming more and more depressing doing business day by day
Sometimes I just HATE people!
Sorry you got so upset but seller is NOT at fault at all here and this was/is a complete waste of web space.
I am sure we have ALL missed out on something we badly wanted but to then spit your dummy out and start calling people names?
Very bad form and I know who I will be doing business with judging by this thread!

I do occasionally (very infrequently) hold an animal on word alone, but there has to be explicit wording on both sides of that agreement. It is not the default by any means. Such an exception certainly did not occur in the discussions of this non-deal.
