In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Buyers beware! Summer Matson Layne; c&s serpents; possible scammer

Just my $0.02, but it would have been a red flag instantly for me to see someone supposedly pricing a pastel, a pastel orange dream, and a pastel lemonback the same. The $50 is about right for a pastel, but the pastel orange dream should have been several hundred based on the current market.

Absolutely. With the very first message, from the "seller", I would have been "running away", from dealing with that person, as fast as I could. For the pricing but not only due to the prices.

I was also appalled that the "seller" stated that the baby snakes (or all of their snakes, including babies) were only fed every two weeks.
That they would be willing to ship out, on a Friday, was also bothersome.
'Course, then again, the "seller" could have said anything, that they wanted, since they had no intention, of shipping something out, anyway.

I'm not sure what a lemonback is, but I'm sure it would cost more than a plain pastel.

A Lemonback is a line of Fire (morph).

Amy, I do believe this person scammed you. I feel for you to see that this has happened.
Hopefully you will get your money back from PayPal. If you did not send payment via "family & friends", there is no reason that the money should not be returned to you (by PayPal).

BTW Amy, on a side note, please don't ever have a snake (or other critter) shipped out on a Friday. The best thing is to only have animals shipped out on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (for arrival on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday).

Deb, if I could add to your karma, I would have for this post. Excellent!

Unfortunately, unless people start going to jail, I don't see any end to these scams. In almost every case I can find, they seem to get away with it facing at worst a successful chargeback and some bans.

I just messaged Summer on FB and asked her if she was aware of this thread.

For future reference. Red flags were:

Too cheap for market pricing
Responding directly from a looking for (not always bad, but get references when they do)
Horrible grammar
17.50 shipping

As long as you didn't pay via paypal gift option (or friend and family option) you will win the dispute. If the seller contacts you asking you to saying to drop the dispute they are sending the snake. DO NOT drop the dispute. Once you drop it, it's gone.

Good luck.

I sent summer a link to this thread on Facebook too. She still hasn't viewed the message though. I'm not friends with her so it's possible she hasn't seen it.

Of course hindsight is 20/20 and a beginner just doesn't know. We are not all BOI junkies, lol. That's why I applaud the OP for posting this here to educate and warn others. It took some courage.

How many times has this "seller" done this before and no one alerted anyone to it? Especially when the dollar amount, in the great scheme of things, was on the lower side (no amount however small is okay). As we know, many people feel so ashamed of being taken that they keep it to themselves. The scammers depend on this silence.

There were also some things to sweeten this deal and to encourage a speedy purchase like pretty pictures (easily enough obtained these days), a promise of good genetics and confirmed lineage without actually revealing it, a representation that gives an air of knowledge, and the good old someone-else-wants-it-so-hurry tactic. While not as glaring the red flags already listed, it is part of the big picture here.

Summer/C&S Serpents replied that the op has already received a refund.

.....wow, drug dealers are more reputable than some of these "people" on here. On the bright side, your new baby python looks gorgeous!

Looks like the seller has decided to create an account and join in the conversation. Wonder which version of her surname is the real one. I also have to wonder how her "company" was supposedly scammed out of "$140+," when the total sale seems to have amounted to $70.50. :shrug01: This oughta be interesting. :popcorn_02:
