In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello everyone. I'm planning on getting a baby Savannah monitor. I have this really big, thick, clear rubbermaid bin with a locking top. I was thinking of cutting a hole in the top and putting wire mesh over the hole to put basking lamps on. I'm going to use reptile bark/soil that I've seen at petstores for a substrate. Do you think that the basking lamps would melt the plastic? Obviously I wouldn't have them touching the plastic at anytime, but I was wondering if it may melt the sides. I don't think the bottom will be effected because of the moist bark/soil. I appericaite any feed back. Thanks

That would depend on the size of the (really big) rubbermaid, the thickness of the plastic, the size (watts) of the bulb, and the proximity of the bulb to any plastic - top, sides, or bottom.

best thing to do is start with a 70-100gal, i don't agree with keeping any reptiles in rubbermaids except maybe snakes. then go to a custom tank. My leela is only 26" and is in a 900gal enclosure already. and it will double when she grows.
Savs like 120-140* basking temps, that will kill any plastic overtime. All i can say, is do your research. Monitors take a lot of time, a lot of money, LOTS of space and LOTS of work. it's like having a kid. :)
Take a look at proexotics.com's caresheets and down-to-earth explanantions.
