In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

California Zoological Supply (Inquiry)

tony, you're an idiot. I used to own a reptile store. We stopped dealing with calzoo for two reasons. High death rates/poor quality on the animals I ordered from them and the conditions of the facility when I personally went there.

Try not to be such a dumbass just because you have that unaccostomed hardon.

WEEeesssss...

You know you are walking that razor's edge again, don't you?

Anthony and you are both decent people. Why not just agree to disagree as you both are never going to see eye to eye. (Probably on anything :) )

We're in the BOI and I'm not modding this thread.

I'd say I'm ok.

Occam, what say you?

Mr. Pollock,

The mortality rate you threw out there has to be exaggerated or Ty wouldn't be in business after 30 years. Even if the animals died after they reached the customer, he would have run out of customers long ago. Our little "industry" isn't big enough to support someone like that.

Secondly, this thread was about whether or not Ty would pay. You, due to some personal vendetta, brought that up to slander Ty and his business.

I'm not sure why you brought up the fact that you used to own a reptile store, but that really only tells me that you weren't very good at it. After all, you would still be in business otherwise. Sounds to me you're just bitter that you couldn't hack it in business...maybe that's why you spend so much time here trying to belittle everyone else.

Now for your personal insults, I may be a lot of things, but I'm certainly not an idiot or a dumbass. Quite the contrary, actually. I've been cursed with a high IQ, which makes it really tough to relate with people like yourself. Fortunately, I can tell when I'm smarter than the other guy and I know not to get too bent out of shape.

That said, I think in this instance, I think you calling me those names is what they call self-projection. :)

And finally, a question. Now that you're calling me names (idiot, dumbass, etc.), where are your warning points? Then again, I guess at 150 warning points (those are since your last ban as I understand it), it doesn't really matter.

That's it? Was that last one that good? Wow. I'm a relative newbie at this stuff and I'm already that good? Maybe I've found my new calling. lol

OK. Take it easy, Wes. I'm done messing with you...unless you want some more (kidding).

tony, what you don't understand is that my comment was entirely relevant. I said ty would pay up, he's a stand up guy in that reguard. Did you miss that part?

I also know from first hand experience that his animals often suck. I still wholesale down here in So. Cal and when I see sickly animals in shops I sell to I almost always ask where they came from. OFTEN the answer is calzoo. I then do my best to address the needs of the sick lizards/snakes/ chelonians/ insects what have you.

Why I don't have my shop is none of your business.

Whatever you think of yourself and your supposed high IQ is just fine and dandy with me, frankly I don't give a squirt. I, personally, think you're both an idiot and a dumbass and unless you magically gain the ability to prove that, I won't be changing my opinion. I simply don't care what you think of what I think. This is obviously not true of you, hence your continued response to my barbs. Cool but not new, original or particularly entertaining, you just ain't all that much no matter how much you think otherwise.

ty may well be able to take huge losses and still stay in business. When you can mark up animals out of the wild double, triple, ten times what you've paid, you don't need to sell many to make a profit. I know this because I have also worked for an importer/wholesaler. Again though, I just don't really care. IF people who sell to ty don't care about the way their animals are cared for, and he may well have improved on his captive born husbandry but the imports are still rough, then they are welcome to sell to him and post how proud they are not to care what happens to their stock once they've sold it. Just as I am free to speak up on what I know. Just as you are free to speak up on what you think you know.

Have at it tony, if you must. Don't feel bad if I ignore you though. There's a long line of dimwits who clamour for my attention and some of them are more interesting than you.

If any of the words I used were unknown to you try going here, www.dictionary.com. You just type in the word you don't know, spelled correctly, and hit send or enter. You will then get a series of definitions that should help with your comprehension.

No Wes, I'm done messing with you...seriously. I actually felt a little guilty about what I said, hence my trying to make light of it in my last post. I can definitely be a prick, but I'm not a mean guy, so I apologize if I brought up any bad memories about the pet store or whatever. Call it karma or whatever you want, but I don't like to play that rough...even if I am good at it. :)

And yes...I know what the margins are like on WC animals and I still disagree with the validity of the mortality rate you put out there (it may be higher than it should, but not 75%). However, proving my point would take a lot longer than I'm willing to spend and it still wouldn't accomplish anything. As they say, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

I guess I should add that I've sold geckos to Ty and everything went smoothly. I actually spent a couple hours with him on the phone and via email, answering his questions about the best way to set them up, about my feeding regimen, etc.

and yet you make yet another pitiful attempt to do so. Ok.......

Seems you not just an idiot but a liar as well. I never said 75%. Tell you what, you agree to whatever makes you feel better and I'll just stick to what I have seen and continue to see with my own eyes.

So, you had to educate a guy who's been doing this what, 25, 30 years? And you just did this recently?

Yeah, I'd be REAL comfortable sending my animals to him. You betcha.

Wes,

Seriously, you can ease up. You've made it clear that you're willing to argue just for the sake of arguing, but I don't have time for that. I said my piece and I'm done.

It's genuinely sad that a grown man does this all day, every day to pass thetime. Life's too short, Wes. You should start working with a new species or something (seriously).

Take care,
Anthony

Thanks to all of you who posted supportive comments about me and Cal Zoo. If anyone is interested in receiving photos of our facility, please send me an email request. I will be more than happy to reply and attach current photos of the shop. [email protected].
To clarify one point; yes, even though we've been in business for over 30 years, we still consult with the breeders we buy from in order to find out what they've been doing with the stock they're shipping so we can continue doing so. Anyone who's been in this industry for even a short while would realize that this is not only common but prudent. Animal care is not a black and white issue. There are huge variables. The day my attitude changes to I feel I know everything about reptiles is the day my business will be on a downhill track to closing. I'm am always open to new ways and suggestions to keep reptiles and I will never stop asking people how they do it.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL

Jack, in the future you should limit yourself to simply asking and answering questions. I would steer clear of any attempts at clever retorts. You don't seem to be well equipped to deliver them

for the Bigman.....I'd say that was moderately clever.......

We need to grade Keith on a curve also, as he would use caulk on a chalk board when he would "Caulk 1 up".

I sometimes feel like I've been transported to a parallel universe when Keith posts(sorry Keith)...maybe I have to purchase a Keith to English dictionary?? Anybody got one laying around?? :D
