In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Charles Barlett,From NC,Says he sent money..never did

Brendon, just happened to stumble across this post this morning and see how out of control it has gotten thus far. Most of us cannot manage to win an argument with our spouses, much less expect to come to the thousands of members here and expect their not to be some kind of issue, request for more info, evidence, requirements or protocol, where most likely the only end result or resolve will be 338 more posts all saying the same thing, that everyone agrees to disagree.

I have known Brendon for quite a few years now, and trust his word 100%. If that makes me one of his GROUPIES, then im at the top of the list. The way I see it, Brendon had limited contact with this buyer, mostly by phone. He has posted what evidence he has, im not sure he can provide much more. And since this buyer has not returned his voicemails or text messages, and has not made an effort to come here and defend himself, I would say thay Brendon has provided sufficient evidence to me to warrant this person as a shady buyer.

Thanks for the heads up Brendon, this guy will be on my radar

So did the 'buyer' tell you via phone, text or email that he's sent the payment? Has he insisted he sent payment after you told him you received no payment? Or has he just told you some BS and disappeared?

And for me, I prefer to see evidence because it's rather unfair to say "Oh this guy is cool" when a newbie is told 'We won't believe you if you can't show some proof." So it's not personal, I'd want anyone to show proof, even if they were a mod here or my bestie.

The threads on the BOI are not here just for a OP's friends, they are here for total strangers who are researching a buyer/seller. Those people need to be able to see the evidence so they KNOW you are right. Even if most of the posters on here completely trust you on your word, the thread will only hold weight to future readers if there's something concrete.

I hope you get the animals sold and the guy doesn't cause any further drama for you.

To whatever classy member decided to neg rep me with the word "troll" (doubt you'll admit it), where is the evidence that this guy said he sent payment? Why would anyone take the word of someone he doesn't know and never even heard of?

If this was a thread where he went on about the guy's business practices, or down his selling ability, or say he WAS a scammer I could see your points. Really I could.
But he isn't. He said this guy seems like a shady buyer. If you want to take the chance on him, go for it. It really isn't hurting the guy in the same sense as a "he ripped me off" claim. We can sell to whoever we choose, a few of us (Groupies:rolleyes:) said his claims here were enough for US not to sell to this guy.....If you still choose to, it won't bother anyone else.

When making a BOI where someone is claiming to have been scammed sure.....I honestly need proof too. I try to wait to make my decision until I know enough about the situation. This was NOT one of those threads though....

Brendon did the right thing here, and if it isn't enough for you then go ahead and sell to this guy.

As far as taking someone's word goes....I just said I believed him. Not that anyone else has to. It would be no different than if my father was a member....would I really ask him for evidence? I wouldn't blame you for asking though:thumbsup:

Not to mention the possibility of losing a sale.
I am NOT saying it happened this time but, ......what if an ad was pulled? Or something went marked as sold? OR someone had their eye on "said animal" and then moved onto another seller......

That's an easy one Amanda.

Never pull an ad or mark it sold until you have been paid.so many buyers flake out on deals you can't be holding animals with out being paid.

First to pay gets the animal!:yesnod:

The difference is that if the 'buyer' said he was GOING to send money, or said "send me a money request", that's not the same as saying that he DID send money. If he is claiming he did send money, then he is basically saying "Hey, I sent the money, now send me my animals!" when the seller/OP never received any money.

If he just said he was going to send the money, it's a lesser offense that's just irritating that he's a lookie-loo, who flaked out on a deal.

Either way, I'd prefer to not do business with him, but one is potentially a scam, the other is an annoyance.

Theresa, the OP did say this:
He said he sent money and i never received it, i checked a few times thru the daytime, nothing. I tried calling him no answer,i tried texting no answer.
So Lesson learned never dealing with him again...said he paid for this pair of albino burms and never did, then no where to be found.
thanks

yes, Ed. But none of this matters. This was not about buyer remorse, this is about a "buyer" saying he SENT the money, when the money is not to be found. Very BIG difference.

Even if that turns out to be true, what scammer says I sent the money, then disappears? This guy just probably has no idea what he's doing. He may have really thought that he sent the money, then disappeared because he's embarassed. He could be old or otherwise out of touch with the way things go.

I think you people are assuming an awful lot here. Scammers don't back off until they get something from you.

No one has said anything about buyers remorse.

If the buyer said he sent money and nothing shows up, it's not a stretch that we as sellers will not ship until the money is showing in our paypal account.

Some have said this guy is trying to scam, I don't think that at all. more than likely he planned on sending the money but came up short of the funds he needed to purchase.now if he was asking for a shipment before paying maybe his intentions are not good.

Just to clarify, I never called anyone a scammer. I must have missed it if someone has:shrug01:.

Semantics. You don't have to actually say the word "scammer" for it to be implied. Context clues...

...you are fun! I NEVER even implied a scammer, I have kept saying thanks for the warning, and I, myself will not be selling to this individual.

I have not even came close to suggesting I thought he was a scammer.
If you are just looking to argue, I am sorry but I'm not the one.

Then why do you keep quoting me and arguing when I am not even talking to you. The first post of mine that you quoted, actually quoted someone else. If you don't want to argue, don't jump in where you don't belong.

I implied he would be a scammer IF he came back insisting he sent it. I saw that the OP said the guy said he sent it. If he was insisting he did send it, then it would be a possible scam. If he's dropped off the face of the earth, then he's probably just a lookie-loo who backed out.

And Jay, anyone who wants to can comment as long as they are following the TOS.

Did I say she couldn't comment? Because you'll have to point out to me where I said that. Anyone with decent reading comprehension skills knows that that can be interpreted as, "If you don't want to argue, don't start arguments." ;)

"Don't jump in where you don't belong" can be interpeted as "You don't belong in this conversation so I'll just argue with you if you try."

Emotion can't be conveyed easily via text. If I misinterpeted, then my bad, I'm sorry.

I understand, but it wasn't just "Don't jump in where you don't belong." The entire sentence was, "If you don't want to argue, don't jump in where you don't belong."

And by "where you don't belong", I am not referring to this thread. I don't belong here anymore than anyone else does. I was telling her not to make herself the person I was directing my comments to, when she wasn't the person I was directing my comments to. It's almost like she jumped in front of a bullet for someone.

So I apologize if I wasn't being clear.

Re: Charles Bartlett

Just a word of caution to everyone regarding Charles Bartlett.

Two days ago I received a phone call from an individual in NC who said he recently bought some het albino ball pythons from Charles Bartlett. He said Bartlett told him that he (Bartlett) had gotten the animals from me. Bartlett went on to say that he and I are good friends and have done joint breeding projects and other ventures together.

I want to advise everyone that I don't know Charles Bartlett, and hadn't even heard his name before this incident. I realize that sometimes people drop the names of established or well known breeders in an effort to impress others or gain credibility, but apparently Bartlett went well beyond simply referencing my name. Since he lied about his relationship with me, it calls into question his claim that the ball pythons are indeed het for albino.

Bartlett's behavior in this instance is enough for me to never trust him or do business with him. I don't participate in forums very often, but I thought I should share this with everyone.

Happy Herping,

Brian Sharp
