    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Clutch 5 pipped, and was having a lot of fun doing the head duck; so I cut the eggs a bit to take a look (see thread entitled Extra nice pastel with an interesting head). As I looked at the tub with Mine's eggs, I did a quick calculation - Day 54!! - the hand holding the razor started to tremble, and I couldn't help myself...I had to take a peek.
I don't think this could have gone too much better...unless the normal had been a super, lol; but I think I'm going to be very happy with these babies.
Here's a sneak peek into the eggs, for those that have been interested in this project.

I'm excited to see them come out, I can only imagine how you feel lol...it looks like they have alternating yellow and white/grey side markings?

I'm not a big fan of inbreeding within an established morph.
I'm more interested in first proving the phenotype reproducible...at this point, there is no reason to consider either look a line bred trait.
A question about them actually being mojaves has also been raised a few times; so I will probably repeat the pairing to see if a super is produced. The female mojave shown in the Snake thread is also available toward that end.

That look is not particularly uncommon in lessers; or, at least it wasn't several years ago...people have done a good job of uglying them up.

I'm so glad you said that. I don't know why, but any time someone mentions breeding a baby back to mom I get a little put off.

I understand that some people consider it a necessity, but even if I was trying to establish a new morph I would try as hard as I could to get some diversity or breed it out a little further.

The way things have been going here this season; these probably won't come out til the end of the month (I think all 5 of the already hatched clutches took about 70 days). With about 10 days left, the coloration hasn't fully developed; so I'm sure they'll change in appearance by then.

*Having acknowledged that these eggs probably aren't "on the verge of hatching", I suppose I should say that I am not expecting this clutch to go 70 days. There was a thermostat oops (misplaced probe) that caused lower temperatures, which in caused the longer incubation period. That was discovered (and corrected) not quite 3 weeks after these eggs were laid; so they should be cooked sooner than the others.
 
Hmmm - all four babies are fully out of their respective eggs; and, unfortunately, I'm not nearly as thrilled as I was a week ago.
I'm not unhappy with the look of the babies; but I won't say I'm not a little disappointed. (Okay, we all know I'm not a sunshine and rainbows kind of guy - I'm very disappointed, and there's really only one baby that is of any interest to me....so I'm unhappy with the prospect of keeping the other three just in case. There, I said it.)
Pics to follow - when I get back from my errands this afternoon. I'd take them now, but I apparently killed the battery trying (unsuccessfully) to get a decent low light picture at 4am.

Nice looking; but only the one in the third pic is of interest to me.

(For the record, I do believe her to be a normal; but, having been told by a few people that are far more into BPs than me that the sire is more than "just" a mojave - that there's something else in there, I'm going to hold onto her for a bit

Thanks. The first two are decent looking mojaves; but still a disappointment - I had high hopes for this clutch since both parents are virtually spotless (I think there are two on Mine). The third one still has those annoying ugly spots; but there are fewer of them, and they're much smaller....overall, I mostly like him.
And, I sort of like the last one. Didn't really plan on holding onto any normals ( :ack2: ); but, in her case, it won't hurt too badly - she's only got a couple of small ugly spots.
 
Well maybe the normal with the least ugly spot will throw more snakes in the future with less spots as lonh as you have a male that has little to none. Maybe one day all your babies will be spotless!
 
To be honest - I sort of expected this outcome; even though I was hoping for a Mini-Mine and a New Chance...spots on mojaves are the norm. I would love to reproduce the phenotypes of the parents of this clutch - but pairing them together probably wasn't the best way to accomplish that
