In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You will do whatever you want so why did you even bother putting up the poll? I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I expected the yes posts to outnumber the no posts because a lot of the people who would probably vote no realize there is no point to voting anyway. I still think this is a good site and it is worth my time to keep checking every day but with every new irrelevant (to me) forum that is added it looses some appeal.

As long as we are asking though. Can we start a forum for sports card collecting?

I love this site. If there was a sports card collecting forum, I'd never be there because it majorly is not my thing, but the site would not lose any appeal to me just because one small part of it was irrelevant to me.

Back in the days when I was running the LH forum, I got the occasional person who would say something about it not being reptile related. It never bothered me, because the people who did visit that forum got something out of it and many seemed to enjoy the polls and posts.

It doesn't cost you any extra to have added forums. What's the beef?

If the new posts search were set up to include more than 200 posts I would not have a beef at all. The way it is set up now, only the most recent 200 posts show up in a search. With new posts in the cooking forum it will mean that some reptile related posts will not show up in the new posts search. If you go much more than a day without checking the new posts there are over 200 of them thus some won't get listed. I don't see why it is so much trouble to expand the search. Rich didn't want to raise it from 100 to 200 but he eventually did. The presence of forums that don't interest me is not what bothers me. It is the fact that the presence of those posts may keep me from seeing things that do interest me is what I think is a detriment to the site. Keep all the other forums if you want to but let people have the chance to see what they are missing.

As far as the universe thing goes, It is built exactly around my wishes so I have no problems with that.

Bill, you are right on that. Rich does do a very good job at involving members and for that I give him credit. As long as he agrees with the majority everything is fine.

Well, here's a test question, Steve. Why do you think I would want to limit the number of hits every search request takes on this site?

if you dont check the forums that often, why not just go to the forums you are interested in manually? I do that from time to time if i havent been on in a few days.... Its really not that difficult.

You know, I have been using these message board scripts for a LONG time. Not just my own, but other sites as well. And I have NEVER used the NEW POSTS option. I simply go to the forum categories I am interested in and those are the threads I browse through. I have never had, nor been to, ANY forum site that had 100 percent of the forums I was interested in. Even here, there are forums I haven't been to since setting them up years ago unless a reported post takes me there. I just don't have the interest in them, and I prefer spending my time doing things I have to do and want to do, in that order. So if this site were composed solely of forums that only I were interested in, it would be a LOT smaller, believe me.

Sharing with each other in a positive and productive manner is not a detriment to this site. Being selfish and lazy and all pissy to the point of arrogance is.

I think you are greatly under estimating the value of this new forum. But then that's your choice. What if a summer barbecue was set up where I invited some members to my house to share in some good barbecue and do a little field/roadside herping during the day. It wouldn't interest you?

Ya know, it really doesn't matter how we come together but that we come together.

Just a thought- it might not be practical, but is there a way to organize this forum? Unlike other forums where we share threads and then a year later the threads are buried somewhere but folks rarely go back to retrieve a post, the very nature of this particular forum means that people will want to go back and check several recipes and perhaps choose the one they want to use at that particular time.

Is there a way to subdivide the forum into, let's say, main dishes, veggies, desserts and so on? That way if someone wants to look up shrimp, they don't have to scroll through a lot of other stuff.

For some stuff one can just use the search, but for others, especially if you just want to browse desserts but don't remember the title of a particular recipe you are looking for, it might be easier if all of the desserts were in one place.

I was going to suggest that but I didn't want to hit Rich with the extra work. Right now I have to be thankful I'm still even a member. I'm counting my blessings.

You can always print them out and putting them in a binder or transfer them to a recipe card. Its what I'm going to do.

I'm thankful you're a member too. You sure are bringing a lot of new interest here. I am enjoying this forum quite a bit, great idea.

I can cook:
-toast
-frozen pizzas
-water

Oh, and sometimes brownies, but that's mostly because I LOVE brownies and put a LOT of extra effort into making them crisp on the outside and so soft and warm inside... :D:D:D:D But I'm making myself hungry.
