    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is any documented correlation between the weight gained by a female during the building phase and the amount of eggs a female will lay. I would like to hear from other keepers.

I have a female that started breeding at 1900 grams, this was in November. By January she was weighing 2515, finally this month (March) she was weighing 2850 grams 3 days before her ovy.

I did palpate her in January and felt what I thought was 5 follicles. Being new to palpating I am sure that missed something or mistook some follicles for poop or organs. The reason I think my palpating may be off is because this female gained 950 grams between the beginning of the breeding cycle and her ovy. Even if each egg weighed 120 grams that would still not account for all of her weight gain. The weights were taken when she was empty and she stopped eating about 4 weeks before her ovy. I also understand that it might be that she just gained a bunch of weight from being a fatty all through December and stuffing her face before slowing down.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity I was wondering if anyone else had ever tracked this relationship between weight and amount of eggs.

Thank you all for your time and I’m looking forward to your replies.

Also here is a picture of my girl having her ovy. Poor thing was so pissy. Lol.

good grief she is huge! Intersting study cant wait to hear some breeders chime in. Think I will attempt this next season

It seems most people including myself tend to miss one or two eggs when palpating, I bet you get 6-7 nice sized eggies :thumbsup:

I'd be surprised to see that girl give you less than 7. Good luck with her!!

I was starting to lose hope there guys lol.

I hope she gives me 7, I'll make sure to look for this thread to update once she does drop. I hope to see some other breeders that keep these types of numbers chime in.

Obviously bigger girls will drop more eggs, or at least that's the assumption, but maybe there really is no way to track it since other factors would play into it. Lets see how this all plays out. I hope all of your seasons are going awesome, Here's hoping you guys all get to hit your odds!

I bet her clutch will weight very close to 950 grams. I've only done enough weighing to figure out that about 1/3 of the pre-lay weight goes into the cutch with some pretty good consistency.

Unfortunately bigger girls tend to lay bigger eggs so the number of eggs doesn't go up the full proportion as the female gets bigger. With a midsized girl like yours you might get lucky and get eight or even nine eggs in the 100 to 110 gram range but probably not twelve 80 gram eggs even though she might have laid that size eggs when she was 1,500 grams. I was lucky to get fourteen 114 grams eggs from one 4,300 gram girl last year but my other 4,300 gram girl only gave 12 good eggs because hers weighed 125 grams.

Maybe your careful weight gain records during the breeding season will help you figure out why the egg size fluctuates from year to year within the general bigger girl = bigger eggs confines. At one time I thought maybe you could selectively breed for girls that laid larger numbers of smaller eggs but after seeing how much the eggs size (but not the total clutch weight) varies even for the same female from year to year I gave up.

@CornNut - Thanks for the great info.

I would like to try and track this at least for the next 3 seasons. If I can't find anything, well, I tried. Lol. Like I had said earlier, maybe there are just to many factors to pinpoint just one reason for how many eggs they will produce. It could be ANYTHING. Too much heat, not enough heat, humidity, stress levels.

But breeding for girls that lay bigger clutches sounds awesome though. Would have loved to see that.
