Hello everyone,
I was wondering if there is any documented correlation between the weight gained by a female during the building phase and the amount of eggs a female will lay. I would like to hear from other keepers.
I have a female that started breeding at 1900 grams, this was in November. By January she was weighing 2515, finally this month (March) she was weighing 2850 grams 3 days before her ovy.
I did palpate her in January and felt what I thought was 5 follicles. Being new to palpating I am sure that missed something or mistook some follicles for poop or organs. The reason I think my palpating may be off is because this female gained 950 grams between the beginning of the breeding cycle and her ovy. Even if each egg weighed 120 grams that would still not account for all of her weight gain. The weights were taken when she was empty and she stopped eating about 4 weeks before her ovy. I also understand that it might be that she just gained a bunch of weight from being a fatty all through December and stuffing her face before slowing down.
Just to satisfy my own curiosity I was wondering if anyone else had ever tracked this relationship between weight and amount of eggs.
Thank you all for your time and I’m looking forward to your replies.

Also here is a picture of my girl having her ovy. Poor thing was so pissy. Lol.
