In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Dan Scolaro bad guy.

Randy: Yea, the health certificate is a standard form as indicated in my post. And you are wrong about my concern. I cared enough to mention this to the other buyer weeks ago knowing that I could have just said nothing and he would not have know of any concerns. How many people do you know would do that? NONE. So thank me for being so honest, and give me a bigger cookie.

Boidsmith: Yes, Dr. Jacobson is another happy customer of mine and I've sold him several fine specimens even just weeks ago. He emailed me that report months ago to show me his great work.

Dan

I just got off the phone with Dan and have come to the following conclusion....

He has represented himself very, very poorly on this forum, BUT....

I do believe he feels he has taken enough precautions to protect the rest of his animals, and therefore animals he has sent out to people. The shoebox tubs the snakes were in were not re-used thus far, and the snakes in question were not in contact with the rest of his collection.

He also stated that the Boas went through the hands of the exporter, importer, broker, and finally him before being shipped, so if IBD was present, it could have come from anywhere. This is based on what Dan told me, and it is the reason he is not concerned with IBD being in his collection.

While I can see where he's coming from, and he does seem sincere, it would be nice to see him take a more pro-active approach, which I said to him personally. It seems he feels there are some who have something against him unrelated to this topic, and for that reason, he's kind of dug his heels in here. At this point, I think only time will tell, but I don't envy him (nor those who have bought boids from him recently) right now. While I love debate, I think he could have handled things differently and saved alot of headache. Again, he has been way too nonchalant in the handling of this, and as I told him, he should really lay out all precautions he took.

On a side note, we also discussed John's handling of this whole thing and the shady way things were done. Dan feels (and I agree) that he should be just as concerned (or more) about his collection because he is a Boa breeder. John, it was also mentioned that this is not your first encounter with IBD. Can you please confirm or deny this, as I don't want to state this as fact if it is not the case.

Boidsmith: I don't keep a single boa or python in my collection so don't expect to see anything soon but several vipers dropping babies. I checked out that video and the boas I had were all nice and healthy and coiled tightly and ate just days before and had nice solid poops in their cages. The ones I shipped were biting my fingers for food and fat cats.

I'm not sure what this really means....no one is saying that Dan himself gave the animal IBD. The highly contagious nature of the disease is what concerns people....an an animal passed through someplace carrying the disease, it could very well spread it, no matter WHERE it originated. The origin of the disease has nothing to do with anything, the fact that an animal with IBD passed through is what matters.

So, you expect us to believe that in 24 hours, this snake went from fat and completely healthy and normal to emaciated, dehydrated, and having a retained shed?

And even if it was fat as you claim.....boas can be completely asymptomatic and still have IBD.

FWIW.....I shared the vet report with one of my college instructors today, who spent the majority of her adult life working in cytopathology and preparing reports such as this (albeit in humans) before getting her teaching degree. She stated that making the statement that "the lesions were compatible with inclusion body disease" meant that it was the preparer's opinion that it was indeed inclusion body disease, thus adding the statement about the etiology of the disease itself.

I don't have anything against Dan personally, or at least I didn't before this thread. Hell, I had seen his name before, but knew nothing of him. I am simply going on what I have seen here....his lies, his deception, and his cavalier attitude toward a disease that has wiped out entire collections. THAT is what I have against him.

Cat: What lie. I never lie. What deception?

And yes, I expect you to believe that I knowingly shipped a dying and diseased snake to a friend for 125 dollars and paid him 150 for it the next day for it. Don't you believe that?

Dan

You're a real piece of work, Dan.

You know, with the talent you seem to think you have for steering people away from the important issues, and talking in circles and never really answering any questions that actually matter....you should consider getting out of reptiles and into politics.

Cat:

Your comments do not jive.

If this snake had this so called virus, and you contend that it is highly contagious (as do the other experts), then how come the other snake which was bagged with it during transport and bagged with it and other a few times earlier are not sick after three or more months? And how come the other pair is thriving like the other?

Are you implying the disease is dormant inside the other snake and we need to kill it and perform an exam to see if this is a virus.

I think it's a mere case of one snake clinging onto the other and pinched off the intestine.

What exactly does not "jive"?

Boas can carry the disease and be completely asymptomatic for long periods of time. Period.

I honestly don't think you are as ignorant about this disease as you portray, Dan. If you have studied ANYTHING about it, you would not even be posing most of the questions you are asking, unless you are either deceptively "playing dumb", or you aren't playing. :shrug01:

Cat:

Ask me a direct question then. I mean the buyer got more than his money back for the scare (despite it arrived alive), and the other snake is quite healthy.

I extended the guarantee again to make another customer happy. So what else would you like to know?

Ask me a question then. But be forewarned that if you ask me a stupid question, then I will give you a stupid answer.

Dan

Cat: I realize that IBD is a very scary issue in the market, so to suggest or imply that I don't already know the obvious is an insult to me, and you guys should already have figured that out since I am a reptile dealer. And as such, any questions doubtful about what I know I packed that day (a healthy snake) are stupid questions to me and an insult. So I give stupid answers.

Dan

Dan, many of the posts you have made regarding what you claim to "know" or believe about IBD is all I have to work with....

As an example, the statement that you keep making that you know that the boa you sent was completely healthy because it didn't show any symptoms of IBD.

Sorry Dennis. Will do so in the future.

Yea, look at that report of signs and syptoms of snakes suffering from IBD. I did not see any of those signs and symptoms. Had I seen anything, then I would have called the buyer and discussed the issue. I once was packing and noticed a small nose rub on a snake and called the buyer and he was cool with it and I threw in another free snake because he was a delight to speak with. I had other sources for costa rican boas. Had that one any issues to notice, I would have told the buyer and got him another one down the road at a friends. No big deal to do that.

Dan

Frank:

How come you are not tooting my horn?

I sent you 2 frogs which arrived alive per the terms and later one did not eat and died in your care and I extended my guarantee for you and sent you back the money for it.

So toot away my friend for extending my guarantee for you.

Come on now, let me see that toot. Get on the roof of your house tonight and toot for me. Let's hear the toot.

Hey Dano!

New count on the thread views!

13,049

Seems it just jumped up another 700+ views in a little less than 4 hours!!!

Of these 700 new views, how many customers do you think you lost?

So hows business Dano?

Chuck:

Great, I had 4 new customers today and in total sold a pair of viper boas, an emerald tree boa, a pair of ptyas korros, 2 pairs of sawscale vipers, 4 pairs of cerestes cerestes, and a pair of cerestes vipera.

But why are you so concerned with my sales?

How's the business you way? Did you at least buy anything like some character?

Dan

Chuck:

If you wish to continue to broadcast my wondeful track record of almost 2000 sales and no legitimate complaints, then feel free.

I mean I have one of the best guarantees in the business, live arrival and two-week health guarantee, but I should stick with that and perhaps not extend it because being nice all the time does not seem to work always.

Perhaps you're daft, but has it not dawned on you yet that all those hits you keep looking up just might just be from your enemies that are glad to see someone stand up to you and win another argument.

Dan
