In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a 15-gram male tangerine with a "curly" tail and I was wondering what I should do with it. I don't think it is genetic, since at the time of it's incubation, I was under the impression that you only needed to moisten the vermiculite right after it was laid and the bottom of the incubator was dry. I lost several eggs and also had 2 premies as a result, but this one managed to come out of it with only a curly tail. Also, one of the premie's had a a curly tail. I have no use for this gecko. Should I sell it as a "pet" only or should I sell normally. Also, please note that I do not kill deformed animals of any kind.

thats a new one to me.... it it curled all the time?

Fine looking gecko none-the-less.... I wouldn't have the experience to tell you what to sell him as, but I'm sure other might....

About your incubation? Do you now keep water in the holding tray on the bottom of the incubator?

It's kinda cute looking if you ask me! However, it's not known 100% if it's genetic or not, so I would sell as a pet or adoption.

Since it is otherwise healthy, adoption for a pet would be a great idea. Just be sure though, that whoever you sell it to understands no breeding (in case it is genetic). That can be the hardest part, determining if people wanting to adopt a non-breedable Leo, are going to try and breed it anyways.
I have never seen a curly tail like that before.

Hmm... tough call, tough call. Personally, I don't believe his curled tail is genetic, especially if this is the first time you've seen this AND one of your premies had it. Seems environmental to me. Even if it is genetic, it's a relatively harmless deformity that probably won't affect the performance or health of the gecko at all.

If it was my gecko, I think I'd breed him, but that may just be my greed speaking because that's one pretty looking male. :) You've got a lot more experience than me breeding geckos, so my opinion may be moot anyways.

I would sell him as a pet or donate him to a local school science class where a teacher will agree to take care of him in off school season.

I sincerely doubt it, Paul. When a gecko loses its tail, only a rod of cartilage grows back - no bones. If this bone deformity is genetic, a regrown tail wouldn't likely show the trait.

Out of curiousity, does anyone else have trouble loading Sunset's page? mine always freezes. I have never heard of water on the bottom of the incubater... I use albey's method of incubation (.8 water to 1.0 perlite) and this year I have had 0 premies and 0 deformities... not bad for a bunch of first yearers. I have had some infertile eggs though :(

Don't risk letting the genetics into the pool, sell as pet only. Even if it's not genetic, I'd rather be safe than be responsible for introducing such a trait. You can't even tell if it's genetic by breeding it, because if it is genetic, you still don't know how it will pass down.

Really a bummer too cause he's a bright guy. He'd make for an interesting display animals though!

I honestly doubt it is genetic because one of my premies also had it, but just to be on the safe side, I think selling as a pet is what I'm going to have to do.

If the animal is Urban Gecko bloodline I think it is something genetic. I used a pure Urban male tang this year and hatched a couple like that. Also another breeder has hatched at least one like that from Urban bloodlines. Too many years of inbreeding.

Well then that solves it. I'll just sell it as a pet and make sure whoever buys it will agree to not breeding it.

That's good information to know, Kelli. Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for future reference.
