    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Derek Beando Dbeando scams

He has taxidermied waterfowl up for sale, which is against federal law. They can bring big fines. Wild waterfowl can not be sold, traded or bartered under federal law.

Kris, FWIW I don't think anyone is really blaming you or anyone except Derek. More of a wistful "I wish someone could have done SOMETHING" than anything else. Thank you for coming here to post, it's one of the bravest things I've ever seen in a forum like this.

You have all been very kind to say I am not to blame for what Derek has done and I appreciate that. I'm just so terribly sorry about the entire incident. All they needed was water--I can't get my head around how something so simple would have prevented such a tragedy.

I'm not particularly brave, I just want to do the right thing. Thank you Siren--you were very nice to post that message.
 
We don't know all they needed was water for certain. For all we know Derek might have gotten spiteful and poisoned them all before he was taken into custody or something. He did know the cops were on his tail after all. Or a hundred thousand other things. We'll probably never know.

Kris, you seem like a cool person. I can't imagine what you're going through personally.

Absolutely!
No other individual (that was not a part of this scam, etc.) can be blamed, not even family members, for Derek's actions. Nor can anyone be blamed for their inability to intervene on behalf of Derek's victims (including the geckos).
As stated, by Diana (Siren), I, too, believe it is just wistful thinking that someone, anyone, could have intervened.

Kris, I appreciate the fact that you chose to post, on this thread, and (as a parent myself) can understand how it must not be easy, on a parent, if/when a son/daughter goes astray, &/or becomes an addict, &/or does something illegal or unethical. Sometimes, this just happens. Even if a child has been raised very well.
Major respect that you are the type of parent that believes their child should answer for their crimes and that does not attempt to excuse their child's misdeeds or protect them from the consequences of their misdeeds.

As far as the geckos go, nobody knows, for sure, what caused their demise.
Aside from direct killing/euthanization, Lack of water would just be one of the quickest reasons for demise. However, we do not know how long the geckos may have gone without feed, what temps there may have been, ... or anything else for that matter. Thus, without facts, people are only left with speculation.
 
Thank you Deb, I appreciate your post. I just completed my first semester of law school so I am about the last person who would make excuses for someone who committed a crime, regardless if they are related to me or not. Derek is a grown man (although admitting that makes me throw up a little in my mouth, lol) and as such, when you make adult decisions, you pay adult consequences. I have been telling him that for 5 years even though I was referring to poor decision-making in terms of girlfriends, the choice not to go back to school, etc. I never thought he would commit crimes or become a drug addict and especially a hard core addict. I have little sympathy for my son as awful as that sounds, and believe he needs to be man enough to stand up and admit to what he has done and pay the price, whatever that might be, for his wrongdoing. Being my son does not, in my eyes, abrogate his responsibility to obey the law. I make no excuses for him because there is no excuse for his behavior. I've been a nurse for 22 years and understand addiction but have always felt that it was ridiculous that a person can blame their behavior on the drugs alleviating their responsibility for their actions. That is ludicrous.

I don't want Derek to be hurt in jail, of course, but it is where criminals belong and God help him, he is a criminal. It breaks my heart but I am a firm believer in the school of hard knocks and am really truly hoping he has finally hit the bottom of the barrell and will take his punishment and use it as a lesson and a tool to eventually re-enter society ready to become a productive, law-abiding citizen.

I am so so so sorry about how all of this has ended, and, I want to take a moment to commend Kris for her honesty and bravery. I would also like to say from personal experience that drug addiction can be very difficult to spot unless you have experience with it, much less from hundreds of miles away. Please do not blame yourself for 'missing the signs'.
 
I just want to let you all know that I have finally spoken to Derek. He is out of jail and after a 2 week, like it or not, detox, is sober. He sounded the best I have heard him in quite some time.

He and I discussed his actions here. He is blaming his exgf for what transpired and whether or not that is true or false is immaterial. I don't care if he did it or she did it or someone else did it, those were Derek's reptiles, the sales were in his name, and he needs to be man enough to make this right. In that light, he has agreed to take responsibility and will contact each of you to make reparations. If you have been wronged and do not hear from Derek within the next couple of weeks, please let me know. I know he has a court date on the 13th and nobody knows what the outcome of that will be so repayment might be slow if he goes back to jail or rehab but I will do everything I can to make sure he follows through.

Thank you for letting us all know about this. I have a really hard time believing this was all his ex-girlfriends doing, for example my purchase from him was done via text message on his cell phone. Others knew him and had other deals with him before all this went down. I do however really hope he is working on getting his life back together, and at the least makes contact with all of us.
 
He promised his grandparents almost the same thing he is now promising...this was over a month ago. It was not anyone but Derek that set up and scammed people. I talked to him on the phone many times even after he was caught selling vc to multiple people. I'm hearing that he is going to try and run off to Florida. I'm not sure how true that is but I wouldn't doubt it one bit. I'm glad you are making an effort to have him right his wrongs but two weeks is not long enought to fix a drug addiction and the way he's lied and used certain things to take advantage of people makes me believe none of us will ever hear from him again.

Kris, I did not mean to sound rude in anyway. I'm just very skeptical that he will contact anyone let alone be able to repay the THOUSANDS of dollars that he stole-especially since hearing he's trying to skip states. I'm just trying to be realistic about it.
 
I understand. I would be skeptical as well. He's not going anywhere and even if he did I would hope he would keep in touch with me. I plan to keep after him about all this, I promise.
 
Hi all,

I have frustrating news. I found out this morning that Derek was re-arrested yesterday. I don't want to get into the details but I don't believe he will be getting out anytime in the near future. I am sorry but this means it doesn't look like I will be able to get any of your money back for quite some time, if at all. I don't know what to say other than I am embarassed and ashamed of his behavior and hope that he receives the help he needs to get off heroin while he is incarcerated. I will of course do whatever I can to help you recover what you have lost, in any way that I can be useful. I am so sorry this is not better news. I was really hoping Derek had learned a lesson and was on the right track.
