In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Desert Enchi Egg Bound Surgery... DUW!

Alan

I in no way have been nasty or short with you. I was making a suggestion based off of your experience. Thats it. No need for you to be an :censored:

Im glad you did what you did...you have taken a step further than most and posted your results unlike most that is a great thing.

thank you

I'm sorry you feel that way. I too was simply making a suggestion. I only have this one Desert gene carrier female and I will not be trying this again.

Hey man great job on that very valuable information. You definitely took it a step or two further than most people. They are beautiful animals that should simply be kept as pets.

Culture results

I'm afraid the results are nondiagnostic. There was light growth of 2 kinds of bacteria. One of which was so light it could not be confirmed. My colleague feels that the light bacterial growth is most likely just a artifact. She is showing no signs of infection of any sort and is doing fantastic !

I received the results via email and it was a scanned version. The report has info on it that I was asked not to make public by my colleague(clinic address and name ). He would like to remain anonymous because this practice only treats dogs and cats and publicity that he treats reptiles at this practice would just create a situation that he isn't prepared for...lol.

UPDATE:
She took a rat chub today and is doing fantastic! Thanks to all of you for your concerns and best wishes!

Thanks for the great post Alan...great to see a "full disclosure" post. With all that's been going on with desert females, posts like this go a long way in helping everyone make informed decisions.

Again thanks for posting this, I wonder if that means desert females will eventually drop in price to be just pet/ display animals.

Do males have any breeding issues?

Its like the spider gene for me, wobble is not a huge deal but I decided not to go that route with any snakes for now.

Just personal.

I have not had issues or heard of major issues in Desert males. I have a Desert male and he bred this year. It took him 3 seasons to figure it out... This is just my experience. Plenty of others have had great success breeding Desert males at a year of age.

We had our desert male breed the first year. He has sired clutches of desert fireflies, desert mojaves, and in the incubator is desert x pinstripe clutch with desert x spider on their way soon. The females we are looking at as possible but not likely to breed so really niice pets. I am taking offers of cash or trade for females, not listing for sale. I may be giving them to my friends as pets. Either way the males breed and the combos are incredable. I guess I just look at a female desert as a normal or base morph. However my desert has gone 4/6 deserts in every clutch so he passes the gene very well.

Thanks for the info. We have a desert female and were told that since she was from a desert x cinnamon there should be no issues with breeding. Guess that's not the case!!

Anyway, you answered any questions we had about this subject. Very interesting and detailed post. Hope she makes a full recovery!!

Awesome post! Not so awesome subject matter for people who own deserts, but, it was great to see the surgery and the results.

A scary situation, but it looks like it's going to turn out okay, so I am thankful for that! And thanks for posting this info, too; I wish more people were so forthcoming.
