In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy DO NOT deal with JAMES EARL !!!!

I personally knew the OP, also why he is rather "heated" so to speak. I'd rather not post what his intentions were because it's not my place to do so. As far as posting James' cell number, if it were me i would be alot more then just mad. Personally i think this thread should just be locked and brought up into the discussion forum, or transfered their if possible.

I dont think the BOI is a good fit for you as you are obviously clueless. The bolded sections confuse me.

To the OP, common sense say's, you don't hear from a person 2 day's prior to a sale, you probly, pROLLLLY should'nt drive 50 minutes with a trailor, especially on a deal (you said yourself) sounded too good to be true.

In this case, I don't beleive the deal was too good to be true, because he did sell the animals and the OP found out who he sold them to. Someone just simply got a great deal on some animals.

How am i clueless? Because im not blasting over the internet what the OP's intentions were? as to why he is so pissed? I know exactley why, but i refuse to post it here as its not my place to do so. Like i stated before. Also, how is me saying this bad guy thread is pointless and should be locked confuse you? Sounds to me like your the one that shouldn't be posting...

Why would you make a 50 minute drive out there not knowing if the guy was even at home or not? That's just dumb. I'm sorry, Mr. Earl should've thought to inform you on fauna that the group had sold already, but you can't blame him for wasting your time when you elected to waste it yourself. Supposing that Mr. Earl had been at home AND had the animals ready... If I was selling this group and you showed up on my doorstep unannounced I would have turned you away, $500 or not.

Also, by saying his intentinos i mean are that of what to be done with the animals ... not intentions towards James.

I think we get it...as far as his intentions that you refuse to state here, there are only so many ways he could go with his purchase had it gone through. Could be that Bryan is pissed because he feels he missed out on making a few hundred $$. He wouldn't be the first person to buy out a collection at rock bottom prices only to turn it right over for profit, and he wouldn't be the last. That's only IF that was his intention. Point is, he's sore over missing out on a purchase by not acting quickly enough...and then went against all leanings of common sense and proceeded to go through with the purchase anyway after not hearing from James for 2 days.

Honestly, he burnt himself on this one...IMO.

If I made a new bad guy thread everytime someone disappeared after "we" made a deal I would probably be on here starting a new thread 2 or 3 times a week. I no longer hold any animals without a deposit. Not really sure this thread was needed as it sounds llike OP was upset he missed out on a great deal.

Got my truck and trailer ready, got a friend to help, gtt the snake room ready to accept 8 more cages etc......

Just a note to the OP, especially if you already have enough animals to have a snake room. Quarantine is essential. It's obvious you had no plans to do this with the snakes you were going to purchase. If you don't quarantine, it's not a matter of if, but when it will bite you in the rear. I (and many others) would not buy from someone who doesn't do so...

@April, I have a 3200sqft house with 3 snake rooms. One for my personal exotics, one for venomous, and one for quarintine. I am the VP for a local rescue group and would never mix new snakes or fosters with my personal collection. As for this post, I have the right to express my feelings about how I feel about what happened with my situation. Some agree and some disagree. That is our right as Americans. I felt the deal was done and it didnt turn out in my favor, lesson learned for me. Thanks for everyones opinions and comments.

It sure is.
And this is what I get from it. You found an awesome deal. You lost contact with the seller. He lost contact with you. Meanwhile someone showed up at his house to pick up the snakes before you. And now you are mad because you missed out. That was not the seller's fault. Things happen. Apparently they better not happen while you are around. That makes you a very scary customer. Perhaps a customer that will never be satisfied. Just my feeling. After all, look at this thread. Posted way too soon? NOPE. Should not have been posted at all.

I would understand if he was a scammer. But he really had the snakes and really sold them to someone else.

What makes him a bad guy? Does miscommunication make him a bad guy? Truly a scary customer indeed.

lol you're mad because he sold to someone who could pay and pick up everything sooner when he had to leave asap? get real, quit being so damn selfish.

One little thing that would have eliminated this scenario entirely: a DEPOSIT. If you're absolutely certain you want the animals, but can't get them right away, make a deposit to hold them! Unfortunately, sellers hear all the time from people who really want, must have, definitely ARE going to buy an animal, but who then flake out (often after the seller has turned other buyers away).

The OP and seller both sound (at least in the early part of the thread, which is all I have read thus far) like more or less reasonable people who had a misunderstanding. Courtesy wasn't extended to the buyer where it could have been, but he had to know he was taking a chance driving an hour when his calls had gone unanswered for two days. Finally, it is generally understood that when someone is offering a closeout deal, the first person to show up with cash in hand is going to win. It would probably have nipped this problem in the bud if the OP had PayPaled a deposit to prove his intentions.

What a funny story we have here! It was only by chance that I happened upon this thread after doing a search for 'James Earl's' cell number.... after some curious incidents in my dealings with him. Oh, and I knew him by 'Brian Lee,' but for the sake of clarity I will stick with James.
On Aug. 19th, James contacted me in regards to some baby coral cobras I had hatched out. Said he had been looking for a baby aspidelaps. He had never worked with them and heard they were great first elapids. After working out a deal, we decided to meet on Aug. 23rd. We planned to meet near Jame's home in Chesapeake, VA. My boyfriend, Kris, carried the baby coral cobra to work with him, as we would not have time to go home and pick it up before the prearranged meeting time. At 5pm, James sent me an email saying that his wife wrecked their car and he *may not* be able to meet. I offered to bring him the snake. He gave me his address, and said he may not have the money.. he needs to dig around for it. He did not have the money. Funny thing is, he gave me the same address that he gave to Bryan Hines. I did not look into the address at this time, as there was no reason to go there if he did not have the money for the snake. He sent the address again, at a later date. funny thing is, he tells Bryan that he moved out of this house around Aug. 10th. It was TWICE after this date that he sent me the same address. A foreclosed house.
Okay, fine, stuff happens. So we agreed to meet up again another time. Little bit of time wasted and a little stress to the snake, no big deal.
Through email, we tried to work out another time to meet. James had many issues with transportation and being out of time, but we were finally able to work out a date - Aug 28th. On that date, he said he had the $150 for the snake..... EXCEPT he had spent $25 on pizza. He also said he wanted to buy a rattlesnake from me. So, I compromised and told him that we could give him the coral cobra for $125. When he wanted the rattlesnake, we would settle it for $75.
On Aug 28th, we met. We talked for a good bit, and I felt much better after meeting him. He seemed a bit wishy washy with all these problems, but in person he seemed much more trustworthy. He mentioned to me that he kept nearly every species of N.A. rattlesnakes so i asked about ridge-nosed rattlers. He told me, Oh yes, I have two pairs of those. A friend of mine gave me them for free. I mentioned that I be very interested in them, asked for pictures and what not. James proceeded to tell me that he was not very comfortable in the captive care for these snakes and would be willing to give them to me. Needless to say, I was very excited!
So, James sent me the pictures. Turned out that two of the snakes were massasaugas. He apologized for the picture he sent, saying that they did not like to sit still and were hard to photograph... implying that he took the pictures, yeah? A quick browse on venomland, and you can see these pictures too! The animals belong to Chaim Haveman in the netherlands. He posted the exact same pictures that I received about two years ago.
The other pictures were of a C. lepidus morulus and a willardi. I've yet to find the willy picture, but the morulus belongs to Benjamin Tull in Germany, who assures me that he still has this snake in his possession. I only recently found these pictures.
So since this conversation, I've been attempting to meet up with James since he sent these pictures. Every time, its been something. He spends a lot of time in Richmond (so he says). Or his wife is gone, and he can't meet.. Excuses for everything. I live 20minutes away from you, guy!
Then, a friend of mine was selling a neotropical rattler. I hit James up and let him know, in case he was interested. They worked out a deal and James was going to buy the snake.
I talked to James on Oct. 2nd. He agreed to meet when he returned home from Richmond, and claimed to have taken all four with him up Richmond. He said he'd be leaving around 6pm. That would put him back in my area around 8pm. I texted him multiple times around 8pm to find out where he was and where he wanted to meet. No answer. At 10:30pm, James sends me an email - my text is working, but I'm in the area. Where do you want to meet?
I told him to stop somewhere and let me know where - I'd be there in 10min at most. After this, I boxed up the rattlesnake and hopped in the car. I drove down the road and pulled over in the area that James claimed he was, waiting for him to email again and let me know where he was. Never got an answer. I went home.
I talked to my friend with neotropical rattlesnake the next day. He told me that James had come to the petstore (which is in our area... not richmond), at 5:30pm Oct. 2nd. James had told me he was in Richmond all day. Not only that, but my friend from the petstore was receiving texts from James the evening of Oct. 2nd and during the day on the 3rd. Even funnier, James picked up the neotropical, but oh shoot.. didn't have enough money! He promised my friend at the pet store that he would return with the money. He also told this friend that he had bred coral cobras (if you remember, James told me he had NEVER had an elapid, that this coral cobra was going to be his first. He even asked me for details on captive care) and would sell him on for $50. Weird...
I don't understand whats up with James Earl/Brian Lee. Seems like he just likes to give people the run around. I see no truth to his claim that he has the four snakes he sent me pictures of... so why offer them to me for free?
James Earl/Brian Lee is a pathological liar. If you want to waste your time and money, by all means, deal with him. Furthermore, another hot keeper made a deal with him and was screwed over: http://www.venomousreptiles.org/classifieds/detail/33993
I wish to warn my fellow herpers of southernboy A.K.A.([email protected]) who has posted here in the past and even now.
I after several emails with the southernboy worked out a trade and then I drove to VA to do the exchange and he didn't give me the correct adress. Also the name on he gave on the phone was wrong, he has refused my emails afterward. But I see he wants to purchase or trade. For your own protection do not do buisness with this person. If you can tell me his real adress or name I would appreaciate it.

This was marked by the originator on Sep 13, 2011 as being sold.

I know this is the same person that Bryan Hines dealt with, as the phone numbers are the same, and the fake address is the same. Watch out for this guy.

Nicole, first i have no idea who you are but Brian is my brother and he keeps some of his snakes at least his hots at my house. Now i don't know what has happened between the two of you but it is not with me. I have been on here for a while and have not had any problems. If you have a problem with brian then you need to take it up with brian. If you have a problem with me then please tell me what it is as to my knowledge i have never met you. James

FWIW, I've dealt with James once and he was where he said he would be, when he said he would be. No BS was involved and he busted his tail to meet my time scheduling.

Thanks Nick i appreciate that. brian and i have had our own problems but he is my brother and i will stick up for him right or wrong. he ah, well he is what he is but a brothers love is a brothers love so what can i do.

james
