    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Man, it is really sad how this situation has played itself out. As an active member of RTB.net and a good personal friend of Donnie & Michelle's, I can assure you that even though a couple of the admins are acting foolish, that does not mean all of them are like that. Mr. & Mrs. Smith are two of the most honest and upstanding people I have had the honor of knowing. I in no way shape or form believe that they had anything to do with the shenanigans that have taken place recently. Brett and Eddie are a disgrace to RTB.net and the herp community as a whole.

I know I have had my share of conflicts on some of the forums around the net, but never have I ever dreamed of taking things this far. I hope we can see an end to all of this and I hope nobody gets injured (in any way) along the way.

You thread was moved to our "bad post pile". This area was setup so that all admins and mods can view posts that have been deemed unacceptable by another admin or mod.

When I saw that your thread was there, I responded that I am going to leave it there for 24 hours in order to allow the person who moved it to provide a really good explanation about why it was moved. If none is provided, I will move it back personally tomorrow night.

I wish I had an easy answer to give you on this issue, but I don't at this time. I am working toward a resolution of this issue.

I, among others, have spoken personally to Shane about this. He said his only recourse is to remove them both from Admin status. He did this while on the phone with me. He doesn't like to do this as they are two of the more knowledgable people on the site. But their actions reflect on RTB as a whole, and he doesn't want that either. So... this was the lesser of the two evils. He will be on here shortly to post his feelings on the matter.

I want to publically first say that what was said by the 2 admins from my site does not in anyway reflect the thoughts of Redtailboa.net.

I also want to applologize. Even though I can't control what they did, I can control who is a admin on my site. And with the admin status comes the responsibilty of being professional and upholding the Redtailboa.net name.

Opinions are opinions and I never have issues with that. Opinions are wanted and welcome on Redtailboa.net, but personal attacks are not. I also will not tolerate a admin taking force in publically trying to hurt a person or his business.

Respect is the key here. I know alot of Webwars go on in this site and thats one of the main reasons why I never come here. Its not my thing :)

But I just want to let everyone here know that I am sorry if admins from my site disrespected you. And please do not make a judgement of Redtailboa.net because of 2 bad eggs.
 
My Experience With Dr. Jay Owens

We did a trade last summer and I received an exceptional tiger het albino retic from him. He even provided me with pics of the animal taken by Steve Gooch! Wow, what's not to be excited about that? The animal is absolutely stunning and a future breeder in my collection. It was a pleasure dealing with Dr. Owens and I look forward to doing so again.

I have to agree with Shane I hope no one thinks differantly of his site due to these guys. I have spoken with Shane on the phone in the past and emailed I know he only wants the best for his site and people using it. On top of what these to idiots have done to Jay, they also put Shane in a very awkward and uncomfortable position, I am sure. I am sure everyone sees all this for what it is, Shane is doing some great things with his site I only wish the days were 30 hrs so I had enough time to spend and contribute on more of the sites I like. Anyway I just wanted to second what Shane was saying.

I just glanced through everything and find it unfortunate that I haven't followed Dr. Owens' postings and gotten familiar with him or his collection before now. But the depths of human ignorance and insecurity still seem to amaze me...and they shouldn't by now.

I had no idea that Dr. Jay was trained (not to mentioned licensed) as a medical doctor. In this day and age with herpetology becoming a more common side of the biological sciences, I would not have been suprised to see a Ph.D. or Ed.D instead of a D.O. attatched to his name. For that matter, he could easily have been an attorney which, with the completion of Law School, earns the degree of Juris Doctorate or have gone a further step and received a second doctorate in the law which is generally required to teach in many law schools across this country. Heck, there are so many different degrees which culminate in at least one conference of a doctoral degree that nothing would have suprised me much...the fact that the good doctor is actually a medical doctor was probably the most shocking of all.

Why in the world an ignorant (read as "without opportunity to gain knowledge") person would choose to troll the BOI with nonsense like this just amazes me. Good to see you here Doc, and looking forward to meeting you one of these days.

Harsh tone? Dr. Owens, you have shown incredible restraint. I would of been in jail by now for assault. Maybe with intent. I can tell you will be a real asset to the BOI. lol
 
Being an outsider to all of this I have merely watched in disgust and silence, whilst making the decision to steer well clear of RTB.net and any of it's doings.

The mature and responsible actions taken by the owners and responsible members of RTB.net have now led me to reconsider that decision. Actions speak louder than words.

Are they still Admins of RTB.net and if so why ? if i missed the part of releiving them of there duties i apologize.With Knowledge and the power they have/had on your site comes Judgement and the line that they should be held to follow should be straight unless a personal attack on the site as a whole is made and then rebutal should be held in high esteem to uphold integrity of the site they represent. To censor a post made in good faith that reflects badley on a person/s that dont want to be looked at by peers as ( bad apples) because what they have done is wrong in more then one way if there going to step up to accusations such as this then they should be stripped of the power of admin or any position of the site and i think a banning of the site would be poetic justice .someone who will stoop to that level cannot at all reflect good to the site as a whole .

Again if I missed the dismissal of the two in question im sorry and this was in no way a rip on you or RTB as a whole

Thanks for the update and for your action in this situation. To be perfectly honest, I do not envy your position in this situation at all. Personally, I would be furious if someone I trusted created these kinds of headaches for me. I think that the bottom line is this...some people have the mentality/personality/maturity it takes to be moderators/admins and some do not. Knowledge is an important prerequisite to leadership on a forum, but it is not everything...in my opinion, character is more important.

To everyone else,
It appears that the two individuals who are responsible for the recent events that we have witnessed here and on the BCF should not be viewed as representatives of RTB.net. It is these same persons who have had a history of posting libel and defamation against respected breeders and members of the herp community on RTB. Since it is now appears that their actions were in conflict with the attitudes and wishes of the owner (Shane), let's please refrain from bad mouthing his forum while he is working hard to straighten out the mess that these former admins have created for him.

(To those reading both forums, yes...I pretty much copied my BCF post here...I was feeling lazy, but I wanted to ask people from both forums to give Shane (and RTB) a break. ;))
 
Likewise, I'll echo what Jay has said. The actions that should reflect on RTB are the manner in which Shane, Donnie, and Michelle have handled this fracas.

RTB is a pretty good site, and I've been a member since '01. Given the way that they've handled this fracas, my membership is going to stay active.

It is a funny picture but why make the matter go on?

I say we all sweep this under the rug. If you can't let it go then why not do it via email or PM with the member?

What was said in the past was said in the past. People can look it up and make there own judgements. Why stir it all back up?

Forgive me if I seem to easy going. I just hate wars and hate fighting. I want to see the whole reptile community working together to make things right. I want to educate all the people out there that think reptiles are evil or anything else that has brought a bad taste to the business of reptiles.
 
Well it looks like there needs to be a thorough housecleaning over at RTB.net. Evidently the disgruntled ex-mods have enough friends who are still mods that they can convince to log in & remove other user's accounts. My account, along with Donnie & Michelle's were all deleted last night.

Pretty lame...it's a shame to see folks acting so childish after their behavior has been exposed to the rest of the community.

Shane - man you had this problem before with mods and admins, and not all that long ago. This is a perfect example about why I am just not willing to entrust moderator rights to just anyone on here and to keep the numbers down to the very bare minimum. It's far too dangerous for your site to do it otherwise.

My opinion is that such responsibilities should not be granted to people just because they are your friends or in an attempt to get them to bring traffic to your site. You need to have people who have a genuine interest in helping your site be their home and help out in keeping it a decent place for them, as well as others, to go to.

My suggestion? Clean house and start over. Do most of the work yourself and be very selective about who you grant the powers to potentially destroy what you have built. If you piss off some of your friends because you will NOT allow them to be mods, then so be it. Treat it like a business, even if it is only a hobby for you. You are the CEO, so act accordingly.

My opinion, of course. I am only offering what my gut feeling says is needed to be done.

I really hope Shane is able to get this worked out. For every person over at RTB.net that leaves a bad taste in someone's mouth, there are at least another two members packed full of good info that people overlook because of the "bad apples." Kind of a once bitten, twice shy sort of thing.

I've had several conversations with Shane regarding this whole fiasco since it started & really feel for him - he has put a lot of hard work and effort into his site and runs it at a loss each month just to provide a herp-friendly, education-oriented environment online. It is my sincerest wish that all of these troubles will be handled swiftly and the site is able to return to Shane's original purpose for it: education & information.

Hang in there Shane.
