Hey guys,
I just came across this conversation and figured I should jump in and address some of the comments and clarify any misconceptions you guys might have had. I am not a breeder and have never claimed to be.
I am just an individual who has been raising and collecting them for many years. Some I've raised myself, others I have purchased. I am not doing this full time, I have a career and family that take up most of my time. This is the reason I don' have a facebook page or website. I haven't been selling any of mine for quite a while, and am only now looking to make room for new ones I have. Usually when I'm posting an ad it's early in the morning or in between work or family. Grammatical errors happen due to the limited amount of time I happen to have at that moment. The way they are phrased is merely to draw interest by being a little different. I do this for fun, not as a business, though I know the breed well and take the animals in my care very seriously. If the dragon is a little under weight, has a nipped tail or toe, or has any other imperfection I am upfront about it and clearly call it out. The price I am charging for these particular ones is also reflected in the condition and I often state what the original price was. The way the comments read, it's as if I wasn't upfront about this and I tried passing something off as "perfect condition" when it wasn't. I have many others that are in perfect condition and it states just that. I have some for breeding, some for collecting, and some that my kids are raising If the dragons look familiar, it is either because I reposted it or it happens to look like another one I have from the same bloodline.
I have a lot of them, so having ones that are similar is not uncommon for me. I am certified to ship through FedEx and UPS, but have had people in the past that wanted the cheapest available shipping and that happened to be USPS. I personally would not choose this route in the interest of saving a few bucks, but not everyone feels the same way. I present options, i don't dictate to people how they should spend their money. The ones I have shipped that way arrived without any problems, so it's an option I am open to if the person knows the differences and risks up front.
As for another person/company that inserts themselves into the conversation when they too are a seller, well, that seems a little self serving and in poor taste in my opinion. If someone is asking if you can vouch for someone and I haven't communicated with or done any form of business with you then this is just your opinion which is based off of very little. Putting down my dragons doesn't make yours better, and frankly says more about you than me. I'm not out here contacting people asking them to buy my dragons, they contacted me. I understand that you are running a business and therefore have a more professional look to your
business and some of the dragons I might be selling you wouldn't want your name attached to. Some are great for certain purposes such as breeding or to get started...nothing else. The thing is, I haven't had any complaints from people that have actually received a dragon and there have been no misconceptions as to what they bought.
The people that have contacted me in the short time I have been on here have gotten my full attention and have been able to correspond with me at all times of day. I've taken time to get any information that was ever asked for whether it be pictures, bloodlines, weights, etc. I gave out my personal email address as well. If my intention was to scam people I would only communicate through fauna and take the first offer I received. I've turned down many offers if I didn't think it was the right fit or right scenario. I'm more interested in them going to the right home rather than for the right price. These are my pets, so where they go takes precedence.
I haven't been asked for references in quite awhile, and would never give out a buyers personal information without checking with them first. At the end of the day, this is a transaction between two total strangers and there is some blind trust involved. I've taken the steps available to me to try and alleviate any concerns upfront. As we know, Paypal allows for disputes between buyer and seller, and has a fiduciary responsibilty to protect both parties to the transaction. I send out the tracking number after the package is picked up, ask if the buyer wants insurance or a signature upon delivery to protect them as well. I have never pressured someone to send money, and never will. In some cases, I've refunded money and didn't ship one or more dragons when i thought it didn't look ready to ship just to avoid any future problems down the line. I will not quote any shipping prices to someone until I know what/how many items are being purchased and where there shipping zip code is since the price can vary. A business might have flat rates available to them, I do not. Therefore, the price changes with the buyer. I have stated that I only ship monday through wednesday, so if someone says they want a dragon "this week" or ask how quickly they'll get it, I will try and let them know this. Also, if I have other shipments I am already doing, it is helpful on my end to be able to do it all at once. I have to know in advance to be able to prepare them for shipping and schedule the pick up. All of this takes planning to fit it into my work schedule.
I normally wouldn't take the time to write this lengthy of a response, but I was surprised to read some of the comments on here from professional businesses and one buyer who I felt I had a good reproir with. I didn't respond to get into a back and forth, but welcome all comments or questions. I haven't been in the reptile community for some time, but don't remember it being so unwelcoming to a perceived newcomer. I feel that we are all on here for the same reasons, which is our interest in the dragons? I'm a very honest and open person, so if you ever have a question, please feel free to ask me. This was meant to clarify some facts not to change any opinions.
I wish you all well and look forward to working with all/some of you in the future if given the opportunity.
