ELITEXOTICS has this animal for sale on KS as we speak, I am posting this because of the horrible conditions this animal is kept. I will reply with the entire ad as well as a pic of the snake they are selling.

In Mike's Defense....

I know MIKE BOCCIA of ELITEXOTICS for years and I am a little familiar with the story behind that ball so I will shed some light.

That ball was picked up by Mike B. from ELITEXOTICS last year. It was owned by a kid in Long Island who had WAY TOO MANY animals for him to keep GOOD care of. The photo was taken by the kid and forwarded to Mike when first making the deal. Mike should not have posted that picture, but being that he lends out his camera alot, I can kindof see why. Even still it was a bad choice to use the pic. Mike has few snakes, mostly Geckos, Ackies, Uros and Beardeds, but the ones he has are all in CLEAN blanket boxes, w/ heat tape and water. He rarely visits any forums, so I doubt he is even aware of this post. I will have him email me a pic of the animals current enclosure so I can post it. Being that I know he is good herper and takes good care of his animals, I would hate to see a bad pic give him an ugly reputation.

Just my 2 cents.

Shaggy,

If you speak up for him, that encourages me a bit. However, a new picture would be a MUST in my opinion.

No picture at all would have been better than using that one! Not very good judgment being shown there by Mike, I must say.

I thank you Marvin for letting your friend know that this thread is here.

I agree with Darin in the fact that Mike used VERY poor judgement in deciding to post this pic.

Ummm Ok...

Sorry about being so stupid some times. But other then the DUCT TAPE and the melted plastic "dirty" tubby thing I'm not sure what you all are talking about over all. There is no feces, no smelly dead rat, the snake looks in over all good health, the stuff in the tank looks like aspen and not cedar, and it's better then what I've seen in some pet stores. IMHO it just looks like someone who doesn't know a lot about snakes.

Because trust me I've seen other photos on KS and on here where there are leos or snakes and there is fecal matter in the shoe box or sweater container with the animal.

Like I said maybe I'm just stupid because I don't understand

Apology accepted

So no water is ok?

When I lived in FL my nieghbor used duct tape on boards to trap snakes.

The water dish seems as it has been empty for some time.

You KNOW

You know this is a water dish?

Seems kinda silly to me to think you know what something is.

And rudeness is so UNBECOMING.

In fairness, we can't see the other side of the tank. It doesn't look like its much larger than shown, but who knows.

The real photos!!

To all of you who were so concerned.

I just received new pics from Mike today. Mike was a little surprised at first that this had become as large as it did, but did admit poor judgment and a little haste in using the bad photo. The first pic is of the snake in question and the second is of one of his females housed right next to the male. If a picture is a thousand words then I don't need to say anything else.

PS. Mike will be adding his comments to the thread later this week.

The snakes obviously look fine. This appears to simply be a case of a picture speaking 1,000 of the wrong words, here.

I would not have used that original pic, though. The duct tape is noxious to snakes and causes damage to scales when it adheres to them. The water dish appears to be almost completely empty (I think you can see the remnants of a puddle in the right hand side) and containing dampened "stuff" in it. I **think** that picture shows almost all of the cage, because the cross stick appears to be wedged against the bottom of the right glass panel for support.

Does that pic alone make a seller look like a bad guy? I don't think so, but if that were representative of how he kept his snakes, it would make me question his husbandry practices, if that was him putting his "best" foot forward.

Live and learn, Huh?

Thank you Darin

First of all I didn't know duct tape was noxious to snakes, nore did I even think of it takeing off scales. That might be a water dish I will grant that. Just one of those things that makes me wonder.

And please don't take any of the above as a back handed coment or me trying to be cheeky.

I honestly don't know that much about snakes, so when I ask questions alot of times I feel stupid on this board for even asking. I feel like if I don't have the answer and I do ask I get treated like a dunce.

And I guess I'm just one of those people that likes to give people a fair chance to let good things over come the bad.

just my .02 cents

my two cents

We recently purchased two LARGE female malis from Mike and they were in great shape. They were extremely heathly and well taken care of. I can't speak for his snakes or know much about them either...but we were extremely happy with the mali's.

I agree that the other pic wasn't the best, but I think the new pics show he takes care of his animals.

Just my two cents.

Christa,

No problems here! I certainly wasn't upset by your questions, nor did I think you a "dunce" in any way at all!

I too want the good to overcome the bad, but I have just seen too many fly-by-night deals get posted on classified sites. I suppose we tend to assume the worst some times. Oh well, I am just glad that this is not one of those instances, after all!

;)

Thanks for your information Marvin. I could see that the water dish (yup, I knew it was a water dish off the bat) was empty and also the use of duct tape in that photo. I posted it here when I saw it because to me, this was grounds for a bad guy post just due to the very poor conditions the snake was kept.

Im glad you informed you friend and cleared this up. In no way do I think he is a bad guy, I just think he could have thought a little more before he posted that sad pic.

No harm done, and thanks again.

P.S. tell your friend he (the snake) looks great now and he seems to have a nice setup for the snakes he keeps.

so when I ask questions alot of times I feel stupid on this board for even asking

No reason to feel stupid at all, but I knew that the "tubby thing" was in fact the water dish. This is the reason I saw your response as odd.

Seems kinda silly to me to think you know what something is.
Its not silly at all, I would not have started this thred if I didnt know what that dish was for.

If you read through some of the posts here, some questions will seem very odd, There is no reason to feel like a dunce as asking questions if alot of what this board is about. I know I asked 1,000s when I started keeping snakes and still to this day I seem to constantly ask for others advice.

Sorry if it seems like I jumped on you Christa, but I took your initial response as a kind of insult. I am very bothered by people that keep animals and do not care for them properly. And when you asked what was so bad about that snake in the first photo it kinda struck a nerve.

I hope this doesnt sour your thoughts about this board, because it really is the BEST spot for askings for others advice and sharing info.
