    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Ember gecko....

You are right I made the mistake of not calling him. I should have called him. The gecko is continuing to go down hill and has seen my vet many times. The vet now has me feeding her emeraide carnivore on top of wax and super worms. The animal is sick in a way my vet doesn't understand. This vet deals with all my geckos not just the sick one from embergecko and is sure this is not a housing issue. Nor is it a diet issue. However the genetics where questioned when I test bred the male emberglow to my female ember. And got a banded baby. I am upset that the emberglows do not seem to be het ember and I am working on saving the sunglow.
 
Thanks for the answers. The genetics of his animals is a giant issue. I can't stress that enough. But the other issues can't be forgotten about because he's throwing bs into the mix. Is there a chance the ember was already gravid from another animal? Making the possibility of different genetics?

No there was no chance of the ember coming it to contact with any of my other males. She is in a bin that houses her and her daughter from last year. And yes her daughter is definitely a female. I introduced the male emberglow and the female ember for one pairing in a separate bin. They where together for about 20 mins supervised while they did the deed. Then both animals went back to their separate bins.

Given the recurring issue of a few people receiving females that rapidly progress to being gravid upon arrival, despite 'never being with a male', and going on to produce offspring without being paired after arrival, I'd say its a rather fair possibility.

But he's also already stated that "emberglow" are just Ember x Sunglow. So just trempers het eclipse/MP, glorified for marketing purposes.
 
The female ember glow (also housed separately) did lay me some fertile eggs. I was not horribly up set by this. However the ember in question did not come from James it was my ember that I bred from a snow TPA het eclipse to a tremper het mp het eclipse. She was my lucky baby they only produced 6 eggs and that was the only ember in them I got tpas and snow tpas from it and one ember. So I guess I am just upset this was my embers second season and I was hoping to see if I could breed orange embers just a experiment I wanted to try.

Dillon, that's why I brought it up. He also said after of course it had patternless genes, making his word on the genetics very questionable.
How long can Leo's retain sperm? I know some species can retain it well over a year. Sorry for my ignorance, but I've never worked with Leo's like we're talking about.
 
I have never had a gecko retain from one full season onto the next the ember in question gave me 10 eggs last year almost all of them being pattys. Which is why I wanted to get a new ember male in the first place.

There have been claims as to retention through to the following breeding season, but not enough of a collective sample size to give a definite, nor confident, answer, from what I've seen.

The larger issue is that the females I mention are ones that are not of a size that should have ever been bred, so sperm retention should not even be in question.

That being said, how old/large was your female upon purchase, Nikki? (apologies if it was stated earlier and I skimmed past it)
 
The female ember glow was I think 50gs when I received her she has since lost weight but is not in a danger zone. She is also laying longer between lays so I am thinking she is almost done this season not all of her eggs where furtile
 
Nikki my females were sick in a way my vet didn't understand either until he did surgery on the least one. He said he'd never seen reproductive organs that looked like that. I notice he completely ignored my account of what happened to my geckos. Whoever has the female that refused to eat be VERY careful ever trying to breed her. Do a pole on your FB gecko sites. You will find multiple people who had females that did not survive breeding or that they never got babies out of before they died. I have geckos from 8 different lines here breeding. I have NEVER lost a female (knock on wood) to breeding issue in fact I've never lost a baby gecko so far. Geckos leave here because I produced them for sale or I'm done with that genetics or because I changed my mind about keeping them.
 
I see two separate issues here.

1) unknown/unproven genetics being further confused by an incredibly poor choice in line name by James

2) repeated reports of failure-to-acclimate/failure-to-thrive geckos that have been sold by James

Genetics aside, if I had more than one person report to me within a year that their geckos had trouble adjusting/acclimating; I would probably be going back and checking my husbandry/gutloading/maintenance schedules. If nothing else but to try to pin down what variable may have changed that I possibly overlooked.

I'm terribly curious as to what all goes into the gutload James uses and if perhaps this is something everyone can learn from, i.e., not do in the future. I make my own gutload as well, so I'm interested on that level.
 
I guess my idea of being a responsible breeder is had someone contacted me that had spent over $1000 and ended up with virtually nothing I would have sent them something. they are geckos for Christ sakes not race horses where you only get one a year if you're lucky. I raised and showed Netherland dwarf rabbits for many years. I had very nice stock. I won my share of shows. Unlike Geckos quality Netherland dwarfs often only have 2-3 babies a litter. I didn't have many complaints about about rabbits that came from me but when I did it was easier to replace them and continue to have good rapport in the community then to be a jerk and try to put the blame back on the back buyer. I didn't know how the animal was treated and if that's why it was mean but I guess I didn't care. I wanted people to be comfortable and happy with their and happy purchases. that is how you build a reputation and have repeat buyers.
 
Have had great service from Embergecko

I have read all the comments regarding Embergecko. I have had 4 different transactions with James. I have emailed James with questions on genetics of my geckos that I have bought more than a year ago. I have visited James' breeding facility. I have met James' family during the visit.

James has always been professional. He responds to all of my emails the first time in a timely manner. (Timely in a day or two, I don't expect him to be waiting for my emails.) I had a question of possible het on one of my geckos and he confirmed the genetics and I proved it out in breeding.

I bought 2 giant possible super giant females and 2 giant possible super giant males from him. I have had 2 good seasons from the females and 1 male and 1 good season (this season) from the other male I bought last year.

My first giant male I was concerned because he didn't adapt as quickly as the female I bought from him a couple of weeks later. He responded to all emails. My male didn't eat like "I" wanted him too. He didn't get thin or lose weight just didn't grow. This was my fault. I was always checking on him, bugging him to eat and probably not giving him his time to adjust. He is big and healthy but didn't hit giant weight in the first 12 months. However, about half of his offspring to a normal female hit giant weight in 6 to 8 months. They looked fantastic. I am on Facebook and iherp if you want to see pictures of offspring.

Genetics- You have Phenotype, what you see from the genetics and Genotype, what the genetics are. You can have a genotype supergiant that has a phenotype of a normal or giant. Outside forces and luck can influences this positively and negatively.

I have had 4 different sales transactions with James and have no complaints. I have had offspring from all 4 of the geckos I have bought from him and have no complaints. Some of them looking freaking fantastic. He answered all of my emails. He let me visit his home and I met his family.

He has 2 websites. He isn't hiding or tricking anyone. He list each site on his sites. He list the genetics of his geckos on his pages.

When you read through the post to this thread and other threads, the Board of Inquiry seems to turn into a witch hunt.

As far as this one goes, perhaps things would have gone differently had James decided to be professional, & consistent, rather than play games.:shrug01:

SO glad I read this thread. I was looking at his site weeks ago actually considering to buy a gecko from him. Will never do so. I have seen so many breeders with no complaints. and if they do have complaints they will always be nice and work it out.

Just because his site is getting more views does not mean his sales are up.. i went on the site to read about his genetics and remind myself what the site looked like so I would never buy from him. In any case, the dude is a jerk and even if someone has perfect geckos I wouldnt want to do business with someone who isnt respected nor respectful.

Keep on pushing through with your projects all and dont let people like this stop you or get you down.
 
Jon Dewberry, phenotype can be impacted by diet and environment. I think it's interesting that you're convinced that the failure-to-thrive/grow regarding your one male was somehow a fault of your provided environment. It may be that frequent checks weren't helping, I don't know. But I don't think you should be so quick to blame yourself.

Did James tell or show you what's in his gutload? I'm still curious. I've come to believe the gutloading practices may be the problem. And it's not a problem that isn't addressable, if Janes were willing to reassess his own methods. Diet and environment impacting health and phenotype is where you get into epigenetics. Most people are not interested in epigenetics (but I am).

In any case, he's shown himself to be rude and unprofessional, here. I'm glad he wasn't with you, but I'm afraid his own words are speaking for themselves, here.
