    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Good Guy "Eric Ivins" of "South Central Herpetological", extremely impressed.

Perhaps some people expect that they can come onto a business forum and have complete freedom to be as unrestrained, ugly, loud, and nasty as possible.
I suppose there are places on the internet that cater to those kinds of people.

Of course, no matter where one goes, one's lizard which apparently arrived fine, can't be brought back to life.
RIP, little lizard :(

Well during my ban I received my savannah monitor from reptile city. It actually was the size it stated on the website unlike mr. eric ivins. I changed the substrate and cleaned the enclosure really well so that my new monitor didn't get whatever parasite that came with the savannah from eric. My new monitor literally ate within 15 mins of being put in the cage(same set up as the bad monitor eric ivins sent me) After 1 month of handling EVERY day my monitor is quite tame and enjoys being handled. He was "stressed" the first couple of times I held him, but guess what? he still ate EVERYTHING I put in front of him.

So to some it all up, you guys were entirely wrong, my handling didnt stress the monitor to the point of death, nor did my enclosure set up have anything to do with it dying. So all you people that were hating on the guy that got sold a 18" "hatchling" monitor that died in two weeks and refused to eat anything, were not so knowledgable after all..especially you Richsballpythons-how about you stick to the dumb, easy to care for snakes like ball pythons instead of chiming in on something you have no idea about. FACE!

I just read this entire fascinating thread and I believe Kevin is actually correct about that monitor. No way that savannah was a hatchling at that size. It was likely at least a yearling, and a wild caught yearling. It was doomed before Kevin ever received it. Likely dehydrated and extremely stressed from god knows how long it was stuck in a box with 100's of other wild caught lizards long before it even entered the US. If you want to keep monitors, try to buy captive born from reputable breeders. There are a few. 99% of wild caught savannahs, niles and water monitors are dead within a year of captivity. They are cheap, disposable pets. And that is too bad.

Thank you so much tim, you are literally the only one out of this whole group of idiots that hasn't berated me and attacked my husbandry saying it was MY fault the lizard died in 2 weeks. Well tell that to my savannah thats sitting in the same setup and eats/drinks like a pig.

I'm always glad to know something about the character of people that are reasonably local. Kevin, you had a legitimate complaint. That wasn't the issue. If you had come here and not acted with the emotional maturity of an 8 yr old, you would have gotten a lot more positive of a response. As soon as you didn't get your way, you threw a bully fit and called everyone idiots if they questioned you in the least. My suggestion to you, get over yourself.

You got banned, and instead of maybe sitting back and figuring out what you did for that to happen, you come right back and continue talking crap to everyone. This shows real maturity on your part. If you had talked to me like you did to Eric, I'd have refunded you the money immediately and started my own info thread on you just to inform people on what they could expect from their interactions with you.

Have a nice life with your new monitor, good luck with it.

Chris

Captive born savannah, nile and water monitors are essentially nonexistent. That is because dealers buy them wild caught so cheaply there is no incentive for anyone to go to the effort to breed them. They are also very demanding pets with specific requirements. Kevin, check out the various monitor forums to get a good idea on substrate, temperatures, humidity, cage design. Pay close attention to postings made by Frank Retes (FR). I hope legal exportation of Savannahs comes to an end. Then, if captive-raised babies become available (at a much higher price), the literally 1,000's that are exported each year would not die. The reptile dealers and pet stores that sell these babies realize most are going to die, but they sell quickly as "impulse purchases". Not a good thing.
