In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Flexwatt Question

I want to rewire the flexwatt on my 9 tub 30qt rack which currently has 3" flexwatt on it (only been there a few months). The flexwatt is zig-zagged continuously down through the rack which obviously has wasted quite a bit (about 8' by my math). I want to take that 3" and use it on a hatchling rack I am building. My question is, since I have a lot of excess 11" flexwatt just sitting in a drawer, can I cut the 11" into 6" strips to use on the 30qt rack? I would be wiring it all together so as to keep it on one cord. I have not been able to find if there is a minimum length to which you must cut the flexwatt.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Adam

If you're cutting the flex watt in half, then no. It must be cut parallel to the 'ribs' in the tape, which is perpendicular to the silver conductive strips.

If you're talking about cutting it in 6" pieces the correct way and installing it 'sideways', then you shouldn't have a problem. I would daisy chain the wires, rather than running 9 sets of plugs (or maybe 4 & 5 rows wired together, making 2 plugs).

No I am not cutting through the black "ribs". I am cutting like you normally would but only in a 6" piece lol. I definitely will be chaining it all together!!
Thanks!!

If I recall, with 11" AND 17" flexwatt you are ONLY supposed to cut on the dotted line. What length that is (from dotted line to dotted line) you can measure and that will be your minimum length.

The heat tape I have doesnt have lines in it at all. I just cut what I need. U can not mix 3 inch and 11 inch on the same line. U need a separate t stat
