This poor fellow came to me the other day in an overnight shipment. When I opened the bag I found him tightly wrapped around a linen thread from the inside of a snake bag. Three days later in an area of approx. one inch on either side of his injury remains rigid and immobile. He does not bend it horizontally or vertically. This occurred 1/2 way down his body.

I am posting this so others will take the time to turn your snakes bags inside out and to trim off any long threads attached to the bag seam. Or maybe better yet, just turn the bags inside out leaving the threads on the outside of the bag.

This only takes a second to do and can save a snakes life.

Thanks.

How horrible! :( I'm so sorry about what happened to your snake. But thank you for bringing this to the attention of others.

OMG poor thing!
but thanks for sharing those pictures! it would have never come to my mind that somthing like this could happen.... we send or got our snakes in plastic boxes anyway, but this iss just so sad!

OW!! poor thing omg!! The very first snake I ever got shipped to me was in an inside out snake bag...so I automatically did that with my bags from the very start...

Now I know why o_O

Oh my goodness. Poor fellow! Fingers crossed it doesn't cause him any sort of health problems.

He offered me a full refund if I paid to ship him back. I couldn't bring myself to further stress out a severely injured snake and ship him again. So I'm keeping him. I asked for a partial refund and the breeder agreed. I hope he survives. I tried offering food the other night but he's not interested.

Update

I though I would I'd pass along an update to those who offered such encouraging words and support for this fellow. It will be three weeks tomorrow since I received him. Before, he would move the first half of his body only, back and forth checking things out, but not the area of his injury or beyond that. Then after awhile he would drag the injured part along. The lower half of is body seems to move and react to touch just fine.

He is moving around much better now, almost normal aside from the area that had been constricted by the snake bag thread. Today, that area still remains somewhat immobile about an inch to either side of the area. However, I do detect some recent movement in that area so hopefully any paralysis will repair itself over time. The seller told me he was fed last on Oct 4th-5th I think. I did try feeding him a couple times since with no interest, however, he ate a f/t rat pup (first time since having him) a week ago. He seemed to move the pup past this injured area with out a problem. He has not defecated yet and I hope the stool is firm, well digested and blood free when he does.

Questions:
1. What else should I be looking for in his stool? dried digested blood? What does that look like, and what will that tell me? I know fresh blood will not be good and that would most likely mean an immediate vet trip.

2. Should I hold off on any more feedings until he defecates? He only a hatchling and has had just one meal since the first week of Oct.

Thank you all,
Steve

I'm not to sure how obvious it would be, as I have never experienced it in person myself with a snake. I would think it would be a little tacky appearing, slightly different in consistency then the rest of the poop. And it would be blaaaack black...not brown black

These guys are very hardy and tough! Sounds like he's going to be just fine. Beautiful looking too! Good luck and keep us posted on progress with pics. :)
