I recently found this site and found out there is a crap load of stuff out there I never knew. All through highschool I worked as the "reptile guy" at this local exotic pet shop and thought I knew it all.
Take my 2 female leapord geckos for instance. They have to be 10 years old by now. One is a plain leapord gecko I got from the shop and the other I got at a reptile show. No idea what "morph" it is but I call it tangerine since shes orange. She used to have no spots in the middle and had a bright orange tail but it faded and spots filled in.
You can see below pics of my past and present setup. Before I came here I had them on crushed walnut shells with 1 dry hide and no calcium dish. Every week I would get 2 dozen crickets and throw them in without gutload. Just a sprinkle of this other supplement. (Short fat white round container with a pink label)They would run around in the cage all week until they died or were eaten.
Now I have repticarpet to keep things dust free and clean. I have some moss in a salad container I turned into a damp hide. I just changed the cage up this week and finally caught them using the damp hide. I didnt think they could climb ontop of it but they can and like to chill up there. I have a calcium dish now with that indoor mineral supplement and I have been feeding big juicy silkworms on a daily basis. No more left over crickets running amuck in the cage.
They seem to be plump and happy now. The orange female was always on the skinny side but her tail is finally fattening up now. I feed them seperately now so I can make sure they get an equal share and prevent fighting over the same cricket that happens to run by. Life is good in leapord gecko country.
*Also in the pics is my bearded dragon that went to a new home and my new setup with my uromastx. You can see the philbyi male basking away.
