In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You may have noticed the banner ad for HerpHelper showing up on the right side of your screen on occaision.
Over 100 of you have descided to click on it and check it out in the last couple of months. Almost as many have downloaded the software to try it out.
If you have tried it (even if you are registered already) I would like to know what you think.

Hey Big,
The software is functional and helpful. I KNOW that my animals are being cared for better with the recordkeeping features. Thanks.

Alan

Ditto that, Ian!!!

This is really, really great software, and even works quite well on Mac OS X.2 running Virtual PC with Win2K.

HerpHelper has just about any feature one could want, including feed, expense, breeding & inventory reports, a feeder "pull list," photos & clutch tracking for breeding projects & individual animals both, and FABULOUS customer service from a fellow herper. Damon has been wonderful at answering my plethora of questions (even the "dumb" ones) and his personal experience as a herp keeper lends itself to making this one of the most well-rounded pieces of herp software available today.

To top it off, you can't beat the price with a stick! $13 for all the features this program offers is a steal!

I love it. I use it. I highly recommend it!

I'd love to try it, but as long as it generates a code based on the machine installed on, I'll never touch it.

I upgrade hardware so often that any software restricted to any one piece or configuration would be useless.

I totally understand why it's implemented that way though. Sometimes you just have to keep people honest.

If it had all the features I wanted in tracking software, I would rather pay a premium for a registration key that is not locked to hardware.

If such an option becomes available, please let us know :)

Cheers,
Mike

HerpHelper is great! :D

I've been using it for quite some time, and it has filled all my needs.

HerpHelper is very comprehensive, and easy to use, and help is always there, in case you'll need it.

For all the European herpers out there - no need to worry about having a problem with dates. HerpHelper has an option to set the dates to European format (dd/mm/yy, instead of USA format - mm/dd/yy).

Awesome software with an awesome price! :D

I've recommended it to many herpers here in Israel, and I recommend it to anybody reading this message. :)

HerpHelper is likely the best software value I've gotten in over 15 years! My life is VERY, VERY hectic and "ease of use" is very important to me.

HerpHelper is a cinch to use and offers more capability than I'll ever likely use. Very clean, complete, and efficient code on this one. I use it on every tracked event on our snakes. I also have found another VERY useful application for the software...

I am an Agent at Large for my state's Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries. I assist in tracking HUNDREDS of marked, chipped, indigenous snakes on a regular basis. The system we use at the field house is an antiquated DOS DB that, well, SUCKS!

I have started to enter the data into HerpHelper on a trial basis and have adjusted the field entries to track other things. Guess what, for six weeks it has worked FLAWLESSLY on my old laptop. I am hooked (no pun intended).

HerpHelper is a clean, efficient, simple application that can raise the level of your keeping by leaps and bounds.

I only just started using it the other day, but I have nothing but good things to say about this software. I've tried many other programs and most of them were difficult to use, or were no more functional than writing things down on a piece of paper. I've been trying to come up with something that this program doesn't have, but havn't found anthing missing yet.

Keep up the good work

Mike. I understand.
Keeping people honest is solely why it's there. As I state on my site, "Registered users requiring a new license file may be charged a fee for the creation and delivery of a new license."
Note* "MAY" be charged.
Yes, I'm protecting my sales. But i'm also keeping the cost at minimum; and belive me, I make no money on this. I do it because I love it. I charge the fee of $13 because I like to keep a little $ in my wife's paypal account for ebay. I know you can't blame me for that. ;)
I have yet to charge anyone for recreating a license. (yes, i have already redone licenses for people on many occaisions)
As far as what hardware changes may require it, I don't know. Personally, I did not write the encryption and I can only relay what has been speculated.
I can assure you this; Try the software and if you like it, which i'm sure you will, just shoot me an email with your concerns. I'm sure you will find i'm very easy to deal with.

Tom. Funny you should mention field tracking.
I have a complete list (design work) for a field tracking module that will be added to the software soon. I'll get with you on that and see if you have anything to add.

Thanks to everyone for their support and comments.

herphelper

The program works great. It does not take long at all to input info about the animals. And the best part is that if I need a printout all it takes is a mouse click!:D

Damon,

I too would love to try your software, but since I work on my machine so often I always have some new item slaved off of my machine.

I would hate to have to bother you to generate a new license every time I screwed up your proggy (and I will- believe me!). Maybe you could generate a "master-user" or "multi-user" type license for folks like Mike and me?

Just a thought. I am going to try it. Will let you know what I did to mess it up!;)

I use it, I love it...

Really makes it easy to keep track of every aspect of husbandry from Retics to Cresteds!

I was wondering how you approach feeding an entire rack or racks, say 40 to 60 babies that are all fed on one day... Is there a way to automatically post feedings like that from a single entry? It would be functional to do that, and then adjust/delete the feeding from the possible 1 or 2 babies that may not have eaten.

I had tried various software in the past, being a computer guy myself, but single, one at a time, postings of feedings prevented me from using any herp tracking software.. I would spend more time with tracking software than with the snakes themselves...

Hence still using the index card tracking method.

I know a lot of us could use a feature like this. I will be a customer if this feature is available.

Very interesting point. That itself is not something I had considered.
However, I am planning on a hand held scanner input for feeding/tracking on a per animal basis. A barcode would be generated for an animal based on it's unique id and that would need to be afixed to the cage obviously.
I'm working on the design and input process for that. I'll give some thought to your comment this weekend.
Thanks for the input.

Big,

We love the software, and the great support that we are geting. Even had questions answered on a Sunday.
We recommend it to everyone we know, as it is a great asset to us for keeping track of all the reptiles that we keep. Love be able to type instead of writing everything down, can get a little hectic if you are feeding alot at one time.

Thanks for the great, affordable software and keep up the great work.

Thanks to everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I am going to drop the electronic keys for paid users. It's too much work on my end anyway... ;)
The install is sort of jacked up right now because i've been making a bunch of changes and trying to complete requests, so please bare with me. I will have everything back to normal by the end of the weekend.

Damon,
I know you worked hard on this software for months and w/ the price you are charging its obvious you are offering this more for the herp community than the money.Regardless of the reasoning
you should get paid for a good quality software.
I dont think its your problem that some people cant keep the same hardware in their computer long enough to warrant this software.
I used to be the same way as some of these people, i had a new MB and CPU every few months, however, i always had enough spare parts to keep a little solid server that i never changed out.How hard is it to set up an extra little comp in your snake room that is dedicated to your reptiles??I mean you change parts out so much, you should have enough to complete @least two extras @ will, i know i did.

If you decide to offer keys, i would charge $5 for extra keys.
Its to bad there isnt away to have the software sheck for Modem mac addresses, then keys wouldnt be an issue.

Anyways, good luck and excellant Job on your software..:)

While I see your point, Tom...

I work on computers. Mine is the work-horse. If I need to slave another pc or parts into mine to check them out then I just changed my config (good reason why I can't use WinXP which I paid good money for- LOL!).

My pc is also the mainframe for all my pc test equipment. I could set up a small D/B pc just for my reptiles, but I have no place to put it, for one thing.

I'm going to buy Damon's software as I'm trying it right now and I LOVE it! If I have a prob, I know Damon and I can work something out.

You are right about the price. I'd pay ten times the price for the features you've made here, Damon!

Thanks!
