    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

hi, my checkered garters just went off feed about 2 weeks ago. they're kept in my living room at 68-75 degrees. is that cold enough for them to initiate hybernation or should i assume something else caused the lack of intrest in food? the checkereds are the olny ones doing this, but they're also the only adult garters i currently own. if they are in fact going into hybernation, do i need to cool them down more, and for how long? i'd appreciate if someone could supply me with the information as i am new to snake-keeping and want to do the right thing for the animals.
thanks

tina

A couple of my garters tend to go off feed / become more finicky this time of year too. Because I'm not trying to breed, I don't hibernate mine, but when they start turning down food (they're normally fed an appropriately sized mouse weekly) I scale back the feedings to every other week or every two weeks. As the days start getting longer their appetite picks back up. If their lack of appetite is accompanied by marked weight loss, however, something besides a seasonal slow down may be responsible. If you do want to hibernate, check out this page for info: http://www.gartersnakemorphs.com/care.html

thanks, i checked that website and it looks like i need to cool them down some more in another week or two and also remove the light source. hope that's all it takes to have many little baby checkerds in the spring. i think it's cool that their body goes on auto-pilot regardless of the external conditions.
