In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Incubation; Schmincubation...... Maternal

Actually, my guess at the deaths is because you cut them far, far too early. Maternal incubation means they're incubating at lower temperatures, which means they'll take longer to develop. I think day 50 is too early at 89 degrees, let alone maternal incubation (which, I'm guessing, was probably much lower than 89 degrees).

EDIT: I also bet that the snakes in the first pic aren't necessarily Caramels. At two weeks before pipping, their colors aren't fully developed yet.

Erased seven comments to this reply...... Thanks Krystal for your assumptions and opinions; they are slightly askew... But, thanks.

My apologies if any of my previous response was offensive, as that was not intended.

*shrugs* I made note of my assumptions; if they're wrong, then they're wrong. I have no problem with that. However, given that they pipped 13 days after you cut them (only 3/4 into their incubation), I retain my original conclusions.

EDIT: My reason for stating what I did is so that we can hopefully learn what happened so that, as you said, people can learn from this. There was another thread recently that made it clear people didn't realize incubation time is dependent on temperature, and something similar to what happened here could have easily happened there. I was unaware that this wasn't common knowledge. However, I could have been more tactful. Anyway, I am indeed very sorry for your loss; I wish these would have proved for you.

I incubate a 89 degrees and cut on day 50 all the time and have never had any issues. So in my opinion 89 degrees is not too low to cut at day 50. Just my two cents for what its worth:D

Thank you Danny!!

This is true Danny; what I didn't account for; mommy grasping the clutch and basically losing the amniotic?? fluid from the cut eggs.... Three dried up and perished thanks to mom and I on that one; one was a dead embryo that went almost full term; egg stunk and got tossed; and one was so malformed it pip'd and died upon first breath? That is the just of it; you can cut on day 50 all day long; just don't let that fluid come out....... Thanks to all!!:yesnod:

Just wanted to add that the keeper has as much control over temps in their snake's enclosure as they do in an incubator. So long as you've got a good probe and a quality thermostat regulating some heat tap/pad/cord/whatever, you're good to go. If you're unsure about what temp your female's eggs are being kept at, you can (with the cooperation of the mother, of course) nestle a probe into the egg pile and monitor the temp. I maternally incubate all of my clutches and I've got a probe down in one of the clutches currently being brooded. In the time that the probe has been placed, it's been reading fairly consistently at 88F. If I really wanted to increase the temperature a bit, all it would take is pressing a button on the thermostat but I'm happy with 88. The only time it changes is when I'm getting into that tub to check on the clutch or feed mom.
