Ok, here is the issue. I went to work yesterday at about 130pm. While I was at work my thermostat blew a fuse and stopped working. I am guessing it was due to a power short in my house that happened at 115pm yesterday. Before I left I saw the temp on the incubator still said 89.3 degrees. When I got home a bit after midnight I saw that the temp of the incubator dropped to 76.8. I quickly got the temp back up to 89.5 and checked the eggs, all still have veins and look ok. Does anyone think this will affect the putcome of them hatching on time, safely or even surviving? I had 3 clutches in the incubator. clutch 1 was at 44 days, 2 was at 36 days and 3 was at 17 days. Please let me know what you think and if anyone has ever had an incubator fail for that long did it affect your eggs?

I have heard stories both ways, both good and bad. I have never had it happen to me personally. My gut thinks that it wasn't long enough in the 70's to do anything permanent. Good luck and let us know how things work out.

The only thing I would think to do is to get them back up to temps and hope all is well. After a few days you can candle them to check to see if there's still veins.

If they candle good still after a day or two they should all still be good. The one thats at 44 days should definitely be too far along to affect it but who knows. I would say they should all be good but keep us posted when they start to hatch.

Dam Brett that sucks, hope all is well with them, good luck and definitely keep us posted. Seeing this made up my mind... when I actually build my incubator, Im gonna go with a double theremostat!

I had the same thing happen to me. I had only one clutch in the incubator. I worried sick, but they all hatched out. One snake was really small but I am not sure if that was the cause.

Like everyone says, if they still candle good after a few days (I would check them a week after) and if they look good you can stop worrying. Good luck

A back up power supply maybe but multiple thermostats won't help without power.

If the theremostat doesnt work what good would an alternate power source do?

He checked it before work with out worrying which leads me to assume the power was back on before he left.

Therefore a dual thermostat would have avoided the tempurature drop completely.

I read it a bit fast obviously, the fuse blowing stopped the one from working so yes if the power was back on a back up would have taken over, my bad :p

everything is good with clutch 1. all six are on the way out of the egg now. I was wrong about what day the were on when it happened they were on day 49 not 44. here are some pics of them now.

Congrats on the clutch hatching!! And, I wouldn't worry myself too much over the rest that are still in there. If it only dropped to mid 70's for less than 24 hours, I'm sure they'll all be fine. In the wild, I can't imagine a single cool night killing all the wild clutches. Not saying I don't see why you were concerned in the first place; just saying that I think you'll be fine.
