In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Has anyone been to, or done business with, Captive Born Reptiles in Columbus, Ohio. I believe the breeder's name there is Terry Wilkins. They are advertising hatchling redbelly Texas Indigos for $750.00.

Ive seen the previous inquiry, which was posted in 2005. I'd like to see if anyone has any current info on store upkeep, animal health, business practises, etc.

I would be especially interested to hear from anyone who has seen and/or purchased a Texas Indigo from them.

Thank You,

John D.

Thanks

Thanks you Melissa.

I have read the previous thread. What I was wondering is whether CBR has cleaned up its act at all since then.

Thanks,

John D.

Beware:

Bought this last year and man talk about major lies and disappointments.
This was described as HEALTHY by Mr Wilkins.

That'll Do It For Me

Damn.

That poor thing - it looks like it retained a full body shed and emaciated to boot.

Were you able to save it?

No they haven't cleaned up at all.
And unfortunately that is the "quality" of animal you can expect from Captive Born. It's sickening. :hot:

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes she is still with us, and getting better.
She still needs more time to get back to healthy status.

I, too, live in Columbus, Ohio and have been to Capitve Born Reptiles. I would never buy an reptiles from him... he WAY overprices them, keeps multiple animals in cages entirely too small for a single animal, and the cages are hardly ever clean. I've seen cages with three or four Retics or twelve to fifteen Dum's boas, sheds and waste all over...

I've bought feeders from him before, but never reps.

Interesting Developements...

Those of you who have posted, or have just been following along, may want to check the sister thread over on the Indigo and Drymarchon forum. There have been interesting developements.

Regards,

John D.

Filthy conditions mites on every single snake. i have stopped going in there. it seems like they just dont care aboiut the animals at all. i would never recommend them.

Been there a hundred times and it absolutely horrible. Ive read all the posts that everyone is writing and they are right on point. Just to add my troubling story- I went about 8 months ago to pick up a few rats and while I was waiting I was looking around. I came across a 4' alligator in a 55 gal aquarium with the light bulb, that they had just hanging into the cage, busted. I informed one of the people who work there about it and he said he'd take care of it. I came back a week later and the glass, and live electrical wire, were still there. I was disgusted to say the least. So theres my little ranting about them. Im sure there will be more.

I sure hope not because you could be putting your own collection in danger each time you visit that store. One of the quickest ways to bring mites (and all the lovely diseases they can carry with them) into your collection is purchasing rats from a store that is infested with mites. Unless of course you're buying them frozen. In any case, fresh or frozen, there is the matter of if they cannot care for the animals they have...feeders included...how healthy and nutritious could the rats be that you're offering your snakes?

I meant there will be more complaints. I've stopped buying anything from them as soon as I found another place.

Which I might add is about 10 times cheaper (even with shipping when necessary) than CBR has ever been.

I know this post is old, I wasnt sure if I should make a new post or not.

I was in Ohio this weekend and went to the Ohio reptile show. Arriving at the hotel in Columbs, I was looking in the phone book for a place to eat close, and came across the list for Reptile. I seen the name and got directions and went today before coming home....

I got there before it was opened and it looked like a nice shop from looking in the door. Boy was I wrong. It stunk so bad in there. Way over priced. I started at the front of the shop and worked down the row. The smell was so bad my mother had to leave the store. There were sheds left in the cage. I got to where the retics were. All of them had shed still on them and patchy. There was one tank that had a yellow head retic in it. It mouth was open, had no light, was dirty, stuck shed, and in way to small of a tank. The retic above it had mold growing in the cage. The larger of the retics also had bad sheds and left over sheds and waste. The one cage had a zoomed heating pad in the tank with the wire just laying there.

I thought with the name Captive Born Reptiles it would be a nice shop, I was wrong. If This should be made a new thread let me know and Ill make one.

And thats been exactly like that for at least as long as Ive live in Columbus, which is going on 4 years now

Its just sad really it is. I wish I would have pulled out my phone and snapped some pics and posted them up. What made me mad was the mold growing. How can you not see that growing in there and clean it?
