In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Maybe this is a dumb question, but this is my first time breeding and I was wondering if some of the more experienced breeders here could let me know if this is a good lock-up before I get overly excited. This is my '10 butter male and my '08 het. VPI axanthic female. Just put them together last night and came home from work today to find this. Not the best pics, but I just snapped a few quick ones and tried not to disturb them to much.

They stayed that way all afternoon yesterday. I haven't seen them "locked" today. They have been together 2 days now. How often should I take them apart and reintroduce them to each other?

Thanks Steve. Should I attempt to feed while they are apart? The female stopped eating 2 weeks ago. Do I keep pairing them up until she ovulates?

Starting this year, I'm only keeping them together for as long as they're locked, then separate them for a week or so...and pick up the frequency a bit through late December and January. It's been nice so far, as I've had all successful locks, and my males and females are still eating.

You should always offer food, even when it appears they're off feed. You never know when they may eat, and any extra meal they get in them throughout breeding season is a big plus.

yes, I do. but don't be discouraged if they are not interested in eating. 4-6 months w/o out eating is not unusual.

Robert is correct. alway offer food at least on a weekly basis, if they take it or not. Don't get dissapointed or worry if they refuse it. The female should feed a 3-4 days after she lays and her tub is descented. I find it the perfect time to convert her over to F/T if she hasn't been already.

Thanks Robert and Steve. I appreciate the advice. This pairing is pretty much going to be my practice run. It is the only pair that I have that are ready to breed right now. I hope to have a few more females ready to breed later in the season. They will be multi co-dom breedings and I'm hoping to learn a good lesson from this pairing. I'm glad that there are people here that are willing to help out.

I read the snakes body language per say, if the female sits on the male I allow it for no more than 12 hours especially for smaller males, large males I don't worry about but I still pull them if the female sits on them.
If they are sitting side by side and no scenting has taken place and the females tail is curled inward, then she's already told him no, I pull the male.
If they are on opposite sides of the tub for more than 24 hours and no scenting has taken place, they get separated.

I find when both are ready and willing participants that the female will scent the tub up within minutes typically but certainly within hours.
If the female doesn't scent the tub up the first 24 hours after pairing then she probably won't on the second or third day either, I pull him.

I don't leave males with females for longer than 4 days, 2-3 is probably the average.

I offer males smaller than normal meals to try to keep them on feed as long as possible, nothing larger than a weanling for any male during the season.

If the male is over 1000 grams then it's not usually an issue, but the smaller the male the more that becomes dangerous to their health.
Having lost a small male to breeding I know first hand, keep them eating as long as possible and be prepared to pull the male if he gets too small.
