Inquiry is usark scamming the reptile industry

I like how in the first few pages Rodney responded to every single post that someone made. Now that people have started to make responsible and rational posts here about how ridiculous and absurd he sounds he hasn't said a word in a few pages. Interesting.

I think USARK does wonderful things. And being from Florida I know I have to have a class 3 permit to breed and sell exotic animals. I do believe there need to be regulations on certain things and think that USARK is fighting for the lesser of 2 evil when it comes to certain issues. A total ban vs a restriction of some kind. Find the lesser of 2 evils here. I think you will agree with USARK on that one.

i wasnt online thats why i wasnt responding. i cant be online all the time. its seems like once im of line there are a lot more post. it seems like people wait for me to sign off and then post about my poor grammar and lack of education and side stepping any really issues. which adds much to the discussion.

heres the problem with the lobbying thing. if we as an industry want to go down that road of buying votes we need to step back and take a look at the reality of it.

our biggest enemy is hsus. they brought in around $100,000,000 in 2010.

usark brought in around $300,000 in 2010

wanye pacelle the ceo of hsus makes around $250,000 a year.

so you see the ceo of our biggest enemy makes almost as much money as usark grossed in a year.

can you see the problem here

lobbying i.e. buying votes is a lost cause for us.

if the court put out their scale and say load it up and and who ever piles up the most money wins we dont have a chance. usark brings in less then 4% of what hsus dose. we just cant compete in the lobbying arena with them.

usark spent a little over $24,000 on airlines and hotels and spent less then $3,000 on advertising.

but they spent almost $12,000 on t shirt and promo items, which im guessing are the thing they give to donators.

and they spent over $17,000 on show expenses.

so for usark to fly to shows get a hotel and set up at shows they spent around $35,000. thats over 10% of what they took in and you people really think thats going to help us be able to keep our reptiles

first of all even with all the negative things ive said about usark i still think a reptile organization thats fighting for the industry,( whether or not i agree with how they are doing it) shouldnt have to pay for their tables. it wouldnt kill show promoters to give up a table or two for free.

would anyone like to talk about this

Really dude, come on this is why the BOI is becoming a waste to read. the topic gets lost on the first page it just becomes a bashing match. Im guilty of it aswell, but we all need to hold our fingers say it out loud and only post what is pertinent to the topic. this was the first post of this i saw so the it wasn't totally unwarranted. People shouldn't be able to seize something without being able to identify what it is 100% on site. What happens if there is improper care when the animal is seized and it resluts in the death of an extremely rare or valuable animal. Who picks up the tab then, or is the owner just bent over the barrel.

we all should be intelligent enough to read through grammatical errors well enough to understand the meaning behind the post. technically all your brain needs the is the first and last letter of the word to understand and read it even is some are missing or in the wrong order. If you cant do that then dont bash on his grammar.

Thats why I didn't say "here's proof" or "the fact is". I stated it and said "pick the lesser of two evils". Pretty much left it open for individuals to decide what was better. But sometimes I guess people only read things they want or interpret it for how they want it to support their own argument. Why is it ok for you to spew your beliefs and opinions on the matter, but the minute someone else does you single them out and try to turn it around?

The way I see it, before USARK there was NO ONE fighting for this industry in Washington just a short time ago. You can't expect a new organization to have the funds and backing of one that is so entrenched. But we have to start somewhere.
This Rodney person seems to want to go back to the way it was before, but with the politicians writing laws faster than most of us can keep us, his stance is a very dangerous one indeed.
My hope is that this thread generates alot of new membership and money for USARK, and it just might!!

dude almost everybody has said the lesser of two evils thing. and the problem with it is it implies that there isnt any other choice and thats the mentality that usark is pushing on everyone. usark with their model legislation is acting more like a public realtion group then they are a organization fighting for peoples rights. because thats what it comes down to making the idiotic masses feel safe after hsus and fox news scares them

379.372 Capturing, keeping, possessing, transporting, or exhibiting venomous reptiles, reptiles of concern, conditional reptiles, or prohibited reptiles; license required.—
(1)(a) No person, party, firm, association, or corporation shall capture, keep, possess, or exhibit any poisonous or venomous reptile or reptile of concern without first having obtained a special permit or license therefor from the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as provided in this section.
(b) By December 31, 2007, the commission shall establish a list of reptiles of concern, including venomous, nonvenomous, native, nonnative, or other reptiles, which require additional regulation for capture, possession, transportation, or exhibition due to their nature, habits, status, or potential to negatively impact humans, the environment, or ecology.
(c) It shall be unlawful for any person, party, firm, association, or corporation, whether licensed hereunder or not, to capture, keep, possess, or exhibit any venomous reptile or reptile of concern in any manner not approved as safe, secure, and proper by the commission. Venomous reptiles or reptiles of concern held in captivity are subject to inspection by the commission. The commission shall determine whether the reptiles are securely, safely, and properly penned. In the event that the reptiles are not safely penned, the commission shall report the situation in writing to the person, party, firm, association, or corporation owning the reptiles. Failure of the person, party, firm, association, or corporation to correct the situation within 30 days after such written notice shall be grounds for revocation of the license or permit of the person, party, firm, association, or corporation.
(d) Venomous reptiles or reptiles of concern shall be transported in a safe, secure, and proper manner. The commission shall establish by rule the requirements for the transportation of venomous reptiles or reptiles of concern.
(2)(a) No person, party, firm, association, or corporation shall keep, possess, import into the state, sell, barter, trade, or breed the following species for personal use or for sale for personal use:
1. Burmese or Indian python (Python molurus).
2. Reticulated python (Python reticulatus).
3. Northern African python (Python sebae).
4. Southern African python (Python natalensis).
5. Amethystine or scrub python (Morelia amethystinus).
6. Green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus).
7. Nile monitor (Varanus niloticus).
8. Any other reptile designated as a conditional or prohibited species by the commission.
(b) If a person, party, firm, association, or corporation holds a permit issued before July 1, 2010, under subsection (1) to legally possess a species listed in paragraph (a), that person, party, firm, association, or corporation may possess such reptile for the remainder of the life of the reptile.
(c) If a person, party, firm, association, or corporation holds a permit issued before July 1, 2010, under subsection (1) to legally possess a reptile listed in paragraph (a), and the reptile remains alive following the death or dissolution of the licensee, the reptile may be legally transferred to another entity holding a permit authorizing possession of the reptile for the remainder of the life of the reptile.
(d) If the commission designates a species of reptile as a conditional or prohibited species after July 1, 2010, the commission may authorize the personal possession of that newly designated species by those licensed to possess that species of reptile before the effective date of the species’ designation by the commission as a conditional or prohibited species. The personal possession of such reptile is not a violation of paragraph (a) if the personal possession was authorized by the commission.
(e) This subsection does not apply to traveling wildlife exhibitors that are licensed or registered under the United States Animal Welfare Act or to zoological facilities that are licensed or exempted by the commission from the licensure requirement.

why dont they explain to me why they have the right to write legislation for my state without asking anyone in my state about first.

why dont they come on here and tell us about the bans that are being proposed in mine and 6 or 7 other states and give us some information about that

why dont they come on here an explain how spending over 10% of what they took in, in 2010 on hotel, airlines, and going to show is going to save the industry.

i think i already pointed out that the cops have the right to come in your house with probable cause

keep in mind if you get raided as a result of you not letting them in the first time or two and they have to get a warrant their probably going to take more than just your snakes. money guns anything that they think they can use against you or use to have more charges against you.

I will type REAL SLOWLY for rodney. Their model legislation is NOT the only answer. That is why they try to fight the legislations first. That is why they go to hearings and committees. The model legislation is proposed in lieu of a total ban. Terry, if you do not think that is the answer, then what prey tell do you think it should be? When HSUS complains and targets an organization like USARK, we must be doing something right and we must be pretty effective. When was the last time HSUS complained about terry?

i hate to tell you people when you say things like its the lesser of two evils or its better than a ban, its only a statement of your position on the matter. by simply stating your position the inherent truth of which, if there is any, is not automatically manifested by the action of typing it. so when you look at your statement and you agree with it,obviously, its not in itself proof
