Im gonna keep it simple. I bought what was supposed to be a breeding pair of Jungle Carpet pythons off him and they turned out to both be males . when I found out i had two males via probing, i gave Jared a chance to make it right and either return my money to me or swap a male for a female. He chose to inform his asst manager[which is who i had to talk through Jared never actually talked to me though he does have my phone number] That neither would be done without him in town[jared was at the ontario cal reptile show] i would like to know why he couldn't just return the two snakes or at least talk to me personally on the phone then instruct his employee in whatever action was decided upon. all in all this is a very shady company/breeder and should be approached with extreme caution. I have posted a screen shot of the ad that clearly states a male and a female.

It's shady that the owner/manager of a business wants to be present to handle a customer complaint?

Sounds like he plans on looking into it to make it right.

there was nothing to look into.i bought them and in less then an hour i was on the phone trying to get this resolved. Why couldn't the owner have called me when i know he had my number. The owner knows who I am its not like i am a new customer.there is no excuse why he could not have instructed his assistant on what to do.

I just feel throwing up a BOI thread the very day you got the animals when the owner stated they wanted to be the one who dealt with it when they got back into town is a little unreasonable.

You aren't even giving him time TO fix it.

he had yesterday today and had most of tomorrow until I have to leave and go back to school. Im not being unreasonable at all. When you go to petsmart or petco or any other reptile shop i have dealt with in the area they don't tell you come back later.they deal with it right then and there.whether the owner is in town or not. they always have someone who can take over.heck when i ran my business it was the same way!

PetCo and PetSmart are not comparable to a privately owned facility. PetCo and PetSmart employ managers for every single department as well as a general manager and, as a rule, have two to three of them available all day, every day until a couple hours before close.

He said he would look into it when he got back, I do not feel it is unreasonable to wait until then to start a Bad Guy Thread.

What happens if/when he fixes it?

Your screenshot says you're picking them up on the third, and you posted on the third. That looks like same day to me.

Give the man a chance.

I agree I don't think it's a whole lot to ask for you to wait until the owner got back to take care of this. I can understand you being upset about not receiving a pair and actually receiving 2 males. Unfortunately it happens and it happens a lot. Some species more so then others as they are harder to probe. But you always have to take into consideration that what ever animal you buy the sex is always going to be questionable especially for females and not so much males. Since if a snake probes or pops to be a male well you can be fairly positive it is a male if you know what you're doing. Females on the other hand or supposed females are much more difficult to get an accurate read on sexing. Sometimes males are difficult to probe and will look like a female so the mistake is just that a mistake. Does it constitute that someone is a Bad Guy because they sold you two males that were supposed to be a male female pair? I don't think so at least not yet. Unless a male female pair is sold as proven as that's the only way to be 100% sure of the sex of an animal is if they have bred before and the female produces a clutch or litter. But these weren't sold as a Proven Pair so I don't see this yet as trying to deceive you or a knowing misrepresentation of the animals you bought. As it looks now with the info provided this was just a mistake and I believe it's completely acceptable to at least allow the owner to deal with this himself when he returns, it's not that much to ask.

Also the fact that you got two Jungles for the price of one regardless of sex even though they were represented as such, I can see how Jared would want to deal with this and not leave it up to one of his employee's to make the decision.
I honestly think you should have at least had given Jared to opportunity to fix this before labeling him as a Bad Guy, IMO. But it is your money and the BOI is set up for anyone to label whomever they want how they see fit.

Just for the record I don't know Jared or you. I'm just giving my opinion on this situation as I see it from the info provided. Now my opinion might change after more info comes to light, like when you hear back from Jared or he decides to post here with his side of the story. But I do think it sucks that if Jared totally takes care of this that doesn't change the fact that he is now labeled a Bad Guy forever.

Worst possible scenario for you is that you sell one of the males and purchase a female since you got 2 for the price of one. Now I'm not saying that's what you should do I'm just saying that if you're not taken care of that you're still not that bad off. But that does mean you have to sell a snake and look for another one which is not what you had planned on when purchasing these snakes. I'm only stating that it's not a total loss on your end if Jared doesn't make this right. Hopefully posting this Bad Guy thread doesn't hurt your chances at a remedy of this situation. Not every body is inclined to be very generous when someone has labeled them a Bad Guy when they haven't even had a chance to make it right, just saying.

Best of luck and please let us know the outcome! Also have you notified Jared of this thread so he can tell his side of the story?

I forgot to mention that the Ontario CA Reptile Show is this weekend November 3rd and 4th so Jared won't be back to his shop until Monday at the earliest since their shop is in Tempe Arizona. But Tuesday would be my guess unless he's driving back right after the show tomorrow. Still to label him a Fraud because you were asked to wait a couple of days is a bit harsh, IMO.

Are you certain they're both male? Did you have them professionally sexed?

Here's what I think: Jared probably can't believe the scenario until he checks it over himself. The owner/manager is the only one you should be dealing with for that, not a regular employee. So yes, you are seriously jumping the gun here. Don't get mad about employees trying to defer decisions to their manager. That's what they're supposed to do.

They obviously thought they were 100% sure of the sexes before they made that facebook deal offering a male and female. Why would they purposely send out a same-sex pair when such a thing can be so easily found out? It doesn't make sense that they would do that. So it's probably just an accident. In which case you should understand that they happen sometimes.

Jim,

So to sum it up, you purchased a supposed pair of JCP's from Reptile Mogul in Tempe, while Jared is out doing a California reptile show. You bring the snakes back an hour later (owner has already been gone 2 entire days and won't be back until Tues) to the manager for a swap/refund? When this doesn't work you make a BOI thread here, because Jared cannot answer his phone at a noisy and loud reptile show?

You are faulting him because he is out of town doing business? If I was him, I WOULDN'T let my employee take back the snakes either (you could of probed them wrong as well).

I do think it is RIDICULOUS that you are here calling Jared a fraud. He's had his reptile store in the same location for the last 5+ years and can also find him at almost every reptile show on the West Coast.

Robert

P.S. - Did you think it was odd that the Facebook posting couldn't identify which one was the female? Sometimes baby JCP's can be very hard to probe. If I was Jared, I'd at least want the chance to get back and probe the animals in question, MYSELF.

they aren't babies first off. they are adults.I did have two other shop owners probe them and they agreed that they were males. I know i said i would pick them up on the third but actually picked them up on the second as i was able to get home early. I also explained to Damon that I had to be back here in flag by Monday.Damon himself agreed that this was the action i should take and also said he disagreed with the way things were being handled.Jared could have very easily picked up the phone and called me.If he can talk to Damon on a phone he can talk to me. Thats another thing. Jared and I have actually talked after this.He claims to not of had a phone but was able to talk to Damon on the phone. He also claimed he did not have 180 dollars in the store at the time to do a return. I mentioned to Damon that store credit was fine with me.I was fine with any kind of out come but the one i got.I know if i ran my business in the fashion he just displayed i wouldn't have customers because when a problem arose and if i told them they had to wait first off i would lose that customer second that customer would tell their friends so on and so forth.I am in the right here. maybe i did jump the gun a bit but the situation at hand called for it. Either way Its over and its done. i will never visit his shop again nor will any of the people i know in the hobby who have personally experienced the whole situation with me.

Would you have given him an extra couple of days if you hadn't needed to get back to school so quickly? If so, it seems like your tight schedule is the cause of his permanent Bad Guy tag, and not the snakes themselves. You can't undo that.
I've received incorrectly sexed animals before, and sometimes it takes a couple weeks or more to get it straightened out. You need time for communication, photos, shipping weather, etc. Why would he just take your word for it, and upset his entire schedule because you had to go back to school?
As far as the phone calls, it's much easier to call an assistant/employee while you're busy doing other things. A complaining customer should be called back in a timely manner, but you need to be alone and unhurried in order to give the complaint proper attention.
Most people will read this entire thread before doing business with either of you, and realize that if they make a mistake and don't fix it within 24 hours, you will attempt to do permanent damage to their reputation.

Reptile Mogul Exotic store

. . . i will never visit his shop again nor will any of the people in the hobby who have personally experienced this whole situation with me.

* When I'm in Phoenix I always check out Reptile Mogul Exotics store in Tempe and will continue to do so.

* Sorry to hear that Jared did not fit "your schedule" as he was miles / hours away setting up for the Herp World Expo in Ontario, CA.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents....I don't know Jared or the Reptile Mogul Exotics store BUT I don't think it's unreasonable for the owner to want to handle the issue himself. I own my business in partnership with two other people, and I can tell you that there are times when I have to wait to give a customer an answer because I need input from my partners. And Noelle brings up a good point about the phone call issue. There are times when I cannot talk to customers on the phone but I will talk to my partners...if I know I am likely to be interrupted, I know I can tell my partner I have to go deal with something. I can't do that as easily with a customer or potential customer. I think it might be too early to label Jared a bad guy...he seemed willing to try and fix this IMO.

I know Jared personally, he is an upstanding member of the community.

This is a blatant over-reaction, and does not merit his business' name being tarnished or the "fraud" title.

Jared wanting to handle the issue himself once he's back in town is completely reasonable.

Robert so to sum it up as you put it, you assume to know the entire story and automatically the client is wrong because the owner could not or would not honor his ad, 1 male, 1 female..........if in doubt why then was he not allowed to return said snakes and since when should he have to miss School in another state to wait for this "owner" to be there to probe them again himself, you yourself said, they are very hard to probe sometimes so maybe said owner made a mistake himself to which he could have found out when he got back because had the employees given a refund as they should have the snakes would be there waiting for him and he could see, he would not be out any money, he would have had a happy content customer who would not have said anything negative...........but nooooooooo let's blame the customer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Naturally the customer is NOT always right and it is not the job of an owner to help make his customers happy so they will recommend others to him and speak highly of him.........well I for one would never do business with him for the simple fact that he did not give his customer a refund and the customer had to leave the state for SCHOOL, which obtw the owner was out of state as well but he did not come running back to check this out, but the customer should? Get real, this is rediculous, he should have give the refund with a happy face and gone on with life!

WOAH. Why are you singling out Robert to direct this crazed anger? What did he do to you? He's just responding like everyone else in this thread, and with a similar opinion.

I don't think any of us are suggesting that the OP skip school. If my kids did that, I'd have to kill them, as they would grow up to be people who are unable to properly speak, spell, or punctuate. Perhaps a more mature decision would've been to wait until there was ample time to deal with any issues. Nor is anyone saying he was wrong (or right) about the sex of the snakes. If the money were ultimately coming out of my pocket, you can bet I would want to check the animals myself.
