In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Jeane Best- River City Reptiles (Bad Guy)

I had bought an 3 year old male Sandfire Orange male from Jeane of River City Reptiles in November and was informed that she guaranteed he was 100% healthy sadly he died not even 6 months later.

I did find that a male of this quality was being sold at this price was a bit odd he was an incredible red orange color with intense blue side bars and I got him dirt cheap. At the time I should have taken that as a warning and asked more about it but I didn't as I was being told it was just because she didn't have any room from him. After only 24 hours of owning him I noticed he really was never eating like any of my dragons did so I emailed Jeane about this and got no reply finally after a week of emails I gave up. He continued to be a very odd eater and was never very active let alone moved much at all. I began trying to breed him to see if maybe he just needed to see some females, I was able to get him to breed one of my females successfully but then he refused to even beard up at anymore. He simply went back to his old laying around and eating very little which concerned me so I took him in with several of my males for a 6 month check up I do on all of my dragons this is a very basic exam and the vet said he seemed ok but he was a bit concerned about the lethargy. I began to think "Well ok maybe this is just how he is" and continued doing as I always did, May came around he began to eat even less which made no sense to me at the end of the month he suddenly could no longer move or would even eat so I rushed him into the vet for testing. Upon X-rays the vet found tumors on his spine he stated that for something this involved this dragon was like this for over a year and probably was always lethargic like this during that time. I told him about the price I paid he stated with the color and quality of the animal it was most likely the seller knew something was wrong and wanted to move the dragon and make some money while she could. This was something that should have not gone unnoticed if the seller would have done the proper 6 month health exams and pre sale exams she would have found this out for sure and if she was honest would have not put an animal up like this for sale.

I have been trying to contact her over this for weeks now and am being ignored I have even posted on her guest book about it and it is deleted with in 5 minutes I was never given a phone number she refused to give it out which I should have also seen as a bit odd. I do no want to see this happen to anyone else it broke my heart to have to see my dragon like this and to have to put him down when the owner most likely knew fully something was wrong.

On a further note you would think the owner would care and atleast reply back to an email about a dragon she sold dieing so soon and from a condition it had while in her care, most breeders would not want this type of feed back out about them. Another issue was with the terms of service I was told I would get Care sheets, charts on their feeding, genetics, family tree, and a bloodline chart and I never got them. There was also a 74 hour health guarantee and I emailed her letting her know the dragon was not acting right or eating right and all emails where ignored so do not trust her guarantee or terms of service!

So in essence Jeane Best of River City Reptiles is a Bad Guy she will not respond to emails or any attempts of contact yet always posting dragons for sale on sites if anything is posted on her guest book she simply deletes it and ignores it.

!!Bad Seller!!

Since you claim you were ignored initially, can you post proof of date of shipping, such as relevent communications at the time, and then the initial emails, with header dates, of when you first notified Jeane that there might be a problem ?

When you say this:
This was something that should have not gone unnoticed if the seller would have done the proper 6 month health exams and pre sale exams she would have found this out for sure and if she was honest would have not put an animal up like this for sale.

What do you mean by "proper 6 month exams and pre-sale exams ? Are you claiming that you should have gotten a veterinary certificate of health with the sale ? Can you link me to those sellers of BD's where vet exams are part of the pre-sale protocol ?

....the owner most likely knew fully something was wrong.

As it was diagnosed/necropsied 7 months after you bought it, you seem to be admitting that you have no way to know if the owner knew, but only that your logic says that they "likely knew"?

On a further note you would think the owner would care and at least reply back to an email about a dragon she sold dieing so soon and from a condition it had while in her care, most breeders would not want this type of feed back out about them. Another issue was with the terms of service I was told I would get Care sheets, charts on their feeding, genetics, family tree, and a bloodline chart and I never got them.

... dieing so soon ? 7-8 months ? :ack2: Does she owe you money, new dragon, etc, after 7-8 months, since "most owners do not want this type of feedback out about them" ? Can you post the TOS of your purchase where you were promised all the bloodline, feeding charts, etc. info ? Something don't sound right here :shrug01:

also, what contact info do you have? let the other party know your posting here.
lets get the other side of the story.

C'mon Nicole. Let's get some evidence on the table. Allegations of wrong-doing and responsibility seven months after the fact is quite a stretch. You claim all communications were emails. Should be easy to document by posting the relevant ones here. Please answer my other questions too, as you draw conclusions that I find strange even after my 40 years in the business.

Jeane Best is a known scammer along with her daughter Wendy Childs (is she still in jail, Jim?) Jeane's daughter is the ex pornstar, neo nazi, meth head, so I don't think Jeane probably cares if the family reputation gets soiled from time to time. Consider it a lesson learned, and always check both the business name along with the seller's name on the BOI before doing business. Jeane comes up in 27 different threads when you search, and I don't think in anyone of those she comes out as a good guy.

Nicole,

This is probably not what you want to hear but... You feel that you have been wronged but the fact is that too much time elapsed between your purchase and the death of the dragon. Maybe there was a pre existing condition, although it's impossible to know right now. Even if there was a subclinical ailment, having exposed the dragon to the stress of breeding didn't help him at all. An animal that's not 100% healthy should not be used for reproduction. For once you are risking his health. In addition if it happens to have something contagious you are risking the other animals. In short, by know you probably know that "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is". Bad seller? Bad guy? The only thing that you can probably state right now is that there was poor communication. One way or the other I agree with what was posted before, maybe your e-mail exchange with the seller will bring more light into this deal.

Jim, what is your strange attachment to Wendy and Jeane? Why would you even question Nicole? Jeane has zero credibility in the herp community except for you. That really makes one wonder.

This is a quote from her website...

"I represent my reptiles honestly, and I conduct business in a forthright manner. All reptiles are guaranteed to be 100% healthy and feeding well at the time they are shipped. Since I have no guarantee of their care after arrival, my responsibility ends 72 hours after delivery.*** Live arrival is guaranteed under normal circumstances.*** Guarantee is void if package is not signed for on the first delivery attempt. Now that we are keeping everything out in the open and honest, I really don't know how you can possibly blame Ms. Best for the Beardie dying after six months.
Could post a vet report that states that Ms. Best should have known that this Beardie had this problem.

Jeane ignored her right from the start.

Tim and John,
I like facts, and at least hope to see some on the table before the keyboards-without-clues start revving up. Nicole's story lacks legitimacy as posted. I don't see any seller of anything reptile being liable as she expects based on her post. Those of you that want to bring up the daughter, who is not in this picture, to put it mildly, are typical of the many assclowns that post here.

Dan, nice post. Good to see that objectivity still prevails in some corners.

That's two idiot posts.

Hi Jim. :wavey:

As soon as I seen this thread a smile broke out across my face....

I'm not defending Ms. Best nor am I making any claim the she is a good dealer or has good business practices. With her history, linked to her daughter's crimes, I doubt that Perry Mason could help her reputation at this point.
All I asked for is some evidence that Ms. Best should have known that this animal was ill. Lack of communication does not prove that.
I, like Mr. Flaherty, would be interested in seeing the emails vet reports etc.

Jim, you can call me an ass clown all you want, but nothing in Nicole's story sounds like any new concerning Jeane Best. There are pages of evidence of her continued wrong doing. It is amazing that you are always so concerned at the treatment Jeane and her daughter bring upon themselves. What's the story with you guys? Why do you soil your own reputation defending them?

Tim,
You, and many others here, will put credence in allegations at whatever whim suits you. Others prefer reasonable evidence before casting their lot. My reputation is just fine with my posts here. If, on the other hand, I came here half-cocked, or attacked your credibility because a son, father, brother, etc, was of criminal background, as you chose to do in your first post, then my reputation, integrity, and everything else that I felt held honor, would be in doubt. Whatever the true story here, and we certainly don't know it based on what has been presented so far, one thing is not in doubt. That would be that you are an assclown. A fool. A punk. All just IMMHO, as usual.

Bingo!!

Dan you hit the nail on the head.

Responsibility of that dragon was passed on when it was delivered to you as a buyer, if you suspected a problem the prudent thing would have been to take that dragon to a Vet and have it checked out.

Sorry about the loss of your dragon, but a Vet visit could have prevented that. :(
