In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Jeane Best - Sold me an emaciated chameleon

As someone who knows more about iguanas, geckos, snakes and turtles, what is "flushing his eyes" mean when youre talking about a chameleon?

Anyway, I really hope that he comes through for you.
Hes a cute little thing.

Chameleon's eyes are in a turret when they get an irritation or get debris in their eye they will squeeze the turret usually when they are getting misted. It can freak you out the first time you see it because their eyes bulge out really far.

Obviously you purchased the animal through a KS ad. You need to send an abuse complaint to KS. I don't know if selling an obviously sick/emaciated animal would qualify as "fraud", but at the very least, if Jeane is indeed selling someone else's animals (i.e. Wendy's) that was implied earlier in the thread, then she is breaking KS's rules "You may NOT post advertisements for other individuals, regardless of whether they are friends, relatives or family members."

Not only did I imply that Jeane was selling her daughters reptiles, I know for a fact that Jeane is selling her daughter Wendy's reptiles, I have an email from Jeane stating that.:shootfoot

If Jeff, or Melody over at KS want the email, all they need to do is email that request, and I'll be more than happy to send it their way.

If she doesn't know chameleons, she may not know what they look like when healthy. Most people who don't keep chameleons might not recognize the issues with your new purchase. That being said, as a seller, you need to know this basic health information. Your solution of trying to nurse him back to health for a while or at least keep him until the weather breaks sounds reasonable, however, letting someone keep an animal for 30 to 60 days would not be something i would choose to do as a seller. I also would not end up in her situation because I would not have sold him that way. Shipping temps are also not too high now either. I use Fed Ex overnight with hub pick up and I've been shipping my panthers and veileds all summer long with zero DOA' s, and it was hotter in July than it is now.

I have also purchased many chameleons from Chameleons Northwest and wanted to say that their animals are perfect and healthy every time. Im sure he looked a lot different when this seller originally received him.

Jeane and Wendy have been intertwined for years selling reptiles. It's a mother-daughter business. Jeane was more widely known for her bearded dragon end and Wendy for her more diversified species herp sales. Wendy raised/bred/sold chams for a long time a few years back, largely subsidized in part by a well-known cham breeder in FL, so claiming ignorance of cham husbandry and health is absolutely no excuse. Wendy's also done most of the talking, advertising, vending and moving the inventory in recent years.

Wendy has a prior history of using her mother's (and aunt's) Fauna, Paypal and email accounts, so even though the emails may indicate they are Jeane's, they may well be from Wendy herself.
I noticed that Wendy's "Reptile Addictions" website is now pushing exotic mammals, not reptiles, and Jeane's site (http://www.rivercityreptiles.webs.com ) has nothing but the TOS the OP viewed and a disclaimer that she (Jeane) is no longer breeding dragons.

It seems like since they no longer have a brick-and-mortar storefront for herps, they are trying to dump all the reptile stock and moving on to selling exotic mammals (and feeders).

Shipping a live, young, fragile cham USPS is something that BOTH of them are keenly aware is not acceptable. If I'm not mistaken, Jeane Best works for (or at least used to) Fed Ex.

Neither is naive to husbandry or health issues or shipping.

As far as that cham coming from ChameleonsNW, I didn't catch that in the email exchange. I saw where Jeane (or Wendy) did provide the link for cham care when trying to pass the buck, but nothing that indicated the cham came from ChamsNW. Did I miss something?

In the original ad, Jeane stated that this cham was from ChamsNW. The ad has since then been deleted. I've already verified that neither Jeane nor Wendy purchased this chameleon from ChamsNW.

Also, I want to thank those of you who mentioned kingsnake. I'm going to report it. Thanks Lynn for offering to submit your emails.

...Wendy raised/bred/sold chams for a long time a few years back, largely subsidized in part by a well-known cham breeder in FL,...
A bit off-topic, but I was around for the original Bianca Trump debacle. I remember thinking that this nameless Floridian's support for Wendy seemed oddly overzealous and misplaced. I must have somehow managed to miss the fact they they were in bed together, at least figuratively, in the business sense. Was this common knowledge? All this time I just assumed he was just a big fan of Wendy's more prurient endeavors.

Oh boy. Wendy and Jean again? Yeah. I hoped that they disappeared and moved on to something else.

Luis, I am sorry that you got roped in by these women. They do have a very sorted history as the threads posted show. That poor baby got lucky, though, to end up with someone who cares enough to nurse it back to health.

This might be off topic, but I just want to give you a bit of rehab advice. Be slow with introducing food, as a dehydrated animal can suffer kidney damage if it eats too much protein before it is well hydrated. This might not even show up for awhile. If you can afford them once he is hydrated, silk worms are the bug of choice when I am rehabbing an emaciated insectivore. They are easy to digest and they are very nutritious.

Good luck. I hope you will give us updates.

Thanks Donna, so far I've tried crickets, silkworms, hornworms, roaches, wax worms and phoenix worms. I've haven't gotten him to eat on his own yet, I have been feeding him through a syringe, and even then he hasn't eaten much. The good thing is we haven't had to force him. He will sit and drink a bit of bug juice from the syringe until he's had enough.

Luis,
Animals are amazing in that they often know what they need. That is why he is more interested in the fluids right now, probably.

If you think he is hydrated pretty well, then there is a product that I use to rehab, ReptaAide, which is a critical care formula that is made to feed animals that are emaciated. They love the taste and it will increase their appetite as well. It is similar to jump start, but I like it better because it isn't molasses based. Might be worth a try in addition to what you are doing. You can make it thin and slowly thicken it up as he gets more hydrated.

Hope this isn't too off topic. ;)

Can you determine if she posted her own pic or borrowed someone elses? I think she and/or Wendy were accused of using other people's pics on their online storefront. I think that came out in a BOI thread a few years ago.

Using TinEye I could not find that the photo was used anywhere else.

Pulling the exif data I was able to determine that the picture was taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT on 07/13/12 and then edited with Adobe Photoshop CS2 on 07/31/12.

Im assuming this is her, theres a photo of a lady holding a Wallaby and says her name is Wendy.

Looks like that is Jeane's FB. I assume that is a photo of Jeane. I know it is not Wendy.
Here's Wendy's MySpace with her photo and the Wallaby.

I don't see any reason to believe the photo of the cham is stolen. Wendy's no stranger to cham keeping/breeding/selling. Given history, I'd personally think Wendy posted the ad for the cham at KS, not Jeane. (Also, note the mistakes, misspelling; ie, "CCB" and "Nosey B".

What I find interesting though, is that many of the animals Wendy-ReptileAddictions has listed here in the classifieds are also listed at KS under Jeane's name/account. (Burmese torts, geckos, dragons)

Not that there is anything inherently wrong with that, but it is misleading IMO and could cause confusion to someone not familiar with Wendy and Jeane.

And for whoever asked, they are from Spokane.
