    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I think Jeff would have a very hard time proving that he lost sales just because of kingsnakes.com...
There would be more then overwhelming proof that ALOT of the revenue lost was due to the antics Mike touched on Censorship , harboring of scammers & theives and many more self destructive ways they created.
 
Darin has brought up a point that I think I need to expand on.

My wife was a legal assistant and paralegal in Maryland for a long time when we lived up there. She knows a lot about how these processes work. And I know for a fact that she would not give me bad advice. She told me she has seen MANY cases that got jeopardized and even lost by clients saying the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person. So as long as there is ongoing litigation, it is best that I say as little as possible to anyone about this situation. Items that are public record are fair game, which is why I posted the lawsuit, as well as other such material. But things such as my opinions or thoughts on the matter will have to remain private for the duration.

Of course, this is rather difficult for me as I am rather outspoken in my beliefs and opinions, but I think I need to wear a muzzle for a while.

Anyway, as far as the questions that have been asked of me are concerned, I do hope my silence in some instances is not construed as being dodging the questions. Even saying why I cannot answer some specific questions could be revealing to people I would not want to have such things revealed to.

Also, bear in mind that time is at a premium right now, so even those questions I would feel safe in answering may take more time to do than I can allocate for that purpose.

As far as the discussions of financial help that have popped up here and there, yes, that would definitely be appreciated. Some people have already donated, and I am grateful for their kindness. I never intended for this site to be a money making proposition for me, but then again, I never dreamed it would be the financial drain that it has suddenly become either. I would be real surprised if at any given month this site has EVER operated in the black for me.

I have kept this site (and especially the BOI) up, no matter what the effort or cost, over the last several years because I felt it was helping us all. I have to admit, that now that I personally need some help, I am truly wondering how much help will be forthcoming from you all. I think many of you know what is really at stake here, and that this is NOT truly about kingsnakes.com at all, in my opinion. (oops! So much for keeping that muzzle on!)
 
Some of us who don't sell 30,000.00 a month may need to wait until we have some babies out and sold to make financial contributions to you Rich. I suspect that you will see that as the breeding season progresses. Whether you make it to court soon or not you'll being seeing some of my green about summer time.

I am not renewing my account with anyone else, well I only had the one and it expired in Jan. anyway, and will be using Fauna for whatever I do produce this year.

I too was having financial problems Rich. Believe it or not, the users of my site actually helped save my house from being reposessed through their donations. While I am still quite a bit in the hole, I can see the light.

You have 4 times more people visiting your site on a daily basis than I do, and these people CARE about the site, just as my users (some are users on both) do.

I have no doubt that you will recieve the help you ask for, and you will also recieve mine in any way possible. While my current situation precludes me from financial donations, I am more than willing to help in any other way possible! (web site help, emails, etc...)

It appears that the "Lawsuit Link" on Kingsnake has been removed from the top of the pages. I did not bookmark it so Im not sure if it is still accessable but i thought it was noteworthy to mention that the red letter links are gone.

I was wondering if I could be sued if I purchase the domain ringsnake.com oh well I better not chance it...there goes my dreams of being the number one forum/breeder/site for ringsnakes... :( lol
 
Ouch! What a non-event this turned out to be Rich.

I believe I remember an event in one of the original BOI soap segments where someone got a nasty letter from a certain cricket company and the entire armada was poised to set sail and storm the castle because of it. Threats of boycotts, were there not? But here, you have actually been served with papers over a frivolous claim of trademarking a name so widely used in this business meaning a particular type of snake, with obviously maliciously derived intent, and the yawns of lack of interest and concern are about to put me to bed.

So what is different about this situation when compared with the cricket company affair??? Is Riches state less of concern or of less common interest than the girl who was threatened by that cricket company??? Or is Jeffie considered as less of a genuine real threat to Rich than that cricket company was to that girl--- darn, what was her name?? I mean, obviously this entire site is at risk over this as well as Riches business and possibly even his home, and where are the protests??? Where is the talk of boycotting kingsnake.com, Jeffie and everything else related??? How many people who visit this site every day have active commercial accounts over there and quite likely continue to do so, no matter what happens to Rich??? It was mentioned several times in this thread that those people spending their money with Jeffie are giving fuel to the fire that is intent on burning up the person who gives you this site and it is just unimportant or of little or no consequence to you at all??? Is this still a personal issue??? Is this a 'it is just business' situation???

I believe I warned him that you would all just leave his butt flapping in the breese when the chips were down. I had hoped I was wrong.

Rich - my opinion on what you should do. Charge admission for the BOI. Flat out do it now. So many people have given lip service saying how valuable this site is to the industry, but where are they now when you are facing at the very least some very substantial legal bills. You have been told that the person with the deepest pockets will likely win this battle, but whose pockets is nearly everyone who visits this site helping to make deeper??? Yours??? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to count up the number of banner ads here and anything else you actually charge $$$ for to see what this site brings in for you. So start charging the people here to use what you have built, or just hand it over to Jeffie as he wants and be done with the whole damnned mess. What is it here, Rich, that is worth you spending tens of thousands of dollars out of your own pocket to try to save??? How much have you allready put into it that you will never get back again??? Are you really that much of a masochist that you will continue with this after watching people turn their back on you??? For what???

Somebody do a poll, please. How many people here have even emailed Jeffie about this thing??? If more than three people out of the eight thousand registered members even lifted a finger to do that I will be shocked beyond words. Matter of fact, go over to kingsnake right now and see how many people who make a point of strutting their stuff here to get their name and website in lights are happily posting ads over there instead of over here. Go ahead, do it and see.

Time to make a choice, bud. You are all alone in this one.

as it may appear, is a bit premature at this jucture. This suit is not even 10 days old. What do you expect people to do......jump out of windows to protest Jeffs actions.

First off, Rich is a big boy, and he can handle this as he is , without fanfare. This is something that Jeff is realizing since he himself has taken the information about the suit off his own website. I am sure his attorneys advised him that Jeffs position may not be so popular, so why advertise it.

Secondly the fact that people are not openly outragous over what has occured does not reflect anything. When and if the time comes ... some private emailing between members to help Rich may be happening .And that volume may increase as this suit progresses Again without fanfare!

You cannot charge admission into the BOI everytime someone rattles a tree with litigation and expect someone to pay for a personal purchase. That is what Rich did. His purchase of Kingsnakes was private and has nothing to do with Fauna. He bought it, and was looking to sell it. Had he had a buyer and made money off the site, that would have been the end of it. But Rich and Jeff are not what you would consider friendly enemies.I am sure as many know, their are underlying difficulties here. But why jeapordize something good as the BOI with a fee. When and if the time comes I would prefer to receive a private letter from Rich or his supporters asking for help.....That seems to make more sense to me that attempting to send Jeff an email or leaving Kingsnake, which also is not necessarily the smartest thing to do either.

The fact that I advertise on Kingsnake should not reflect my opinions, attitudes or how I feel about this site or suit. Now that the initial fanfare is over, even for Jeff, once the smoke clears, he may realize that sometimes more tears are shed for the answered prayers than the unanswered ones, and this may become a bigger David and Goliath than Jeff may have realized, but right now, lets have cool heads prevail, lets keep our mouths shut, and when the time comes, I am sure Rich will have the financial help he may require. Not based on Jeffs suit, but on the quality of the man and the site he has offered for free!

Although I have not sent Jeff a personal email I have, on this site and on the Google board, made my thoughts of him, his site, and the lawsuit very clear. I chose to put it on two open forums for 1 reason only. I wanted everyone to read it. I am not suggesting my posts are 100 factual, but I do think it will get people to think about what has happened with Kingsnake over the last year and POSSIBLY why it did. I still believe that the outrageous price increase that happened about a year ago (being that it was the same time that Jeff went on his tyrade regarding Rich) was to fund this STUPID lawsuit. I know Jeff is reading that thread over on Google.com and seeing the lack of support he is receiving from ANYONE.
I do not have a classified acct so Jeff receives ZERO money from me. I do not have banners over there so no intake of money there either.
Although I think this WILL hurt Jeff more than he ever thought Rich was hurting him (although I still say the lawsuit and the quoted loss is obsurd) it will only be a matter of time.

Just my opinion.

Considering that you dug a grave for yourself by posting your comments regarding Kingnsake, you are making it more difficult for Rich as well. If you were a participating advertiser on Kingsnake and decided to show your outrage by leaving their community that would be one thing. But your not an advertiser, so your loss to Kingsnake has no effect on their pocketbook!

What I can tell you is that if you are correct and Jeff does read your post, you will be glad to know that you will never be an advertiser! Now that may not mean much to you, but it does to other people who happen to make a livelyhood from their services. This business about being upset over the fact that Jeff raised his prices are his reasons alone. You cannot speculate why these things are being done as well as the increase in the gas prices. But they do have merit, and I for one would hope that the advertising would even be higher than they are now. I have my own reasons, and they are not because of a potential lawsuit with Rich!
 
Roger, need I point out that you're proposing actions that are counterproductive both to this site and to Rich's defense in the lawsuit?

Try not to be so cynical. It'll only give you ulcers and won't accomplish much of anything positive.
 
Even if you are not an advertiser on a meaessage board, leaving a site DOES have consequences.

First of all banner advertising requires a proven track record of "impressions" ( the number of times the ad appears in a user's browser) and "click thru's" (the number of times someone actually clicks on the ad).

By participating in a site at all, you generate "impressions" just by surfing through the site. Now those statistics are used to show advertisers that their ads are being seen, Therefore if you no longer visit the site (whether you advertise or pay for services or not) you don't generate traffic. And advertisers pay based on traffic.

Just a little lesson in the power of one person on the web. Not to mention the fact that if a person has a good experience they tell 3 people, but if they have a bad one, they tell 10 or more. One vocal person leaving a site could brin about as many as 10 non-vocal people deciding it's not worth it to stay there also.

Google does not host rec.pets.herp Google just happens to be one of any number of ways to access a gateway into usenet. I myself subscribed to and access rec.pets.herp through AOL at keyword newsgroup rather than use any of the internet gateways because I like the format better. It's probably one of the very few good things about AOL lol.
