In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info JERRY TRESSER

I'm not a fan of playing the game of haggling. Why don't people haggle say Wal Mart or the grocery store.

I agree with the above statement. It's like walking into a McDonalds and looking at the dollar menu and then offering the teller 50 cents for two pies. You can't do that at Wal Mart or KFC or the gas station. Why would you think it's OK to do it for pets? I don't see the word "FIRM" on the dollar menu or on a gas pump. When I see something for sale here or on other sites, I look at the price, and if I like it, I inquire. If I think it's too high, I move on. I have no right to question someone else's prices. As an "old guy", I'm more then happy to listen to anyone's advice, even a young guy. Sometimes, to my suprise, young guys come up with some good ideas. As Applegate likes to tell me, "I've got a couple more years on you, that's all". Of course breeding herps for 36 years might be the reason we old guys get cranky at young guys. It's possible. Oh, and Jerry, I'm going to copy that photo you posted and stick it on my front door. It will keep the kids and stray cats away. At least Tom hasn't changed. He looked old when I was a kid.

Hey Ken,

Bob Applegate looks older then both of us.... I remeber him well as I used to sell to him... As a point of information, Chris from LA Reptiles was 17 when she was buying from me .. Do you know Jerry Marzak. He is younger but looks terrible !!! I am sure he will appreciate that... I had to hold him up for the photo ! But its Randall that I need a photo of... Or better yet my old buddy Hank, wherever he is !.... Keep in touch....

By the way, when I met Jerry he was working as a DEA agent, and I of course was in NYPD, its just somewhat coincidental that we should meet over reptiles (2 and 4 legged)

It's been years since I've seen Bob Applegate and even longer than meeting Jerry Marzak in Long Island while he was in uniform. I haven't seen Hank for several years but it's normal for Hank to disappear for years and suddenly surface... All these old timers are looking like old farts with the exception of me.....lol

Any pics of Jerry Marzak?

You need to start an old farts thread

Randall, and Ken, hope all is well.. Yes the old cranky guy is back... Trying to teach these youngsters how to make money... The old fashion way..... My spellcheck needs to be updated..... 12 mispelled words is to much for me to bare (bear).... Its only a pun.... Regards, and there is no more posting as this topic is now muted until the next storm I encounter..... Before I forget, here is a photo for your enjoyment Randall.... Regards, JERRY

Funny more people would agree with my statement then yours...Your the one who cant STAY ON TOPIC..You must have head up rectum syndrome...Your post have nothing to do with this thread at all...bye now....

Why are we having a reunion on the BOI? Bottom line is your customer service is sub par.... Thats what this thread is about, not about who you have pictures with your arms around...

Jerry... you said there is no loyality in reptiles.

I disagree

If Sean from VMSHerp produces what I am after I will check his site (or contact him directly) before I look elsewhere. His customer service is top notch and because of that... I will go to him FIRST.

You say that you deal in high end herps and that if someone is not willing to pay your asking price then they probably dont have the funds anyways (just paraphrasing here).

This may not be the case... one thing I have learned from reading all the financial sites that I do.... the rich stay rich by not paying full price when they can. Sure I agree... your not going to go into a retail store (Normally) and try to haggle for price. But why talk down to those that do.

Everyone in this business has two prices on their animals.

What they hope to get for it... and whats the lowest they will sell it for. Now depending on the individual will dictate on how close or far appart those two numbers really are.

Very well said Kevin. If you don't mind I would also like to add something else to what you said. You hit the nail on the head with everyone having 2 prices. The point of the matter is no one walks into Wal-Mart or McDonalds demanding a lower price, because everyone knows that the company is not willing to do so. Its ridiculous to compare the reptile market to a company like Wal-Mart. If you want to compare it to something, it is comparable to the housing market, or a car dealership. Things are priced where they would like to sell it at, but know that they might be talked down. Granted sometimes a car lot might want to move a car really really bad so they put the lowest price on the window they can afford to move it at, but when you approach that salesman trying to wheel and deal on that car the salesman doesn't make fun of you and tell you that you cant afford the car, he will politely tell you that the car is already marked down as low as it is willing to go.

I would also like to touch on the comment Jerry made about if someone (such as myself) approaches him and asks him to lower the price, that must not mean that person has the money for the purchase. I would like to tell you Jerry you are wrong, and I am a prime example of that. Just today I have not only purchased a pair of young adult Amyae, but I also purchased a pair of Wheeleri who will be ready to breed later this year.
Lastly, on the statement made by Jerry saying the young adult pairs of Amyae aren't going for $1,000-1,200...The pair I just purchased were priced at $1,000...

Wow ! This has been an interesting post.
It is rare that i comment on such things that are not of my concern, but after all that has been said i feel compelled to throw my 2 cents worth in.

Jerry, I have not met you, and i understand that over the years you have developed TOS that work for your business, I think that's great, however I must disagree with a few things you have mentioned. First is loyalty I Have more than 3 decades of retail experience and more than 20 years in herps, customer loyalty is EVERYTHING, customers are loyal when they recieve quality, respect and good service, at a fair price, i mention price last as it is the least concern when the customer gets the service and quality they expect. Based on what you said your standards are, i would not hesitate to make a purchase from you.
That being said, i am appalled at your manner of weeding out the "unqualified" perspective buyers, my word how can you pre judge any buyer just by them asking if you "can do any better on the price", just because they ask doesn't mean they can't afford it, i have had many ask the same question at shows, and if i want to hold my price on that particular animal i RESPECTFULLY explain to the customer the particulars of the animal in question and why he is that price, and that i must decline any lower offers, in most, not all cases the customer will take out the wad of cash and say " your right he is awesome i'll take him". and next show that customer is back with friends saying "you have to buy from this guy he's got the best , you'll pay a little more but he's the only one i'll buy from, the quality is so good"

My point is loyalty IS there, diplomacy, politeness and common courtesy go a long long way, even when you are holding your price. You take an awful risk in assuming someone cannot "afford" your price, if I did that there would be many customers of mine that would not have come back to spend thousands with me time after time for both animals and custom built cages.

A note to prospective buyers you too must have some courtesy, think about all the time and money we as breeders invest to ensure the best quality, healthiest animals we can possibly provide for you as a buyer, it is a 16 hr a day process, we get a mere pitance an hour for our labor time invested, so if you are interested in something, woo us a little first before offering less which we may, or, may not accept, consider offering payments first, sometimes that will get you a little price drop voluntarily, or maybe an offer to pick up some or all of the shipping.

One word covers it all "Respect", remember it, use it.
Old dogs and young dogs CAN learn new ways

Jerry, hope to meet you some day, i would love to see some of your quality animals

That's all i have to say

Kevin B
you're right on " the rich stay rich" is so on the Money (pun intended) by not paying full price where ever and whenever they don't have to, right down to their "seniors 10 cent discount", I have many aquaintences that can buy me 10 times over , and the first thing out of them is, "what's the discount" or "how much ya gonna knock off the price for me"
I've heard it a thousand times, even from other breeders, it doesn't surprise me, it's expected ! if someone doesn't say it that's when i go into shock :)

Eh so Jerry's an "older" grouchy, set in his ways kind of dude. I have a husband that is like that but not as old (sorry Jer). I don't really think this thread is BOI worthy. Just my opinion. I'd still buy from Jerry if he had what I wanted.
