Chris, I really don't understand your logic here. While I can agree that a child's involvement, depending on age should be to an extent limited (I can't see a five year old having the judgement to choose wisely on how to "invest" a few thousand dollars on their own) , I have always found that letting a child start young and learn as they go...given proper parental guidance...is the best way to raise an educated, responsible adult. Really, if you get deep enough into ANY "industry", whether it be herps, horses, guns, cars, antiques...you are going to find just as many "preditors" (sic) that are willing to take advantage of anyone, child or adult. Does this mean that we should completely shelter our children from all of this, and then assume that the day they turn 18, they will just "know" how to deal with these kinds of unscrupulous people? Or just say to ourselves, "Oh well, he's an adult now...tough luck!" Not hardly. If we give our kids the chance to participate and learn from an early age, we are giving them the tools to function much more responsibly and wisely as an adult.
That said...this guy was fully aware that he was messing with a kid as well as an adult. He KNEW. I believe that makes the child's inclusion in this thread more than acceptable, IMHO.

Sorry this happened Jason. I'm blown away that some of you think it's irresponsible to include children in our hobby. Assuming that he doesn't allow access to the hot collection, which makes sense because he did trade some hots for a snake that his children can handle. My son is included with my collection and both my wife and son have a snake that is theirs. It teaches responsibility in fact; regular care and feeding, making intelligent purchases, economics, genetics, appreciation of nature, and respect for the animals we work with. To me those are tremendous benefits for a HOBBY that I love anyways. I mean what's cooler then getting to play with snakes, watch nature work, and get to do all this with my family? Best of luck and I hope they don't loose faith. I'm proud to belong to a community that would step foward to help so eagerly, and have more respect for your refusal Jason.
The melodramatics here are suffocating.... give your kids your credit card and don't tell them where to go or what to spend it on. While you're at it, give them the car keys and send them out after dark.
I'm sure that alot of kids would have done backflips had their fathers given them a gun to play with as well. Maybe he should let them drive his car as well. What the heck, give the child his credit card. At least now people will know how to scam fauna's users into sending them free stuff. Hey, my kid got scammed! Had nothing to do with my judgement! Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money!
