In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Just got this from SYR

well both my snakes ended up arriving at 5 pm instead of early. it must have been the labaling but im not pointing fingers at either parties. i just hope this issue with SYR gets resolved quickly

I can't see this lasting too long as my understanding is that SYR is averaging around 2,000 packages a month right now, and it's not even baby season yet....

That's a lot of packages that are sent using a premium service. 2,000 packages at around 40 bucks a pop.... $80,000 worth of business they will be missing a month. They will be out over a million dollars in business this year that will go straight to FedEx. I'm sure once they get a chance to review the small amount of mishaps and the large amount of business on the line they will open it back up.

Agree...

I haven't receive snakes via Fedex... but (PERSONALLY) I do not like UPS.. 3 times that snakes arrive at my house, The driver Literately throw the boxes in my front door and leave, did not wait for signature or anything... Boxes clearly said "Perishable". Im not saying its UPS fault, but some drivers just dont care.. What I do now... I go to my front yard and 30 - 40 mins before arrival to receive packages in my hands. Also, delivery time varies all the time .. sometimes at 9 some at noon... never the same driver for some reason o_O

I'm always outside waiting for any package I am expecting to receive. My UPS driver accused me of having the same GPS they use to know where their drivers are. The same driver stated to me that nobody in their right mind would be out in this weather (it was 5° and I was out shoveling my driveway, not waiting for any reptiles but a shipment of crickets), but who ever said I was in my right mind? :crazy03:

Personally Id like the climate controlled truck for a little more $$ vs 100+* in the back of a UPS truck.

Kevin - If the package was properly insulated, would it make much of a difference? Maybe a degree or two but not 15+ I would not think! Just curious as I have wondered this same thing.

Matt - Do you think it is SYR or UPS that put a hold on it? I wish I knew more about the situation!

but who ever said I was in my right mind?

Uh, no one? :D

Sorry, SYR - it's FedEx or nuthin' for me, coming or going.
UPS is too unreliable here, in my experience.

Actually.. from my tests ... it does. I ran my packaging against that of my competitor (I create my own boxes) ... and mine held temps twice as good as thier boxes. HOWEVER.... why put your boxes to extreme temps if you dont have to. I pack for the worst and hope for the best.

I am really not to suprised that SYR service has been suspended. Because I have had a shipment come through HORRIBLY packed in a regualar cardboard box with no insulation I have decieded if the people I purchase from are not FedEx certified I will not purchase an animal that must be shipped from them.

I just like the way fed ex handles things. Yea their not perfect but they do require a box inspection so that at least people have a general idea of what they are doing with shipping. It's not fool proof but I feel the minimal effort needed to become FedEx certified demonstrates a level of commitment that I look for in a seller. (not saying anything bad about everyone who used SYR) But I have seen a few really bad shipping jobs that probably wouldn't have happened if those folks where fedex certified.

the reason your packages have been left on your porch is because the shipper did not specify, when he set the shipping date and info, "SIGN FOR DELIVERY"...it is an extra cost with SYR b/c the driver actually has to wait for someone to open the door and if no one opens he has to write a slip....the shipper was probably trying to save an extra $5...so when your driver just leaves the package on your door...it's probably the shippers fault...

Just an example since we are getting into summer.

Cool packs melt... its a fact of life. How fast they melt (and thus quit cooling) depends on the insulation in your box and the outside temps. The better your insulation and the lower the outside temps... the longer your cool pack will last.

With that in mind.. you take the same box and the same cool pack... and your animal will be protected longer if it is shipped via FedEx in one of their climate controlled express vans vs shipping with UPS in their hot ... no AC even for the driver... delivery trucks.

Personally... Id rather my animal be comfortable for longer periods of time vs.... hoping something doesnt go wrong in shipping and they get delivered late.

I know there are alot of variables that cant be accounted for... and Im not bashing UPS as a company... but for the sake of shipping live animals... I am bashing on their equipment. I'll choose a van with some sort of air over a hot brown truck anyday.

$80,000 a month sounds like a lot of money to be handing over to the competition (FEDEX). Sounds like fedex is the way to go, even though I've had countless reptiles outgoing and incoming shipped through SYR and everything went great. It does seem kind of ironic that this is happening right in the middle of the python ban going down. Wonder if it has anything to do with it until this whole thing blows over?? I would think this is too big of an industry I read the other day the reptile industry brings in over $2 billion a year so I can't imagine them doing anything too drastic.

Every package I send out with FedEx is "Signature Required".... I dont think it costs me anything extra.. but I will check next time I prepair a shipment... will get the quote before and after selecting that option.

sounds like good idea..i have always shipped SYR and they charge like an extra $4.10 for "SIGNATURE REQUIRED" option...

also i never knew that when shipping reptiles with fedex they get transported in a small temp controlled van.. is that an extra option or is it standard for all Fedex Overnight shipments?

This really sucks for all of us, but in the end it may suck a lot more for the people at S.Y.R.

It only sucks if you dont spend the time to set up a free account with FedEx and do what it takes to get certified. It really isn't that difficult.

i'm lucky to have both ups and fedex business accounts. :) i generally ship ups through my business because it seems to be even less expensive than SYR and i know my drivers pretty well.

I can ONLY speak about my shipments... but I will assume it is the case everywhere.

Every regular shipment I get comes in the big delivery trucks like UPS uses... however my express shipments allways come in some sort of van or like the Freightliner delivery vans. Even my UPS driver told me those delivery vans with FedEx are temp controlled.

Here is what I am thinking... Since there is a smaller number of express shipments vs regular shipments... they put them on a different delivery truck to get them to you faster. :shrug01:

dunno

i too get my snakes via temp controlled van when delivered fedex to my workplace. i've even somehow got one delivered on a fedex freight semi since we get stuff all the time overnight priority a.m. :D
