In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Just got this from SYR

And one more thought that just had to pop out, is the reason for the differentiation between a business and residential maybe simply for the fact that a business has people there during business hours to make sure to receive a life shipment while a business run out of a home sometimes does not? Again, trying to make sure it is in the best interest for the animals?

not everyone works during the day ;) but I can see your point.

actually, a legal way, and really THE way they really want you to do as told by inspectors here in Miami for FWS is....
At MINIMUM label it wildlife or harmless reptile.
When asked what if your worried about theft or treatment of box, they said then inside needs ot be an invoice with common and scientific name, but OUTSIDE of box has to have the scientific name.
Now I said well, PYTHON REGIUS will tell someone that it is a python, which is worse. They said for animals like that they would accept P. Regius on the box with the quantity. So if it is a shipment of 5 ball pythons, they want you to put 5 - P. Regius.
Inside the same thing but spelled out and with the common name.
You dont have to label it snakes, or wildlife. That is your choice, but it has to be labeled for FWS to know what is in it, not other people. If they dont regonize a scientific name, ex: Pogona vitticeps, they open box( which they never do) and check the invoice or contents list to see what it is and make sure its ok to ship across state lines.

Now if you cant ship them via the policy of the carrier, thats another story. As long as you label it as above your federally LEGAL. You cant get in trouble by UPS or fedex calling the fws, or the like as its labeled properly for interstate trravel by law. Now the only thing that can happen is they drop your account.

I work 10-12 hour days plus a bit on weekends for my small business run out of my home...And not all during normal business hours! :ack2:

I think you can get homes rezoned for business/residential, but it has to be two separate units (and mine is, we're not renting it out anymore and will be remodeling for an office). I think it makes sense that it's all based on zoning. I imagine that would be relatively easy to stay up-to-date on for the automated system on FedEx.

Anyway...This is a BOI thread about SYR/UPS, not FedEx. It would probably be advisable to stay on that topic rather then trying to deflect attention from SYR's practices.

For UPS in particular, I have an interesting tidbit of information others might find useful..."OUT FOR DELIVERY" on your UPS tracking doesn't necessarily mean your package is actually out for delivery...It's an automated computer note. They won't know where your package is if it's miss-routed until it's scanned again that evening or following morning where it ended up. Basically I had a package that was supposed to be delivered Monday that didn't arrive when my driver did even though it was "OUT FOR DELIVERY" and then yesterday I get an identical tracking message that it's "OUT FOR DELIVERY" in New York! I call UPS and they explain to me that the messages are automated by the computer system and don't actually mean your package is on a delivery truck! So now I won't get my package until tomorrow. No live animals, just print materials...But it still annoyed me being three days late.

Actually, read the law. I've attached the PDF here for you, directly from USF&W. It's been copy/pasted three times in this thread now. :bandhead0 Yes, you can be more detailed on the outside of the package if you choose, but you are not required to. What I posted are the minimum requirements, what you have to do. A packing list in a pouch on the outside of a package is just as sufficient as writing all over the box.

For those who can't read the pdf, or can't be bothered, you DO still need to clearly mark the outside of the box 'live wildlife' or 'live harmless reptiles', something like that.

Thanks for that info Steph... I know when my boa got missrouted to Miami... it was showing out for delivery once it got there... and I was freaking... out to delivery where... the city driver isnt gonna drive from Miami, FL up to AR.

Ok, I have a stupid question- forgive me if this has been asked/answered already- i have already been online reading for a long time prior to reading this and only made it a few pages back ( was reading in reverse).

If fedex cannot ship to residentual areas- as in your home- then how are we able to get snakes shipped to us then?

thought of something afterwards- have shipment held at the closest fedex hub? Wo
uld that be considered a business to be able to ship to? or perhaps my work since that is a business? or does the business have to specifically be a pet store?

So what about the 75% of life on this planet that doesn't have a common name. I am not a 100% on how many reptiles that is but I know with fish 80-90% don't have COMMON names

The outside of the box does not have to list the scientific name. At a minimum the outside of the package must say "Fish" or "Wildlife." Please read the documentation on fish/wildlife shipment labeling from the USF&W that has been posted several times in this thread (Reference 14.82).

As for not all species of fish/wildlife having common names, I'm sure the scientific name would suffice if their simply isn't a common option. Just use a little common sense there. The reason why the would prefer common over scientific would be that it's more commonly known by that name rather then its scientific.

Out of curiosity, is Clown fish the scientific name for that specific fish? They dont have another name? I am not trying to be condescending, just have no clue it all.

There are a bunch of different species of Clownfish, one example would be Amphiprion ocellaris according to Wikipedia :)

I'LL ADD MY FACTS TO THIS. FED EX TRUCKS ARE NOT, I REPEAT, ARE NOT CLIMATE CONTROLLED. THE BACK OF THE TRUCK IS JUST LIKE UPS. NO AC IN THE SUMMER AND NO HEAT IN THE WINTER. JUST MAKING SURE THE FACT IS CORRECT. UPS ALSO HAS A HIGHER PERCENT DELIVERED ON TIME THAN FED-EX, AGAIN FACT. HOPE IT HELPS IN THE FUTURE. ALSO, THAT IS WHY ANYONE SHIPPING SHOULD SHIP NEXT DAY AIR ONLY! NOT GROUND OR 2 DAY.

CAPS LOCK; find it, use it... :D

Does someone work for UPS? :)

The regular "box trucks" for FedEx are the same as the UPS trucks, yes... but the "Overnight Express" vehicles are definitely climate-controlled...

Bleck. Stop "yelling." Facts should have documentation to support them, otherwise it's an opinion. My FedEx overnight shipments have been 95% on time...My UPS overnight shipments have been 0% on time... :shrug01:

As for whether the Express Vans (not the Ground Box Trucks like UPS) are climate controlled, I haven't seen whether they truly are or not, but I would think it would be really odd to have those vans pulled off the line without heat or air conditioning. I couldn't find anything online about it. Only thing I could find is they're going to be using hybrids. :shrug01:

I think it is an area by area thing. I always pick my snakes up at the hub but when the Fed Ex driver showed up every morning for the overnight deliveries where I used to work they were driving a normal Fed Ex truck.
