In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy JWI (Joe Imperatori) selling Sri Lankan stars

I am not getting any free tortoises and that was never my intention. I read the rules but after thinking about it and praying, I feel as if it's not right for me to steal bread off of a mans table by making him lose money. If he continues his ways then he will only do that for himself. So if you could find it in your heart, please remove the post even though the rules say different.

Been on this site for a lot of years Jeremy and I can say with fair certainty...it ain't gonna happen.

Please note the repeated avoidance of the issue at hand-- the constant diverting of the main point (my shell-rotted animal that I received), and the use of ad hominem attacks when he no longer is able to disprove me. This is childish behavior at its best, and I'm absolutely thrilled that starry_night has taken the courage to punish this criminal. This guy should be put away in court, and should never be allowed to sell another tortoise again.

Joe,

I always thought that you were an honest guy, and you seemed like it, but the tortoise you sold me has extreme shell rot on the plastron.

Please give me a call, as I am very upset about this.
Ici

I sent you a perfect animal and you for some reason have started all of this! You are the only person I have ever sold an adult Sri to. I have had no problems with anyone else did not want to even sell this animal!!!! But, because "I thought we were friends " I helped you out as you pleaded with me to help you out. I had to ship the tortoise to an unknown person as you could not give me your address for 3 days (Which I thought was weird!) Even though I had people tell me not to deal with you, I over looked that as you were very nice up until now. Then, you preceeded to insinuate that I was dishonest! You are making an issue out of nothing. Sometimes the bottom of tortoises has some calcium build up and it can be scrubbed off. Regardless, I sent you a perfect and healthy animal with "PERFECT" shell growth!!!!! Now, I get to hear some of my fellow tortoise buddies say "I told you so!" I went out of my way to help you out and this is what I get to deal with. I am very confused as well. Not dealing with this anymore, going back to enjoy the rest of my vacation. This has been a most upseting experience to say the least. Joe...

Ici. What are you talking about? I sold you a perfect tortoise! I have had that animal since it was a hatchling. You told me everything was perfect and the tortoise was safe in your posession and now I get to hear that it has severe shell rot? Not to mention I was on "Vacation" and saw about 10 missed calls from you on my cel!. Part of any wear on the plastron is from the rubbing when a tortoise walks, lays, or mounts another female. I didn't even want to sell him but you practically begged me. This guy is a proven breeder and has a perfect shell. But please don't question my honesty! I try to help you out with your parents and get you out of a jam and this is what I get. You were talking about doing multiple deals and that is why I said- let's get through 1 deal first. Talk with you later, Joe...

Ok, I have a big problem with people picking and choosing e-mails. Post ALL e-mail correspondence. Anybody can look like a bad guy when you only post their responses without the initial e-mails that elicited them.

Second, is there some sort of proof that it actually had shell rot? Joe's response is far from an ad hominen attack, it's actually a potential explanation. Do you have pics or a vet report?

Jeremy, this change of heart is rather abrupt. As far as him making himself lose money, well, he really won't necessarily unless people who have bad dealings with him come forward. Can you explain this change of heart with a little more honesty? Do you now think the infections could have originated at your place or is Joe pressuring you to retract your statements in some way?

I am still on the fence here. Jeremy has proven that the tort had the illnesses that he claimed they had, and because of the time frame and what I know about disease processes from my rehab experience, it would seem that the illnesses originated in the seller's facility, though we cannot know that for sure unless Joe gets a fecal done of his babies since the parents would have no role in infecting them unless they were housed with the parents.

The other thing that makes me lean more toward Jeremy's earlier claims, prior to the change of heart of course, is that while Joe claims to have multitudes of satisfied customers, there are none stepping up to support him, while there are two complains, one as yet unsubstantiated until we get more evidence in the form of emails, pics, vet reports, etc.. Surely some of Joe's satisfied customers have heard about this thread, right? Joe claims a reputation and solid standing in the community, but I don't know him and new people to the tort community might not know of him, so it would be helpful if some members of the tort community would comment on that standing and reputation, or it would be helpful if we had a few forum links that suggest this reputation.

My mother convinced me that I should forgive and forget. I'm not the strongest in my faith, but even after speaking with a lawyer about the situation this is what I wish to do. I have just purchased another animal from another seller and will quarantining this one away from my other one for 60 days and having fecals done on both before even placing them together. I did my part and the word is out there among breeders and buyers to beware of buying from JWI. Now I only wish to put the subject behind me and move forward.

Since Joe I is feeling awfully chatty in his new capacity as ATC's mouthpiece/cheerleader, I thought it appropriate to point out some inconsistencies in his recent statements. Since they're only really applicable to his own dealings, I'm bumping this thread to avoid being maliciously off-topic on THIS THREAD.
The other issue "Bad Guy" thread about me could have been rectified as well. Here is what happened in short. I sold a well started 3 month old Sri Lankan. Animal was placed and housed in an tank where a sick Indian had been kept. In fact, this person killed the Indian Star in shipment.
The buyer - who has given us no reason not to believe him - states several times that the Sri Lankan tortoise never touched the 20 gallon tank. Guess that's just another thing that you chose not to notice. I'd sure love to see something that supports the claim that the Sri Lankan was ever in the 20 gallon tank. Also, OP's Indian Star tortoise died due to the OP's improper packaging. Other than Joe's habitual attempts at deflecting blame, there's been no mention of the Indian tortoise having any kind of illness. It's just more misdirection.
...I did not re-use the 20 gallon tank, I purchased a 40 gallon tank for ceylon and still have him in the 40 gallon and the 20 gallon is still on my back porch...

And? I bought the new 40 gallon aquarium to put ceylon in and that is what I've been using since the day I got him/her. The 20 gallon was for a much smaller tortoise.

30 days later the animal caught parasites, was not taken to a Vet. But, was taken to a Vet. "school" in Louisiana where they could "practice" during class hours and was pumped full of drugs....
It's interesting that he's now trying to claim that 30 days had passed before the parasite load was noticed and treated. It's especially interesting since it deviates from his own words, regarding the timeline.
3rd. Tuesday March 17, 2009- Tortoise arrives safely at Jeremy's workplace in Baton Rouge, La. Jeremy sends me email confirmation that: " All is well and tortoise is doing fine."

4th. Almost 2 weeks have passed and no contact from Jeremy. It is now 3/30/09 and I get an email from Jeremy stating the tortoise is eating well and moving around good but his poop was a little soft. He states that he has just taken it in to the LSU Vet.
The tort was taken to the vet within 2 weeks, according to Joe's own words. I'm sure he'll try to explain it away as an honest mistake, but based on his low credibility rating, I'm inclined to believe that he's intentionally misrepresenting the situation to make himself look better.

Hello Dan. Thank you for bumping the thread. At least we are writing about me in the proper place now. It finally clicked with you, huh. Okay, its been what 4 1/2 years now since this occurred and 100 transactions since. Yes, 2 weeks instead of 30 days. Yes, he took it to the Vet. School had it pumped full of drugs, then called me. Yes, he originally told me he kept in the same tank, then changed it to the 40 gallon. By the way, that tortoise, to my knowledge never did die. Not really sure what you think you proved here. Had not read this thread in almost 5 years, lol... I would like to say great find, but... its really not! Dan, you have to take up another hobby. You have way too much time on your hands.

By the way, I don't think you ever let the people here of Fauna know something. What is your involvement in the Reptile Industry besides being a Fauna heckler?????

Hi Dan. I thought it best to post the entire time line which you neglected to do...

1st. - Friday March 13, 2009- $700 received from Jeremy for Tortoise. (It was Friday so we agreed it would be best if the tortoise was shipped out Monday.)

2nd- Monday March 16, 2009- Tortoise was shipped out with Priority overnight service and email with tracking number is sent to Jeremy Deville.)

School and the tortoise was given some anitbiotics. Same email Jeremy states that he "feels horrible like he is"not giving his animals the proper care." Jeremy had also killed his Indian Star tortoise while resting a heat pack on top of the container while shipping it out to someone in California(emails continue with progress of tortoise into April 09' meanwhile Jeremy is calling other breeders bad mouthing me.)

5th. 7/22/09- Jeremy sends me an email that the tortoise is doing fine and he wants to do business with me again and possibly buy 2 more Sri Lankans from me. (Not sure why he would want to do business with me again- Remember he claimed I treated him very badly???)

6th. 8/4/09- Jeremy contacts Kingsnake.com abuse dept. and has a strike imposed on my account. I am then contacted by Kingsnake. I then send Kingsnake all of my supportive evidence (all the e-mails I am telling you about) and Kingsnake immediately removes the strike against my account. Sorry Jeremy, didn't work. I have always had a perfect record with Kingsnake.

7th. 8/6/09- This ridiculous thread is started by Jeremy Deville and he only tells the good people of the BOI the partial truth.

I tried looking up your name here on Fauna. I could not find anything for Dan Graybeal. Good or Bad...hmmm. Once again, By the way, I don't think you ever let the people here of Fauna know something. What is your involvement in the Reptile Industry besides being a Fauna heckler?????

Keep grasping at non-existent straws. The whole timeline being posted changes nothing. You lied. Plain and simple. There you go again, making claims that you probably won't/can't prove. Let's see this email where he says that he was housing the Sri Lankan in the 20 gallon tank. Let me guess...you've conveniently deleted it, right?

Since you can't find any way to discredit me, my involvement in this "industry" is clearly irrelevant to this situation. All that matters is that I'm an outside observer who has absolutely nothing to gain by my participation. Somehow, I seriously doubt that the same could be said about your recent posts. Anyway, repeatedly asking about my involvement is nothing more than yet another example of your pitifully inept attempts to deflect. Even if I am nothing more than a "fauna heckler," I can live with that. My own status does nothing to change what you are: A liar and a peddler of sick/damaged/misrepresented tortoises.
