    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Karma

You know, to keep those with lots of green from getting oversized heads, the positive karma could be zeroed annually and the red guys could just be left alone.

That would be interesting.

That would just remove all meaning from the karma system completely. "You've done these bad things and you've done these good things but we don't care about the good things." lol.. nice community.
 
Some havent had a chance to earn a good karma tho. I commented on the post about blake shelton and got bad karma from it by speaking my mind. Its not right that someone would do that and not have the balls to explain why. You shouldnt be able to just give bad karma cuz you didnt like what someone said. Now when i go to buy, sell, and trade im gonna have a bad rating and thats all people are going to see. Im a good person that someone has tried to silence me. Just cuz im new to this site doesnt mean im new to reptiles ive been raising animals my whole life ranging from monkeys to cats and dogs and everything in between.
 
Actually, you're required to comment when you give someone negative karma, however, if you are not a contributing member, you cannot see these comments.

You cannot see commets for good karma either, though you are not required to give them.

The method by which you chose to, yes.

Throwing your prior military status around and likening people on a reptile forum to PETA because they are upset about a poorly thought out joke that they posted in a public setting is just not a good idea. If you knew anything about PETA, HSUS and organizations such as that contributing to the over regulation of government on those of us who keep exotics, you would likely have chosen better words.

Also, telling people to just get over it just because you had a good experience with a "celebrity" you met once and do not even "know" is bad form.

Honestly, you just come off as bull headed and ignorant. A rather irritating thing for another Southern bred and raised Cajun to watch.

While I do not in fact have balls, I did leave an explanation. You are totally entitled to an opinion. I did not agree with your opinion and still don't, but I respect your right to say what you think. I gave you a negative karma for what I saw as a hostile, disrespectful way to get your opinion across to others.
 
True we can see them. I think the karma system is good but it still has flaws. Contributing members can leave negative and that make sense. But it always isnt right. I noticed a red mark and someone dinged me with a negative and they said they have seen me on SEVERAL threads taking jabs at people. At the time i received the negative I had only commented on a total of 2 threads, one of which was my own thread.
 
yes Diem, that is it exactly. They can see the comments just not who left it unless the person leaving the karma signs their name in the comment.

Been a while since I was a non-contributer, so I remember now. But you're still required to leave a comment of some sort on negative karma.

I guess you could just put random characters if you want, but I always leave a reason why.

I'll address the above three statements separately.
- You don't have a very good grasp of this version of karma. That is basically what it is all about, except the note on the negative selection reads "Particularly bad post". If a reader thinks a post meets that classification, it can get negative karma. Most of us are open minded enough to not hit somebody simply because they have a different opinion...it is, as Lucille indicated, a matter of how that opinion is expressed.
- This is an incorrect assumption. You don't have a bad "rating", you have negative feedback for some of your posts. They aren't close to the same thing, and one that is likely to consider karma in a business decision will generally look at the posts for which that karma is received (so the red box isn't all that is seen).
- You may, or may not, be a good person...but your statement of it doesn't make it so. I'm confident in saying that Lucille hasn't deemed you a bad person simply because she didn't like how you said something. You could say something horrible to/about her, and she would be open minded enough to judge your posts on their merits. Stop being melodramatic - tried to silence you? Really? because you were given feedback by members that didn't care for something you said? Was your ability to post restricted? Are your words now censored by the moderation team? This site is not about silencing people...to the contrary, it gives people a voice they wouldn't have on most other sites. Of course, with the freedom to say things comes the responsibility of thinking about what one says (and how one says it).

Was there an increase to how much karma you can give a day? I just realized I left some earlier around 5pm twice and then it let me again a few minutes ago.
 
Maybe, I don't remember. I play around with admin options whenever I think changes need to be made. Not all of them need to be broadcast to everyone.
 
I personally like the Karma system. It is subjective but can be used as a learning tool if one can take a look at yourself after getting bad marks. It should encourage folks to think a bit before posting.

While it may not be perfect, I think it is excellent for holding people accountable so to speak for their words. There are other forums that I visit in which people abuse the anonymity of the internet and do not post anything to contribute but use it as a method of entertainment to belittle others or just be plain rude. This system helps prevent that.
