    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Committing a crime ? animal abuse, that's crime. Collecting animals as a hobby, feeding and caring for them, nursing my tegu back to health, i don't think so. Just because i keep illegal animals, now I'm the bad guy ? Something like tegu's and some monitor species to be illegal here is just not necessary. I get what you guys are trying to explain.

So is obtaining and owning a reptile that has been deemed as illegal in the jurisdiction in which you reside. Kudos to you.
 
Wouldn't surprise me at all if this guy gets a visit from someone dealing with your illegal practices. It's people like this that make the hobby more difficult especially admitting to this on a Public Forum which is usually monitored by certain Officials.

As for the Pixie frogs.. there are two different subspecies... There is the True Giant Pixie and the Dwarf Pixie... the difference is in their size! The True Giants get HUGE!

Yes Brandon.. You are comitting a Crime and it is likely that your animals will get confiscated and you will be fined and depending on how many you really have you could get Jail Time so I would be cleaning up my act fairly quickly!

The situation your in does seem to be a "lesson learned" on your part about properly inspecting animals that you get to see in person before you buy, and following your gut instinct is ALWAYS the way to go....you cant expect to be surprised when a sick looking animal doesn't eat for you....you where worried about the animal when you first looked at it....you should have walked away right then and there

but whats done is done...are you expecting any compensation? have you informed the seller of this thread??

if you expect nothing as compensation, and expect no resolution to your concerns from the seller, and just wanted to let people know about your situation...next time might I suggest posting an info thread instead of a bad guy...just in case

if you do expect any resolution to this issue...I would suggest proper photos of the animal in question in the condition you got her in....if you did not get pics of her after she came into your keeping, and have no proof of the things you claim....

well...hope she recovers fully for you and you have learned to pay closer attention to your gut

This entire board is devoted to those who love reptiles. Some make all or a significant part of their living selling reptiles as well. As a hobby, we are attempting to heighten and improve public awareness of reptiles, if we do not, politicians may simply continue to pass legislation making reptile possession illegal.

So here you come,new to the board, and make a spectacle of yourself and just plop right in the middle of the thread that yes, you know that the very critters you are buying, selling, and complaining about, are not legal for you to own in the first place.

You haven't been here but a couple days and already you are taking the reptile hobby down.:bandhead0

I agree. Take plenty of pics. Of you holding the reptile. The reptile in your house. Take a picture of you holding the reptile outside of your house. Heck even a nice sign saying "I'm keeping illegal reptiles inside my house" would be fantastic. haha


No offense to you Willow. Just thought I would give some friendly advice to make up for the insults. :)

Fred kick has been notified many times about numerous posts but still is yet to reply, let alone, I don't even know if he is a member to this site. He has so much dirt against him he does not stand a chance. Not saying he is a (bad guy), he just has a bad past with animal care. But the past is the past people change maybe for the better maybe for worse, but who really knows???

:iagree: For all of the "grammer police", STOP being DORKS :eek: !! The issue is/was the kicks' practices and if anyone would like to know, I'd suggest the SEARCH button.

The op is doing something wrong/illegal, by all means call it, BUT don't sidetrack so far as to forget the topic of thread, ESPECIALLY about grammer
 
I don't know anything about the Kick Brothers...but I know I won't be doing any business with Mr. Perez. Anyone willing to keep these animals illegally and risk hurting the reptile community as a whole is a 'bad guy' in my books.
 
Is it too far off topic to ask why monitors and tegus are illegal in NY? Are they illegal in a lot of states or just NY?

I'm in Cali and it's illegal for us to own ferrets, but I've known a lot of people that have had them, and I guess I never thought about it being wrong as it's an old and unfair law...

What, in my opinion, makes it "wrong", and even "animal abuse"? Any illegal animal seized, unless there is an available and appropriately licensed facility to take it in, WILL BE DESTROYED by the state. Whether or not the laws themselves are 'right' or 'wrong' is another thing entirely. But being willing to put an animal's life at risk by having one you KNOW will be destroyed if you are caught with it, to me, is pretty dang awful and irresponsible.

I will NEVER deal with someone who is willing to doom an animal just so they can have something "cool". I have no opinion whatsoever about the Kick brothers, but I know I'd never, EVER, deal with the OP.
 
I'm from N.Y. originally and I can tell you that there is just as many people keeping venomous snakes there than any of the states where its legal.It's against the law,but your never going to be able to stop people from owning what they want.I'm talking about cobra's,Russel's vipers and so on.I think it's a little bit too much to bust chop's over a couple of lizards.And nobody is going to do anything about the casual herper.They look for the importers of illegal wildlife.I'm glad I'm not there now.I did not know they made all that non-venomous stuff illegal.As for the Kick Bro's I never dealt with them,but I heard nothing but bad stories over the last 10 years or so.
 
I know here in TN you can't keep turtles and tortoises and I've heard some horror stories about the TWRA seizing turtles and tossing them into a freezer. These weren't big importers either. One in particular was a shop that supposedly had a Mata mata and a Sulcata tortoise that were strictly pets in the store and for show. TWRA came in and ordered the poor things to be destroyed.

If the OP is willing to illegally keep and admit to keeping tegus and monitors, who's to say he doesn't have anything else he's not telling us about? Or that he doesn't expand his illegal collection? I know the laws can be ridiculous (I want a d*** tortoise here....) but as responsible keepers you should abide by them. If caught, the animals could be destroyed, and there would be even more bad rep for the reptile community and we certainly do not need anymore of that.
