    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Not that somebody thinks i made a bad post. That doesn't bother me. That i was getting off topic and got punished for it, THAT bothers me.

As for negative karma being easily erased...
There seem to be more people on here who are willing to destroy anothers credibility than there are people who will help build it up.

I think you are wrong. Hang out in the chatroom sometime, there is a close knit group and they support each other's efforts.
There are people in the forums that will help if you only ask. There are people who will gift you with positive karma if you say something worthwhile. Maybe take responsibility and change and become a positive force and see if things change for you. I think they will.

You will get both positive and negative karma on this site. Over time the positive will usually outweigh the negative, as long as your posts are constructive and have some substance to them. People are willing to give out positive karma for many things (helpful hints, BOI detective work, funny posts that uplift their day, etc.). Negative karma usually requires that your post in same way offended them or was completely inappropriate.

So to summarize:

Make good posts that are on topic and helpful and you will get good karma eventually. BUT even if you DON'T, it's just little green boxes under your name..... it will still be ok without them.:D

And yet, what exactly are YOU doing right now? Think about it, please.

Seems that a lot of people complain about this place being the wild wild west and want us to clean it up. UNTIL they happen to find themselves one of the ones violating the rules needed to accomplish that task, and in the process making things worse rather than better. But of course, that is a different kettle of fish, isn't it? :rolleyes:

Did you or did you not make an off topic post in that BOI thread? If you did, then what is there to whine about? You got off lightly, in my opinion, as that should have earned you an infraction.

We ARE trying to make this place better. If you want to try to buck this effort, then yes, I suppose you may very well get reasons to whine about the repercussions. So I would suggest that you make an effort to try to help US to make this place better, rather than your apparent efforts to try to justify your own actions to try to show us just how wrong we are in the methods used to try to reach this goal. That effort is simple. Simply follow the rules, or at least use some common sense heavily laced with common courtesy.

As far as I can recall, whining about the rules has never really been a very effective method for anyone to get their way around here. And the prognosis for that to change is very, very dim.

How were you punished? By a little red dot meaning somebody thought you made a bad post? I probably would have given you negative karma for that even if I wasn't a moderator, and it would have resulted in the same loss of intangible points. It doesn't impact your ability to use the site in any way, nor does it count against "your record" the way an infraction would have.
At the worst, it could have resulted in a tiny bruise to your ego...but you said you didn't care that somebody thought you made a bad post, so there should be no damage there.

Karma is peer feedback about your posts. Nothing more, nothing less. If you think getting negative karma is a punishment, you are too thin skinned.
Did you play the kind of baseball where you couldn't strike out, and go to the birthday parties where all the kids got presents?
 
I've always disliked the karma system. You have 3 camps.

Agreed! Too many people take it as some verifiable measure of their worth. It simply means people agree or disagree with your posts. Means nothing else at all.

What is this "Karma" thing anyways , it just gives argumentative people the chance to try to egg someone on. I had posted my first BOI tonight and am thankful it is closed it is plain annoying to have people confront you just to have their voice heard. I see it may have at one point or another served a useful purpose but needs to be reformatted big time. LOL I was being "attacked" because I didn't want to have a 25 page thread like the others on the topic and wanted to address a serious issue of animal abuse. The person that I was trying to warn everyone about is probably cracking up laughing and you will have 10 more posts about her next week after she sells sick animals at the Hamburg show.
 
People were getting annoyed that I had brought up a complaint about the same person? It was on a different subject matter with new information , and someone still bought an animal from her with the other BOI'S posted . I do appreciate you guys answering my request to close the thread and hope that others can learn from this situation and be able to prevent these instances from happening.
 
Funny, you talk about other people just wanting their voice to be heard, yet that's exactly why you're posting this nonsense here. Other members have just as much right as you do, to post. I didn't read your threads, so I have no clue what you're talking about, but mods don't answer "requests" to lock threads on the BOI. There are strict rules set in place there. Not even the mods will break those rules. If your thread was locked, it was locked for a reason other than your request, I can assure you.

They didn't lock it per your request...they locked it for THIS reason:

You are not special and they don't lock threads per request in the BOI. :rolleyes:

People were not commenting just to hear their "voices heard". They commented on that thread because you said that you had proof, and when asked for it, you didn't provide it. Besides that you were NOT being attacked when you said you didn't want a 25 page thread, you were being QUESTIONED because the information you were providing was irrelevant without proof. Plus there were already other threads started about the same person, and the Mods and Admin would rather you use existing threads about a person, rather than starting a new one.

(Mods/Admin please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the impression I have gotten about the BOI. :) )

Anyway, like I said, you are not SPECIAL, and the Mods/Admin don't do what you ask, ESPECIALLY in the BOI.
