• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I hate to do this, but if recording a bad experience will prevent someone else’s headache, then so be it. That being said, "Bad Guy" seems to be a bit of a harsh title. My intentions by posting this are strictly to elucidate my negative experience with Kingsnake.com, Jeff Barringer, and associated individuals.

On 9/11/13, I renewed a standard classified account with Kingsnake (kingsnake.com) for 90 days at the price of $35.00. I posted a few listings, but decided to upgrade to an enhanced account on 9/18/13 for an additional fee of $38.00. I never got an email confirmation or receipt for the second transaction, but didn’t think much of it. I renewed some of my expired ads, which were great with the enhanced version! On 9/24/13, I got a notification that my ads had been deleted for a violation of the TOS – I had initially listed under my business name “Black Panther Zoological Supply” (BPZ) although I hadn’t filed my DBA paperwork with kingsnake.com. I asked if they’d be willing to issue a refund for the enhanced portion, to which they said no, though explicitly stated that I could continue posting under my individual name. Completely understandable and the mistake was absolutely my fault, point taken. I had preparatory work for an expo until 10/6/13, and did not get around to relisting anything. On the evening of 10/6/13 I attempted to login to my account to post some classifieds under my full name this time and not under BPZ, however could not login to my account. Thinking that the password could be wrong, I attempted to have it reset and my information sent to me, however the email address I had signed up with wasn’t pulling up any record of me having an account. I tried every email address I had, with no avail, despite being 100% certain that I had used the email to which my initial electronic receipt had been sent.

I decided to contact kingsnake.com, all my email correspondence with them is detailed below. It speaks for itself, although I would like to point out the variety in the individual replying from kingsnake – at first it’s one person, and then someone else with a different email handle. Anything blacked out is purely for privacy purposes, and includes personal phone numbers or physical addresses.

I never heard back from any party at kingsnake.com, and I filed a claim with PayPal for the second transaction of $38.00 on 10/11/13. They have closed it in my favor as of 10/22/13, for failing to hear anything back from Onlinehobbyist.com, Inc. within the statutory 10 days. I also opened a dispute the first claim with my bank yesterday (10/21/13). I will also be filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Needless to say, I am quite disappointed in their customer satisfaction. I hope that they can improve their customer service at least a little bit, to either provide a notification of account termination, which seems to be what happened, or work with a patron to remediate the issue at hand. Obviously at the moment they cannot or are not willing to do either. My business, for one, will happily go elsewhere.

The PDF's don't make much sense (or at least I could not follow) and most people will not open them to read them. They seem to be jumbles with other emails?
Is it possible to post screenshots instead? Something that verify's your complaint?
Thanks :)

I read your PDF's (they weren't hard to follow at all despite Kimberly's efforts) and from what I gather you used the same email for two different accounts, is that correct? So basically you used to post under your name, then you wanted to use your BPZ name, but then you were forced to revert back to your name. Were these two separate accounts on the website or simply a function of you changing the title/name of the account once logged in?

Either way, I'm not really seeing any reason for them to just 'delete' your email address. That stuff is tied up in a database as 99% of website registrations are done. An actual person rarely if ever encounters those accounts/passwords and edits them, it's merely used to store stuff. So, if we take that into consideration, one of two things happened. Either you're forgetting the password (possible, but having a new one sent to you should remedy this) to the account or they inadvertently nulled the account when they did the mediation for 'violating the terms of service' on your ads.

I'm assuming you've explored every contact option listed here: http://www.kingsnake.com/contact/index.php

Just for covering-all-bases' sake, have you tried a different browser? Firefox/chrome? Search your email inox for any emails that were sent to it under that account in the past? If the account isn't showing up for them on their end that means it's deleted in the database. I don't see a reason anyone would intentionally do that. They obviously want your continued business.

I'm not sure what you hope to accomplish by posting this here. In the past these types of threads with Kingsnake have just lead to people never being able to use the site afterward.

I would imagine that the OP is hoping to "accomplish" the same goal as anyone else who submits a post here. I thought that was the reason this forum exists. Quite frankly, I would take my business elsewhere as well. That is some seriously laim customer service.

Kingsnake is not a reptile breeder/dealer. There is no good substitute. It gets more hits than any other classified site. This won't hurt Jeff B. It will just get the OP banned. Running his site like a dictator is nothing new to anyone, unless you haven't dealt with KS at all or are new.

It doesn't matter if it hurts him or not. The OP has the right to inform people of their experience and let people choose whether they want to deal with Kingsnake or not....

Didn't say they didn't have that right. I'm just saying that in my 11 years of seeing threads like this just about every year, all that has ever been accomplished is people burning their bridges at KS. It's fine if you don't care about that. The point is people will still use KS because for classifieds there is no equivalent.

So you post under a Business name and you are not a business. Therefore breaking TOS.
They tell you that you can post as an individual.
You request a refund because they would not allow you to break TOS.
You did not get refund. So you FRAUDULENTLY file a chargeback saying that your card was used without your permission.
Now you are here to complain because you broke TOS and basically broke a CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT and then you FRAUDULENTLY filed a chargeback.

Scanning a copy of your business license is just too easy if you actually had one.

Did I get everything correct or did I miss something or get something wrong?

Actually if you read his opening statement, he stated he had a business...

The thing is according to Kingsnake TOS you have to submit your credentials and be approved before you can post as a business. It was done because a few years back everyone was posting there as a business, licensed or not. I think they figured it mislead some people into thinking they were dealing with a brick and mortar business instead of someone selling a few snakes out of their basement.

My only problem with KS and their TOS is that they are unevenly enforced. If you just pay for a subscription to the classifieds there's little wiggle room in the TOS. If you pay to have your site listed, buy banner ads, and/or pay to sponsor forums there's much more. Again, nothing new. If you want to post ads on the site with the most traffic you just look the other way.

Actually stating you have a business does not mean you really have one.

He has a business he just obviously didn't do the extra steps
If you did not do the extra steps like file paperwork with your city, county or state then you really do not have a business, you have a hobby.

Here is a quote from their e-mail

Thank you for the email. We, here at Black Panther Zoological, are sorry for the miscommunication. We are in the process of filing a DBA for the state of Maine and would really like to advertise with your site once we are fully registered. If it is at all possible to refund us the money that we have already paid so that we can use it to advertise with your site again in the near future, it would be greatly appreciated.

From what OP says here, he only filed the chargeback after his personal account was apparently blocked or deleted, as well as being unable to post under his business account, thereby eliminating BOTH his posting options despite being a paying member.
