In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have never wanted to post one of these, but after years in the hobby I guess we would inevitably run into the situation. :(

I wouldn't recommend anyone work with Kyle Matuszak of KMDragons due to his shipping practices and his reluctance to work with a customer after receiving an improperly shipped animal in poor health.

Last week Wednesday I found an ad posted by Kyle (KMDragons) selling a supposed 2 year old CB proven female Lygodactylus williamsi. I jumped on the opportunity. I quickly did some searching on him and didn't find anything negative, so I figured everything would be okay.

The transaction appeared to go just fine. Communication was good and I sent payment on to him.

Later that day he sent another message saying that he was shipping...even after I told him that our weather was not good in WI. I'll admit that I made the mistake of not being more adamant and trying to talk him out of shipping, but I was quite startled and upset that he was attempting shipping when there was going to be a storm that night. He never responded to my last message.

The next day my wife was off work due to spring break, so she could get to the hub and get the package. I was at work until noon. I received an automatic text notification from FedEx that the package was at the hub. The text came at 10:02. The real tracking online said that it was ready for pickup at 9:45, so there was just a bit of a lag in the update. I texted Krystal as soon as I saw the text, which was at 10:06. She was there at the hub and had signed for the package by 10:27. By 10:28 she was already calling me to tell me that the gecko was alive, but was adhered to the side of the deli cup. I had her get the package home and leave it alone until I could get off work and assess it myself. By about 12:15 I was home and checking it, and it was still stuck to the side of the cup. It stressed out at that point and ripped itself off without any assistance from me.

The seller is saying that we neglected the package...I'm unsure how 45 minutes in the safety of our hub is considered neglect. :shrug01:

The packaging was not up to reptile shipping standards...Hot Hands handwarmers for heat packs and no styrofoam insulation. It was also shipped at a poor time, when the weather was very questionable. Holes were punched in all 4 sides of the box and were probably allowing a lot of cold air into the box with only 3 sheets of newspaper used as padding and insulation. All the weather reports for our zipcode were showing a strong snowstorm that night, and Kyle didn't even ask us or set up a day to ship...he just decided to send it out that day.

The gecko was in pretty rough shape from the trip and looked very small, malnourished, and dehydrated. (In my eyes, it doesn't look 2 years old, CB, or proven by any means) I took some photos quickly of everything and messaged the seller right away to let him know what was going on, and that I wanted at least a partial refund due to the condition of the gecko.

The rest of the interaction can be seen in my attachments, screenshots, etc.

The gecko is still currently alive, but not doing well. If I can somehow keep it alive, it probably won't be the quality breeder I was hoping for. I'm expecting it to pass away...but unfortunately I'm not expecting a refund from Kyle after how he has conducted himself, hence why I'm not hesitating to post this BOI thread now.

I have contacted ShipYourReptiles and they contacted Kyle as well. I have also filed a dispute through Paypal, and whether or not I receive any funds back is irrelevant since it is now about the principle of this whole situation that is more important.

If you have any questions or I missed something, please comment and let me know. I have as much documentation, photos, etc. as I could compile in order to make this post.

Thanks

3/26/2016 08:07 PDT - PayPal: Seller escalated this dispute to a Claim.
3/26/2016 08:07 PDT - Seller: Item was as disturbed. Was sent with insulation and heat packs. Buyer picked up late at hub. Buyer wanted said item to be held at hub for pickup. Weather or cold did not affect package arrival time or live animal. Buyer did not contact in 2 hour period. Gecko is till alive and was perfectly healthy when sent (i have pics to prove that if needed). Item is nonrefundable neither is $45 shipping cost/fee
3/26/2016 07:58 PDT - Seller: Sir as i told you before gecko and $45 shipping is nonrefundable. Gecko was shipped in perfect health and shipped with insulation and heat packs. You neglected the package and PICK UP LATE. Also did not contact us in the 2 hour time window. Also weather was checked and item made it on time to hub witch seller asked me to hold at hub so the item was held at hub for pickup (i told you after payment was sent it wold be shipped there are no holds). I have pictures that i sent to you and showing it was in perfect health. You claim gecko was tuck to the side but then say gecko was running around in deli cup. (mark on side of cup just looks like poop on the side). This buyer will say and do anything to get a refund. Item was as posted. Gecko was/is alive at pickup and still is. Thank you sir have a great day.

This is so upsetting!
Ship Your Reptiles has guidelines posted, expansive and detailed guidelines, that this guy has chosen to ignore.

Quotes from Ship Your Reptiles shipping guidelines…
“To ship live reptiles, do not use the 12- or 24-hour packs available at your local BigBox store or ski shop. Those packs are hand warmers, not shipping tools. The 12-24 hour packs don’t provide the necessary heat nor duration for a successful live shipment. 12 and 24 hour hand warmers also peak at a much higher temperature than shipping heat packs (180F), endangering the life of your live shipment. Hand warmers do NOT meet the SYR Shipping Standards.”

That being said…
“Note: Do not overuse heat packs! Use only one heat pack per box unless you are using our largest box, the 30"x16"x10", where two heat packs can be used if needed. Two heat packs in a box 16x16x8 or smaller will cause the box to get too hot and can kill the animal.”

http://shipyourreptiles.com/en/get-help/get-help-shipping-standards#question-23

So, not only did he use one hand warmer, which was potentially lethal by itself, BUT he used two hand warmers – an amount that should never be used in such a small shipping container, even with heat packs intended for the shipment of live animals!
I could also quote their guidelines on the necessity of using foam insulation but I think you get it.
I cannot understand how he thinks ANY of what he did was okay or how, in his mind, he believes he is not at fault – because he is.
My point is, this is ENTIRELY on him as a seller and not on you as a buyer. I am so sorry to see that both of you are going through this, you have always been so kind and helpful to me, but I do want to thank you for sharing this so that others can steer clear of him.

He is lucky the gecko did t cook with two hand warmers.

That is completely I excusable & I would never do business with someone who cares so little for the animals welfare that he ships when it is safe to do so & improperly ships the animal with hand warmers. [emoji35]

Then to blame it on you, that is low.

*didn't

The heat packs I use go to 135F and last 24 HOUSE they are also rapped in packing tape so theu don't spike. Packs where not touching or close to deli cup and there was way more newspaper then pic is showing. SALZY IS MANIPULATIVE AND SCAMMER. HE ALSO THEATENED ME TO GIVE HIM $75 OR HE WAS GOING TO POST THIS LOL

That information is false.

Absolutely atrocious. I hope SYR keeps tabs on him. I don't understand how someone can go so wrong with packaging their animals when there is so much literature on the matter.

I hope you're able to get your money back and that this can serve as a lesson to the seller...even if he's too stubborn to see it as such right now...

Post a screenshot of the specifications from the manufacturer showing HotHands last 24 hours when you get a minute, please.

Even easier, show a clear photo of the containment and preservation packaging (the labeled plastic that prevents oxygen from activating the pack prior to use) for the warmer you used. Front and back. It should have the information listed. By should have, I mean it does, as I am staring at several of their products in my left hand as I type this out with my right hand.

--------------------------------------

Your packaging was woefully deficient in several aspects by the standards used to ship live animals safely. This is not a matter of nuance.

I will post info tomorrow. SYR did contact me and told me how to ship so I'm not sending this way anymore. Gecko was in perfect shape and I hatched he 2 years ago. I also have pics to prove she was amazing. Can msg me for pics at [email protected]

This information is false. Even if it wasn't, 2 packs at 135 the box would have reached 270 in very little time.

Your shipping was one of the worst I've ever seen.

SYR is a proponent of shipping reptiles properly. When shipped properly, geckos don't stick to plastic because there are no temperature extremes....which is probably why they've never encountered this problem...

Not disputing the incredibly incorrect usage, but I want to mention that is not how the temperature would go.

Ok, but the box wouldn't have been just 135 …

Maybe. Depends on kinetics of the reaction and the available reactant levels.

Even if we do not take the path of thought where there might have been a change in the apex temperature, we can view it in a different way that I would prefer to frame the problem in. Instead of being 135 "over there" on that side of the box, it is 135 "over here" and "over there" in the box. In a small box, where can the gecko flee to? Nowhere. It was effectively tortured with heat during at least one portion of transit. I am highly impressed that it survived the trip at all. I mean that. I am really, really hoping it pulls through with how much it had to have suffered. Thermal stresses can have really nasty cascades, though, biochemically, so the buyer should brace himself.

It makes me ill to think of how this poor little gecko suffered. Seller's initial reply to this thread was less than professional and seemed flippant and argumentative. I really hope the gecko is ok and I REALLY hope the seller isn't lying about her being CB. This is a critically endangered species in the wild and so lying about that would be a whole other level of badness.
