In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

While I (duh) realize that men and women are in fact, different; I think that equal opportunity is a good idea. Which means, also, equal responsibility, so those of the female persuasion cannot wimp out giving the excuse that the 'lawnmower doesn't fit their hands'.
However, I think that men sometimes have an advantage in that guys talk to other guys about certain subjects (other than sex) which they may not bring up in normal conversation with women.
Lawn equipment, for instance. For the longest time, I have been using a Black and Decker rechargeable electric string trimmer. The other day, at a garage sale, I picked up a John Deere gas trimmer; took it home, cleaned it up, put fresh gas/oil in and it is SMOKIN! No one ever told me that the rechargeable is a pussy-wimp underpowered piece of crud compared to a good gas trimmer.
I am not complaining, really; after all, learning is a lifelong process; but, if you have daughters, wives or girlfriends, it might be good to share some of this info. Now I know there are some guys who take great pleasure in keeping a great looking yard, or building stuff with power tools, and etc. and that is terrific; I am not saying we need to all use every bit of knowledge we have, and if two people like dividing up their responsibilities a certain way and they are both happy, fine; but I think knowledge is power, and if I had known about gas trimmers earlier, I could have done my yardwork faster, easier, and better.

What do y'all think about
1) Division of labor and
2) Learning stuff you might not use?

Oh no not power tools

I am a certified addict to power tools. I have stuff I will never use that I bought just because it was a power tool. And it doesn't help that the company I work for carries both Dewalt and Milwaukee as brands of power tools we offer to our account holders. Plus some of the contractors I deal with will buy an item and use it once and after a year or so sell it. That and damn ebay..

I just got my first DeWalt power tool, a jigsaw, and it is SO much better than the crappy cheap stuff I started off with.

Just as a general rule of thumb, there are a few obvious exceptions...

Anything that takes gasoline will be more powerful than something electric.

Anything electric that plugs into a wall outlet will be more powerful than things using rechargeable nickle cadium type batteries.

The appropriate tool for any given job, despite my love for loud noises and lots of sawdust, isn't always the most powerful. Hand tools have their place.

Norm from the New Yankee Workshop is coated in liverspots beyond a level that's healthy even for the Irish and causes me to throw things at my television. Including a hammer once.

All those great qualities AND you have the most beautiful hair I have ever seen.....

haha, apparently you did not look at the right picture, my hair is everywhere!!! But thanks anyway :)
I decided I wasnt going to cut my hair ever again and I havent, now it a little lower than the small of my back, the part of my youth I am keeping!!

She cuts her own firewood!!!

At least you don't have to deal with the historical commission and the neighborhood nazis when you want to cut down a tree. ;)

Well you have it lucky. Bad part of living where I do is the historical commission and the nazi's who run the neighborhood ways and means comission. Being a historical neighborhood you can't do crap without asking both of these idiot bodies of useless humans if you can do something. Needless to say they just love me. ;) Right now I have 4 different colors on my house as test colors to see which one I want the house painted. I did this without approval and they are pitching a fit saying the colors are not "original approved colors". Well the only pictures i have seen of my house after it was built in the late 30's were black and white, so what do they know. :D

well unfortunately, I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers, the way the chores got divided definitely reinforced gender roles. For example, I cleaned the bathroom while one of the boys cleaned up the yard. We did ALL rotate dish washing duty, tho - and no, I've never lived in a house with a dishwashing appliance. *grumbles*

However, I am all about learning how to change my oil, tune up my jeep, and doing some metalsmithing. Anyone wanna take me out and get me a nice torch and sand paper, LOL.

I would be game for even division of chores if a guy ever convinced me to move in , or god forbid tried to give me a ring. I also LIKE doing laundry and making the bed tho so I call those chores right now.

I'm a Jack of all Trades kind of woman so i've done just about everything. I love power tools but agree that sometimes the best tool is a hand tool, i love working with my hands. Now about dividing up the chores.........i don't think thats really for me. I like being informed enough to remain independent cause in my past i haven't really been able to rely on anyone. Hopefully in the future i'll meet a man who will wish to share his life equally with me but until then i'm happy to take care of myself.

I am glad to have my father around however. I've had problems occur that would have just floored me if i hadn't had someone to help me out. An electrical problem had me stumped and by working with him to fix it i learned alot. Not so much so that i'd consider doing my own wiring but enough to be able to determine the problem.

I can't wait to have some extra time to put my scroll saw to use. Its been gathering dust for a while now. :)

Red :)

What, Seamus??

Well... he is. All the PBS carpenter types are borderline idiots.

New Yankee Workshop has never built anything attractive or worthwhile... just because the point is that he doesn't use power tools doesn't mean everything needs to be ugly and useless.

This Old House has caused WGBH to be taken to court dozens of times because the nitwits who perform the work blatantly ignore the desires of the homeowner and sometimes cause more damage than they solve. Homeowners also do have to pay for some of the work that's being done and all of the materials, the only thing to be gained by inviting that crew of fools over to "work" is a massive budgeting problem and holes in your roof that appeared after they knocked out internal walls which were hiding support beams.
